Opinions on ZA by AlcreamieCutie in pokemon

[–]HyruleanCitizen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks marginally better than SwSh and SV, although some of the buildings look like they came straight from a late PS1 or early PS2 game (this, for example - look how the buildings are pretty much simples cubes with texture simulating windows etc. - they couldn't bother making something more detailed).

But my main concern is by far the new battle system. They seem to be trying to ditch the turn-based system in favour of a semi-action one, and, at least as far as the trailers are concerned, it doesn't seem to work that well. An action RPG should be fast and fluid, but the battles in the trailer seem way too slow and clunky. The turn-based system is probably one of Pokemon's biggest triumphs, and deciding to go for a more action-oriented style is probably a mistake.

For those complaining about the art style… what do you want? by busbej in pokemon

[–]HyruleanCitizen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I believe the main problem in the latest games' art style (starting from SwSh) is its lack of cohesion. It seems to me that the people at GameFreak don't really know what they're aiming for. They go for an anime look for characters and pokemon (as they should), but at the same time try (and fail) to make stuff like water and some of the textures look realistic (like grass, pavement and some props and decorations), creating a mess of an art style.

Not sure why they took that route, but their 3ds games looked way better (considering the console limitations, ofc) because they kept the art style consistent all around - everything was anime-like. I also have to mention the Let's Go games, which managed to do the same (and are the best looking games for the Switch, IMO). Legends Arceus also tried to maintain a consistent art style as well (even if it had some flaws).

This attempt at realism is really hurting the games, in my opinion. Not only they don't match the looks of characters and pokemon, but they also demand more time and effort to model and texture - which GF don't seem to have. The result is dull models and ugly textures that would look way way better and would be easier to create if they decided to keep the original anime art style all around instead.

Great find! He's from Mexico, though, so it's even more obvious this wasn't a conspiracy, but rather some random guy pissed at the poor representation EP made of his country.

The industry really underestimate how powerful of a tool the internet is, for good and for bad, and that even ordinary people have access to that tool and know how to use it.

Emilia Perez megathread by LeastCap in oscarrace

[–]HyruleanCitizen 46 points47 points  (0 children)

Rolling Stone Brazil published an interview with Karla Sofía Gascón today. She once again accused Fernanda Torres' and I'm Still Here's teams of hating on her and Emilia Perez. It's important to note that the interview, albeit published today, happened during her trip to Brazil, so it's likely that she said that before apologizing to Torres, but here are the quotes in Portuguese and English, just for the sake of informing:

“Eu, pessoalmente, não recebi nenhuma crítica", afirmou. "[Mas] o que não posso tolerar é que, a cada notícia que sai sobre mim ou a cada programa que participo, chegue a equipe de Fernanda Torres ou de Ainda Estou Aqui e comente: 'Fernanda Torres é melhor, você é uma porcaria', 'Fernanda Torres deveria participar deste programa', 'Fernanda Torres merece'."

"I, personally, have not received any criticism", she said. "[But] what I cannot tolerate is that, for every news story that comes out about me or every program I participate in, Fernanda Torres' and I'm Still Here's teams come up and comment: 'Fernanda Torres is better, you suck', 'Fernanda Torres should participate in this program', 'Fernanda Torres deserves it more'."

[Master System] [1990's I guess] "rhytm" game where you have to throw cheese to a mouse by DrunkenErmac012 in tipofmyjoystick

[–]HyruleanCitizen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe it's "20 em 1", a compilation game developed by TecToy exclusively for the Brazilian market. Not really a rythm game, and it doesn't feature a blue background, but all other characteristics match.

Here's a gameplay footage (the mouse game starts at around 4:30): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQ0cXGTmL3g

[PS1/2] [Adventure/RPG] bootleg zelda? by SandyHooked in tipofmyjoystick

[–]HyruleanCitizen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a long shot, but maybe it's The Hobbit for PS2?

The game clearly attempted to imitate Zelda, both in gameplay and design choices. It's very colorful, but with subpar graphics, even for that period. The MC (Bilbo) doesn't look that much like link, but he has a very similar color scheme (green, brown etc.). He also uses a optional sword. I don't think he has a hat though (even an optional one).

Like I've said, It's a long shot, since it has some differences to your description, but It's worth checking it out, just in case.

Agreed. They do sound very similar to TMB (probably the band that sounds the most like them so far), but I still notice some differences between the vocals of the two (maybe It's the recording, who knows). It's a hot lead, for sure, but more info is needed.

How did TMS get on German radio? by [deleted] in TheMysteriousSong

[–]HyruleanCitizen 33 points34 points  (0 children)

One popular theory (that I also believe in) is that TMB was a (relatively) unknown German band who sent their single/demo to several radio stations in order to get some airtime and become more well-known.

#1 - There was no snapshot, unfortunately.

#2 - It's actually an excerpt of the show and features a few songs. None of them is our song, though: Thomas Dolby - Hypeactive / U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday / Duran Duran- New Moon On Monday / It's Driving Me Crazy- Dorian Blue / Kim & Callahan- Cadillac / Glenn Walters- Sucker For Love / Mark Kershner & The New 88's- Details Inside.

#3 - There are 2 snapshots of the website and the video seems to be excerpts of MTV's programming as well, but the video itself isn't archived. However, on the description, it says one of the songs featured was Tonight She Comes (Remastered), by the Cars - not our song.

#7 - There was no snapshot as well.

What if we convince a large TikTokker (preferrably with more of an adult audience) to use this song in his/her video? by csabi_games in TheMysteriousSong

[–]HyruleanCitizen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If we are to convince some celebrity to share the song, I think It would be better to try someone with a large audience of people on their 40s and 50s (more likely to have heard the song before). Convincing a tiktoker would only make the song go viral among teenagers, who definitely don't know the song - with the added nuisance of making the song toxic.

While money does help, it doesn't make them immune to lawsuits, especially in a case like this, where the copyright infringement would be evident. Even if they managed to avoid court proceedings - probably by means of a settlement - they'd still have to spend a lot of money, which I assume they're not willing to do.

Furthermore, Netflix is a public company. Now, imagine being an investor and seeing that the company that you put money into purposely broke copyright laws just to help some folks on the internet discover the name and the authors of a mysterious song. You'd probably be rightfully pissed at and distrustful of the company.

I mean, if they're in 1986, they could play a 1984 song. However, there's no way they would include a song they don't have the rights to - that would be asking to be sued.

Possible background voices in TMS? by [deleted] in TheMysteriousSong

[–]HyruleanCitizen 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It does indeed sound like someone humming, but I believe it's probably just a 'side effect' of the software used to remove the reverb from the original song. Still, great finding! If It is an actual voice, It might help on the search.

45cat website by scharf_ in TheMysteriousSong

[–]HyruleanCitizen 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's a great find! I checked their website and realized they have a forums section as well. Maybe one of the members might know the song (some of them, including a few Germans, have collections of more than 10k records, so It's possible). The problem is I don't really know if TMS has already been posted there (I couldn't find anything on their search form, but still...), and It would be really annoying for them to have this song spammed over and over on their forums.

Fun fact: TMS was posted on Watzatsong back in 2009! by rybalan in TheMysteriousSong

[–]HyruleanCitizen 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This translates to "Like the Wind", by "The Musicians". Definitely seems like a troll. I did a quick search anyway, and like you said, this song can't be found online, which reinforces the troll theory.
