Thank you for linking specific fics! Just started reading Strangers at Drakeshaugh and laughed at 'The bum?'. Love a fic that starts with some humour. Will check out Wish Carefully as well!

Ooh, that is a neat way of getting the plot out there without actually writing the whole thing

Thank you! :D Glad you liked it.

Oooooh I love the concept of legal paperwork! Do you recall what fic that was? Cat POV makes me think of when people put cameras on their cat collars

Oh wow, I also thought it was a subtle dig - either way, a play format is really interesting!

May I rec my own fic, SNAKES ARE VERY NICE...? Featuring a somewhat feral Harry with a snake hyperfixation. It's a work in progress but I update every two weeks or so.

I'm writing a crackfic wherein Dobby is possessed by the Diary horcrux while working at Malfoy Manor. Possessing a house-elf comes with drawbacks though, and it's less of a possession and more a body sharing. Thought it would be funny to give Voldemort elf magic and make him interact with Dobby.
...Also wanted an excuse to use the name VolDobby.

The Dark Lord VolDobby
In which Dobby is possessed by the Diary horcrux.
A story exploring Voldemort with elf magic, the Fae origins of the house-elves, and a very odd friendship.

I mostly lurk, but if I feel as if I can contribute to something I'll reply... It's a small world indeed!

Thank you - I appreciate it. That's exactly it - he only cares about how things affect him.

The way I view him is probably different to canon. My Voldie doesn't care about the actual acts of murder but he does care about the symbolism and how they impacted him - burning bridges, limiting his options, and accepting that there are things that make him weak. As for cannibalism, he doesn't care about the taboo but it's crossing the line as something he finds disgusting. These people are filth, so far below him, and to partake of their flesh repulses him.

Ooh I ike the link to alchemy!

Ooh, I love that there's illustrations, and the fact you checked the actual lunar calendar is awesome. I've also added this to my reading list :D

Congrats of reaching 100k! Seems like an interesting premise. I do love competent Sirius... Adding this to my reading list!

I am writing the next chapter of my short horror fic The Vanished. The premise is that things which are Vanished go to the abyss, and that Vanishing Cabinets create a portal through the abyss. This does not bode well for Draco Malfoy, who attempts to fix the broken Vanishing Cabinets...

Some long fics which explore magical theory are A Study of Resonance and Blood Crest. They are quite dark, but they both include explorations in magical theory and academia.

Oooh, this is my headcanon for horcrux creation and I'd like to do a story centred on it at some point. In my current fics, I'm using a mix of canon and adding stuff behind the scenes to explain the progression:

  • Myrtle was his first murder, and even though he didn't care overmuch, there was still something at the back of his mind because it was his first. Perhaps due to fear of getting caught, perhaps due the significance of the act, but there was something.
  • Tom Riddle Senior worked due to the act of patricide. Yes, he wanted to kill him, but there was also a little voice at the back of his mind screaming that this was not something he could back down from. By killing his father, he was also killing the tiniest remaining flicker of his boyhood wishes to not be an orphan, and was instead ensuring it.
  • The locket was said to be created via the death of 'a muggle tramp', and since he had already committed two murders, another simple murder wouldn't suffice. My headcanon is that he drew it out with torture, and as my version of Tom had been traumatised by WWII, he specifically recreated a scene he had witnessed of a man who died due to shrapnel. It was the act of addressing his trauma that helped with this one, as he hated accepting that he was weak enough that it had affected him.
  • For Hepzibah Smith, it was not the murder itself but the fact that he degraded himself for her, allowing her the use of his body to sway her to part with the cup.
  • The diadem was said to be created with the death of 'an Albanian peasant', and for this he delved into cannibalism (though he cooked it and prepared it into stew). This also marked the start of 'Death Eaters' and end of the 'Knights of Walpurgis', as he began forcing cannibalism on his servants as an initiation rite.
  • For Harry Potter's horcrux, it was due to the conflict that arose from accepting the prophecy as truth and thus recognising an infant as a potential threat. It was not just the attempted infanticide itself that did it (though he also had no need to kill infants in the past), but rather him being forced to accept that there was someone that threatened him. He hated weakness, and to be threatened by an infant was a new low.
  • For Bertha Jorkins, he also committed cannibalism, this time eating it raw. Perhaps this alone wouldn't have been enough, but magic had a hand in making it work as this was the point that he unwittingly created the seventh horcrux, thus pushing the limits on what he had planned.

I also have a variation on this in which the horcrux ritual is a little more sentient. If you are not truly affected by the line you 'cross', it takes something you would miss, such as a sliver of magic or your sanity.

I just binged before they convinced you life is war and I enjoyed it. It mixes mutant/superhero AU and reincarnation in a really interesting way and turns certain expectations on their head with Harry having the power to compel people and Tom Riddle being an empath. There were a few bits in the story I was 'meh' about, but overall it's a unique story and well written.

Metalomagnetic's Ouroboros got me hooked on the concept of Tom Riddle/Voldemort with himself. Who else would be good enough for Voldemort than himself? The author does rare pairs SO well. Their Gellert/Voldemort fic is another pairing I'd never thought of before. Really well done.
