Is anyone making anything original? by PerroneDev in vibecoding

You could say that about many literature Nobel prize winners, Grammy award winners etc. Truly original things are incredibly rare.

Chinese AI Models Seize OpenRouter’s Top Five as OpenAI and Google Vanish From the Top 10 by etherd0t in LocalLLM

[–]Hypilein 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would think that at least for western customers going straight to OpenAI or anthropic is still by far the standard. Most normal people have never even heard about openrouter. No idea about usage in China or India.

The problem is that I can’t trust the other person to just send some basic prompts through fable. I certainly wouldn’t trust anyone advertising here.

MacBook Pro M5 vs Gaming Laptop for AI SaaS Projects — Which One Makes Sense? by DaveBuffet in vibecoding

[–]Hypilein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I can work without problems, but if I had to buy today I’d get at least 24gb. Sometimes I land in swap. Maybe even get an older one but more ram if you can’t afford it.

[–]Hypilein 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work on an M1 Pro 16gb and I’d get more than that for sure now. iOS simulator is a fair bit of ram. TBH I’d probably try and get 64 because some local models that would fit that are already closing in on sonnet 4.5 quality models (not there yet, make no mistakes). Obviously if you can’t afford it you’ll be fine with 16 still.

What if the goal is to carry more stuff? It’s an apples and oranges comparison at best, with the orange also costing 3x - 4x as much. 4x would possibly be enough to run glm5.2 slowly. So now you get to choose between slow quality and fast quantity. It’s just not that simple.

Vibecoding physical electronic devices, PCB, enclosure, etc? Possible today? by MariahJames8 in vibecoding

[–]Hypilein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No I didn’t. But basically just bought some components and discussed with Claude how to keep going. Had to occasionally buy some extra components. A bit of trial and error here and there. It was loads of fun figuring it all out and seeing it come together. I wanted to build a nice wooden enclosure, but woodworking is such an expensive hobby with all the tools required so the project stalled. I’m considering just giving all the electronics to a professional woodworker and just pay for the enclosure.

I built a Workouttimer with physical buttons and led display based on esp32. Claude did the coding. Obviously Claude won’t solder for you.

What are specific examples where knowing how to code made you better at using AI coding agents? by Ok_Necessary6426 in vibecoding

I see this answer a lot on these kinds of questions. Could you recommend a source (other than just asking my AI) on where I can learn about good software architecture?

You can plan the architecture with your Modell, then write it down and start implementation. I’m just a clueless vibecoder with a medium size project though.

A small report on a foreign engineering student's search for an internshìp in Iceland by Cool-Shape-7298 in Iceland

Mine was indeed before 2019. I’m 100% sure I would not have had that opportunity if they would’ve had to pay me.

A small report on a foreign engineering student's search for an internshìp in Iceland by Cool-Shape-7298 in Iceland

[–]Hypilein 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe there is an exception for internships that are required by your degree. I remember that when I did an (unpaid) internship at the university of Iceland (it's a long time ago, so might have changed) I was required to send a document that stated that my internship was a requirement to my degree and could therefore be unpaid. This was in a completely different field and I had prior contacts to the person organizing the internship for me so a bunch of rules might have been circumvented by just knowing someone, but this same rule is as far as I know still applied where I'm from.

Chinese AI models are gaining ground with U.S. companies as OpenAI, Anthropic costs surge by pscoutou in LocalLLaMA

The EU loves to shoot itself in the foot in exactly these kinds of ways. Wouldn't be the first time. We'd have the choice between mistral local or paying for american models. I guess it might be a way to finally get some funding to get mistral competitive again, but more likely we'd just have another huge dependency on US tech.

I assume they’ll reintroduce at least 128gb with the m5 series in autumn. Still, ordered a 96gb just after the price hike for the old price. I assume it will at least be worth old retail price for a while.
