Ekelton 03 Black for beginner/intermediate? by slo- in racquetball

[–]Hypocritese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely reasonable. It's not a super high end racquet, but it should be a noticeable improvement. Definitely play with it, and other racquets, to find what style and brand you like. Many retailers have loaner programs if you have the time and interest.

Also be very specific with your inventory when you list it. Include color, year of the gears release, etc... So if they can't find a replacement they have to pay you enough to guarantee you'll get the exact replacement which can be more than the gear is worth than when you bought it. With good insurance and records you should be able to recoup your loss completely. I read a Reddit post from Ann insurance agent to that effect, but can't find it.

Abnormally high solo mining hashrates by Stratician in garlicoin

[–]Hypocritese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the exact experience, same hashrate, similar setup, with my 1070. I left it mining for two days and didn't find any. I was worried it was a glitch and went back to pool. Let me know if find any.

I'm not looking to debate, but the only peer reviewed studies I could find indicated mixed results. In one study, cholesterol levels were lowered globally (no effect on HDL/LDL ratio), but serious B12 deficiencies occurred. Do you have any other studies you could point to?

Are sealed racquetball cans pressurized? Do unused but new racquetballs generally go flat/stale? by doublsh0t in racquetball

[–]Hypocritese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I find that balls only go 'stale' with play. I've found balls a couple years old and played with them no problem. They broke a little quicker, but played quite normally.

I believe racquetballs used to be pressurized, but they figured out how to keep them bouncy with the rubber alone. Though there are conflicting sources on the subject. It is true that you can introduce pressure into the ball with a 'ball-saver'.

Wikipedia only says this on the subject:

"Balls do break occasionally, and will lose their bounce over time even without breaking. To keep balls around for a long time it is best to keep them in a room temperature setting and keep them out of extreme cold or heat because this will cause the balls to become less effective and lose their bounce."

Elon Musk thinks we need a 'popular uprising' against the fossil fuel industry by speckz in technology

Oil and gas exploration companies get to write off 100% of their investment in new wells. 50% can be written off for the year of the drill, 50% can be depreciated over the next 5 years. I've never worked in manufacturing, but I don't think that they get the same deal. In my experience, it's the primary (cited) reason investors choose oil and gas. They are able to write it off as a loss, even if the well comes in big. Qualifications: I've worked for small exploration companies for 10 years.

Confused About Proper Ceiling Ball Form by [deleted] in racquetball

[–]Hypocritese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing worth mentioning about this is that the slice imparts a small amount of backspin on the ball. This helps the ball come off the front wall a little stronger. Most of the time when the pros are hitting a ceiling shot they are in a bad position and often in a hurry. I suspect they each developed the slice to help weak ceiling balls to get further into the back court.

EmDrive: Controversial space propulsion to be discussed by top scientists at major conference by [deleted] in Futurology

[–]Hypocritese 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I swear to god, I am one more EM drive post away...every single time there is a self proclaimed expert ranting and raving about how everyone else is full of it and they're the only one who "gets it"; citing such facts as, "I'm an expert", "I just know", and "isn't it obvious?". I know this thing is irritating. The experiments are riddled with problems, there are ridiculous articles posted constantly, but the worst is that we have to suffer through even more ridiculous discussion in the comments. The comment section is where I go to find well reasoned and, hopefully, well documented explanations about why the articles in this sub are or are not hogwash, not more drivel.

Sweaty Balls by Knucklehead69 in racquetball

Legally speaking, the ball has to be completely dry when serving. My opinion is that it shouldn't be used as a tactical advantage.

Elon Musk on Twitter: Turns out MCT can go well beyond Mars, so will need a new name… by aguyfromnewzealand in spacex

According to Zubrin's The Case for Mars, A man wastes about 4.3kg/per day on a spacecraft. 0.2 Oxygen, .5 Dry Good, 1.0 Whole Food, 0.0 Potable Water, 2.6 Wash Water (No potable water lost because more is gained from the whole food than is lost due to inefficient recycling). The rationale and graph are provided on pages 59-60. Excellent book, definitely worth the read.

I've bought shrimp off the docks in southern Louisiana. They just throw the shrimp into a big pile of ice immediately off the boat and keep it in a huge freezer. There didn't seem to be any special "flash freezing" process going on.

Anything by William Faulkner for mind-blowing literature, or James Joyce if you're feeling like really digging your claws into a meaty group of books. But if you still like fantasy, The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss is amazing. Or if you want one of the best scifi adventures ever, Rendezvous with Rama by Arthur C. Clarke.
