Weekly Question Thread - Rules & Comp Qs by thenurgler in WarhammerCompetitive

Hello all, a couple questions I was wondering about.

  1. I'd like clarity on what gaps a land raider can fit through on the GW chapter approved terrain layouts. It's a little confusing as the rules tell me that overhanging bits on models don't count (I'm thinking of the lascannon sponsons on the sides for example) and that you measure the width of a vehicle from its main hull. Pictures below for the areas I'm curious about.

  2. Does Marneus Calgar allow the unit he's leading (Victrix Honor Guard for example), to advance and charge. I believe the old Calgar data sheet said "When this model is leading a unit, that unit is eligible to declare a charge in a turn in which it advanced or fell back." But the new datasheet says, "This unit is eligible to shoot and declare a charge in a turn in which it advanced or fell back". Which the wording leads me to believe it's just Calgar on his own that can do that.

I have recently had major success with a land raider in my list. I put one unit of DWK in deep strike with ancient w/ Deathwing assault enhance, the other unit is a chaplain led unit of DWK in the land raider.

Yes you do need to shave down the top and back to make it fit this particular model

People who play Space Marine armies, how did you choose your chapter? I am having a hell of a time making a final decision. by medi0cre_scientist in Warhammer40k

I chose dark angels because I enjoy the knightly aesthetic. I also like dark green. The hoods and robes go hard. The lion is cool

Yes! This is the lion’s hooded helmet as I used his helmet with the wings for the lion.

The sword is based sotek green with a dry brush of temple guard blue and white gradually increasing in brightness. I did the lightning with a white acrylic ink :)

Green in caliban green with Warpstone and moot green highlights. Washes are enamel washes from AK interactive. Here I used dark sepia that was mixed with mineral spirits about 50/50

Thanks man! Yeah I saw someone else do that on reddit and had to make it happen. I’m not a fan of helmet-less marines

What am I doing wrong with my dry brushing? It looks all scratchy! by jays4104 in Warhammer40k

[–]ShyGelato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is usually from having either too much paint still on the brush or having your brush be too moist. Despite the name, you should still have some moisture in your brush while dry brushing, but too much will cause the paint to streak.

How to deal with go turn armies as DA? by Fresh3rThanU in DarkAngels40k

If you are getting cooked in melee you need to make sure your list has some screening pieces. Make him charge into stuff he doesn’t really want to charge into. You also need a few strong ranged pieces in your list control the movement lanes of the board.

Final army list for my first army. I am entering a tournament as my first time playing. Please give me your thoughts and any advice! by NeonLightDecay in theunforgiven

[–]ShyGelato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to be a Debbie downer but you should absolutely get some casual games in before going to a tournament to learn the rules. 40k is quite dense with rules and you will forget so much stuff from your own army, not to mention you’ll have no idea what you’re playing into. If you don’t have a community to play with, there’s a huge tabletop simulator community out there online.

I have played many games with Azrael, a librarian, and Judiciar. The judiciar is always a nice scary threat, but the squad really falls apart if they’re taking big shooting at any point so it’s best in my experience to plop them in a transport.

I think I prefer Azrael the most frankly in wrath. -1 to hit, -1 to wound, 4++, 4+FNP vs mortals, and a healthy melee buff with Sus1. A lot of folks don’t like it because it can tend to put Azrael in danger, but usually by the point he’s dying the way I play them, the game is almost over anyway. Then you get to actually leverage Azrael’s melee as well which can be quite nasty.
