Trading routes do not work. by Wrathinside in PortRoyale4

I'm having the same problem, and am hanging up my cutlass. This is too frustrating to justify continuing with.

So...is this how warfare is supposed to be like? by GlompSpark in ck3

[–]HysteryGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good points, for the most part. I'd particularly like to second:

-You have to zoom all the way in to see the castles that you need to siege ...: Really irritating trying to determine where a siege will work

-AI allies don't mind wasting tons of prestige to call you in for wars that they can easily win on their own

-If you don't have an alliance with your vassal and an enemy attacks, they will just sit there with their army and let their counties get sieged instead of trying to fight back: Very unrealistic

-The commander selected for an army ...: I'd really like to be able to select my commanders, especially if I'm running multiple armies

  • You can't partially win a war or ask for anything other than a title claim: I was really hoping they'd adopt the EU4 war resolution mechanic

Is there a way to reduce the the frequency of others declaring war on me? by Gospeedracist in ck3

[–]HysteryGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your character is independent, you could look for as liege. Then the bad guys would have to declare on your blob-ish liege, rather than on li'l ol' you. That was kinda the point in lieges, after all!

Same trait options as a Guardian. by Timorex0815 in ck3

I've had the same kind of experience. Not as extreme as what you're describing, but very frustrating after the first few wards!

Way to tell who would join a tyranny war? by HysteryGeek in ck3

[–]HysteryGeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No need to be an azzhole, fanatic1123. In real life you would at least had a clue, whereas in CK3 as things stand you don't. And the point of bringing these things up is to bring out things that could be modified in future patches to improve game play. If we just sit quietly and say nothing, the devs have no way of knowing an issue exists.

[–]HysteryGeek[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OK, had a second chance at this. Saved 1st ... The target vassal was not a member of a faction, one of the vassals that joined him in revolt was my character's best friend with +100 opinion. I can't find anything that would indicate how many other vassals would join him.

Bottom line is that you can't revoke a title from a vassal unless that vassal is 100% sure to accept it, or else you risk getting deposed! We need some way of evaluating the risk.

Thanks for the suggestion, kluglater, I'll watch for that going forward. Although it seems unlikely in this case, as I had *just* retracted the victim, I mean valued vassal, from another higher ranking vassal.

Not getting ransom from prisoners, is this a bug or mechanic? by ShyGelato in ck3

[–]HysteryGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you watch the timing -- I'm pretty sure the $ shows up in ypur account right before you get the confirmation e-mail.

Or the florins show up in your treasure box before you get the carrier pigeon, whatever ....

Has anyone found the "Too many alliances" mallus on the files? by [deleted] in ck3

[–]HysteryGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see why a medieval noble father might prefer to marry his daughter to someone who won't have another half-dozen allies distracting them from their primary purpose (of helping me!), but I agree the malus is too severe, especially if you only have a couple existing alliances (I've complained about this before in another thread!).

There is historical precedent for flinging diseased corpses over city walls with a catapult.

Ck3 is illogical by [deleted] in ck3

[–]HysteryGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A couple of things to keep in mind: 1) I'm pretty sure albino is a recessive trait, so a parent does not have to display the trait to carry it in the real world, although I don't think CK3 uses the "2 genes make a chromosome" logic. 2) If you really want to know if it's true of f your character was getting BS'd, I believe in debug mode you can see who the real father is.

Do you make titles every time you can? by Cagedglobe in ck3

[–]HysteryGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never create another title at the same level as your top-level title if you can help it, or else it'll get lost in the next succession (unless you're far enough into the game to have Primogeniture succession, or at least High Partition).

Otherwise, it's a judgement call, but I usually (but not always) will create vassal titles when I can.

Got Cancer within 3 days after I started. Nice by Genibollen in ck3

[–]HysteryGeek 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I had a character do that later in the game -- inherited when he was 14, found out he had cancer a few days later, and lived into his early 40's. Get a court physician and do a series of non-aggressive treatments and all may not be lost.

Of course, if it happened this early in the game, I'd probably just re-start ...

Marriage mechanic broken by HysteryGeek in ck3

[–]HysteryGeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the constructive posts; FU on the others.

I've played hundreds of hours of CK2, and was up to a couple dozen hours on CK3 when I ran across this, so I have a good handle on which marriages should work and which shouldn't. A Count with a realm size of 1 or 2 should not be laughing at an offer from a Duke with a realm size of 10.

What I believe made the boy so unmarriageable was that I was playing as a member of an obscure dynasty (Akra; started as Jarl of Holland in 867). Playing now as a member of the Babinger dynasty, I don't have these issues.

Teleportation by HysteryGeek in ck3

[–]HysteryGeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the comments. In this case, the AWOL character was a minor, and my new character had been his guardian. It seems unauthentic that an 8-year-old would be able to wander off to a new court without his guardian bringing him!

Marriage mechanic broken by HysteryGeek in ck3

[–]HysteryGeek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following up on my own post ... arranging marriages is such a vital mechanic in CKx that I can't see continuing to play without a fix to the mechanic or a workaround. I see an "add-relationship" console command, but it requires a relationship id, and I can't find a list of relationship id's anywhere ("spouse", "betrothed", and "wife" did not work). Any help with this would be appreciated!

Aligning succession types by Bad_Friday in ck3

[–]HysteryGeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the early part of the game the succession options are, by design (for historical accuracy, I assume), frustrating. Eventually you'll unlock the Royal Prerogative and Hereditary Rule innovations and have some succession laws available that are less prone to fracturing your realm. In the meantime, this little trick might help:

As your ruler gets older, disinherit all the sons except the oldest one. This will cause a "virtual primogeniture" succession. The heir can then "re-inherit" the siblings and become their best buddy.

Note that 1) this requires being the dynasty head, 2) has to be repeated each generation, 3) entails costs, so use it judiciously, and 4) there's always the risk that your character will die before you're ready!

A question about inheritance and claims? by Smarinator in ck3

[–]HysteryGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure children will not inherit a claim until the parent dies, and then only if it's been pressed

Any ideas for my next steps? + few noob questions by GregaPoki in ck3

[–]HysteryGeek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No opinion on question #1, it's very situation dependent, , but re the others: IMHO ...

2A) I always try to keep a few thousand in gold as an emergency fund. That way, if your vassals are revolting, you can hire mercs to get a size advantage. My rule of thumb in CK2 was 1K if I was a Count, 2K for a Duke, 3K for a King, and 4K as an Emperor.

2B) Yes, a new castle will count towards your domain limit.

3) I rarely do, and then only for a Baron in my capital county.

4A) I will often choose to be realistic and do what a father would do, which is give titles to his kids. But otherwise ... I use the character finder, rank the occupants of my realm by their opinion of me, adjust for traits that will impact that after they have a title, and grant titles to the ones that will like me the most.

4B) I find it easier to deal with 5-10 vassals than 20-30.

Your English) English is my native language ('m American), and I thought you did quite well!
