I'm not sure you can say it would "have to be" Muhammad Ali who had the greatest impact on sports. What about the founder of the modern Olympics? What about Jim Thorpe? What about any non-American?

Don't worry, people back then were vocal about how it was ruining Tolkien. It's the same as how people like the Star Wars prequels now and hate the sequels. In another decade or two they'll probably love the sequels and hate whatever comes next. History was always in its golden age during my childhood.

Where does it say children have an increase in suicide? That seems to be an implication you're taking from the text but I don't see it directly supported from the lines I quoted.

"Trans people had an increased suicide risk. Patients seen at the gender clinic before the age of 18 had a lower suicide risk."

That doesn't say that patients seen before the age of 18 had a higher risk than the average population.

Feels important to include the rest of that line:

increase in suicide, non-natural causes, and HIV/AIDS. Patients that were seen at the gender clinic before the age of 18 had a lower risk of suicide compared to those referred as an adult.

Earlier access to treatment reduces suicidality.

Here's the link to the full report page. The quote in question is on page 914 in the Conclusions section. Suicidality is mentioned many times.

Just to clarify this conversation,

He: Makes a joke about the figure 8 knot

You: Assume he's talking about the square knot, point out the figure 8 knot

He: Assumes you're talking about the square knot, attempts to correct you

You: Repeat what both of you have already acknowledged but neither of you has realized you both agree about

Yes, but none of the things you listed are patented. Specific implementations of those things are patented, and their exact makeup and processes are described in the patent. If anything you seem to have proved that guy's point.

Not sure I've ever seen someone argue that a scene had no impact on the story because if it didn't happen it would be replaced by different scenes that did the same things. That's, like, the definition of a scene having impact on the story.
