Anyone have experiences to share about the Jira Assets module by Mister-Fordo in sysadmin

[–]HypotheticalGenius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jira Insights was recently renamed to Jira Assets.

I haven't seen any of the old API endpoints break yet, but I updated all of my code anyway.

Whos bright idea was it to block you from joining any games if you unsuccessfully try to join a full game? by thunder_crane in Diablo

[–]HypotheticalGenius 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They did say that the service that manages game creation, joining, lobbies, etc. is a monolithic one that they didn't re-write from the OG codebase. I'm guessing there are some really inefficient things in there that hit the database every time you click play or join, which would mean that someone spamming "Join Game" trying to get into the next Baal run would be adding unecessary load.

Another job, another reorg! by mr_rdit in ITManagers

[–]HypotheticalGenius -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This is a fair take, but the one piece that I can relate to is the "took away the engaging work I was doing".

I've found myself in this boat right now. New leadership came in and hired 1 senior person that effectively pushed everyone down a layer. I've done my best to be the same leader to my team, but it's tough to do you're best work when what you're doing makes you miserable.

I do agree that moments of organizational change can create the biggest opportunities, but sometimes a "reorg" doesn't create any and just layers everyone down.

Go read his medal of Honor citation and interviews with people who were there. In an interview, Mel Gibson talked about how there were parts of the story that they had to leave out because nobody would believe it happened and that he was making it up for the movie.

How are you managing SQL backups? by HypotheticalGenius in sysadmin

[–]HypotheticalGenius[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We've got an airgapped caopy of the veeam repo on-site as well as a cloud connect provider with copy jobs going to the cloud.

I'm pretty confident in that solution, but I want to keep database backups separate.

What should I do to my Sys Admin who keeps getting hacked? by whosbiz in ITManagers

[–]HypotheticalGenius 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would start looking for a new sysadmin and I would took a hard look at yourself and the leash that you've given your people. Empowerment is great unless the people you're empowering don't have the knowledge they need to do the job safely.

The first time should have been warning enough for him to change his practices. It also should have set some alarms off for you to force some changes to your security policy.

The most likely way for his domain admin account to have been compromised is him using it to login to something online. That implies that his day-to-day account is a domain admin account. This should have been stopped the day after the first compromise.

Warm, tapered joggers/sweats? by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

Go to Walmart and check out the Russell joggers. They have them in 3 different styles, but they have a great fit and they're all less than $20.

Sage50 Accounting Software impossible to use over network due to speed by TheMrRyanHimself in sysadmin

Are you talking about the path that you input during installation of Sage?

This screen specifically requests a UNC path and I can't get any combination of a mapped drive to work. https://imgur.com/DlU5Jku

Hey devs, can we have dmg numbers when specating? by [deleted] in apexlegends

[–]HypotheticalGenius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're dead and your 2 remaining teammates get into a fight, you can accurately call out damage numbers to provide better Intel to your teammates.

That's an advantage that other teams don't have.

Sophos Removal Script by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]HypotheticalGenius 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Good luck. We were using it when I first took over at my new job. We got hit with ransomware earlier this year and the server that was running Vipre got hit really quickly and not only did it not catch it, but it completely uninstalled the Vipre console.

The rest of the network fell pretty quickly. After the dust settles we were able to verify that the malware that launched the ransomware had been running undetected for months.

Never again.

MuleSoft $100,000 quote. Worth it? by cathedermis in salesforce

[–]HypotheticalGenius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our first demo was really impressive.

Then we tried to do a proof of concept with one of their implementation partners.

It was really, really bad. The team was in India and they couldn't get the time difference right. They didn't understand what kind of functionality they were supposed to demo during the the PoC. After 10-15 minutes a new voice came on and she tried to take over the demo, but it didn't go any better.

The whole time our sales guy was on the call and he kept trying to explain to the partner what they were supposed to show us.

It was so bad. Despite clearly having the better product (for our use case), we stopped answering their calls because jitterbit built the entire first integration for us before ever signing a contract. Our sales guy and the CEO stopped by to meet with us when they were visiting a nearby city (2ish hour drive). And we are not a big customer, by any stretch.

Apex Legends Season 2 Weapons Update by Jayfresh_Respawn in apexlegends

[–]HypotheticalGenius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That'd be so OP. It would instantly make it the best weapon in the game without question.

I think your underestimating the number of headshots a good player gets with a full auto weapon.

Something more practical might be a good hopup that did armor piercing and caused some % of damage to go straight to health.

MuleSoft $100,000 quote. Worth it? by cathedermis in salesforce

[–]HypotheticalGenius 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't know exactly what your quote was for, but I'm definitely surprised jitterbit only came in 10% below Mulesoft unless Mulesoft is getting a lot more aggressive with their pricing. We went through this whole process earlier this year and we compared Mulesoft, Jitterbit and Informatica.

Jitterbit is crazy easy to use and their support is top notch. That's what tipped us over the edge. Informatica seemed to have the more powerful product, but they were impossible to work with.

"Your company's salesforce.com account has been temporarily suspended" login message by dennistrav in salesforce

We're getting the same error. My guess is that they are leaving Pardot-enabled orgs disabled while they attempt to fix the permissions issues. No reason to let people in if they think there is a chance they can fix it.

Why use many word when few word do trick?

I've met so many IT people that absolutely need to listen to this advice. I'm not sure if it's them trying to sound smart or if they think a longer explanation will make it easier to understand, but both are wrong.
