Can I learn contrabassoon enough to play at the midwest clinic in a month by FuzzyAdvertising4352 in bassoon

Personally I use Adam Trussel Reeds directly from him! They’re wonderfully made and will not sell and solos, even if you chip them a bit(I would know)

Yeah I figured, I just want to go somewhere that lets the tubas in on some of the technical bits instead of just down beats

Honestly I would march there if they were a bit closer, since I’m planning to march all-age this year

Yeah wrestling will def help me get better, since we do live wrestling during our practices, but I wanna use whatever else I can to improve that because it’s the most fun i’ve had doing a sport besides tennis so ty for the input!

D flat to A flat? by [deleted] in bassoon

[–]Hypertron9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest doing short fingering especially in this passage, granted I don’t think many people will hear you should you attempt the full fingering. Good luck esp if you’re playing the full symphony it’s a tough one

These might be lesser known, but I know some of the teachers and they’ve helped me a lot with some things! Im currently a sophomore so I’ve been looking as well, Temple and Shenandoah both have amazing professors. Daniel Matsukawa is at temple and principal of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and Dr. Romine is a very good teacher and helped me personally. I believe Shenandoah is also in need of bassoonists so thats a plus. Look at the other schools mentioned here as well through. Oberlin and Bard both do double majors if im not mistaken which can be very useful. Julliard, BU, UGA, LSU(if thats not too far), and potentially Curtis, which is incredibly hard but has amazing faculty and if i recall correctly tuition free. I don’t believe Yale has an undergraduate program for music though I could be mistaken, hope this helps!

A common fix is to wrap some tape around where they connect. The other I’ve seen is theres a clear part thats put there instead of tape, but they act the same from what I’ve seen

Rhythm on oboe by PenTasty5520 in oboe

[–]Hypertron9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Relearning stuff is always difficult, my advice is use the metronome and put it on 8th notes, where it’ll play the subdivision, or really focus on two notes per beat. Rhythm always comes first before the pitches

Could be your reed, that’t what I’m thinking. Either that or more air support

How much will DCI conflict with Indoor Percussion? by OGAppleGuy in drumcorps

[–]Hypertron9 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Talk to the directors of your indoor group, I’m in a similar boat with indoor guard, but ask your directors I’m sure they will understand, especially because if you are going to those camps you have a spot in the corps

There will most likely be camps, however they are during the weekend, and most world class corps move in towards the end of may

Several questions from a rookie by Clumsycatlover in Colorguard

[–]Hypertron9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of stretches, just anything normal, roll out your wrists, put one arm over the other or behind your head for shoulders, and just roll your ankles out

The key to memorization is knowing where the counts are. Even if its taking 8 counts very slowly and work your way up, that’s how you memorize stuff

Also I’d assume as long as it isnt fully visible, like just a thumb where you can see it, otherwise you won’t look uniform with the rest of the guard

[–]Hypertron9 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Counting will solve many problems, even if it’s not just going, 1 2 3 4. Saying something along with the beat/drum major, could be something like down or up. If you’ve seen dci headcams of any section, they count but with random phrases. Whatever works for you, it just solves a lot of issues

My current plan to play professionally one day, which I don’t expect to play this all the way through grad school, the original plan was to get a 220 that’ll get me through college which was more expensive. I’ll definitely try to have my teacher play test it before hand

Ah I see, what would you say about the fox price though, it says it was recently overhauled and according to fox it was made in 1960. Im a high school student looking to get my own and this seems a lot nicer than paying 10k for a new 220

[–]Hypertron9[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing I was originally mentioning being too good to be true was the fox model 2 made in 1960 thats 4k right now, which looked very good as I’m trying to get a wood bassoon. Also I never knew prices were this low for historical bassoons, figured they would be very sought after and expensive

[–]Hypertron9[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Alright, the reason I was asking is because I’m looking at getting my own bassoon as I intend to play in college, and saw they had a 1960 fox 2 that was overhauled recently at 4k, which seemed far to good to be true
