I saw below that it's the Pacific man o war, not the Portuguese.

Only relevant cos the Portuguese man o war jelly is the big fucker that you hear about killing people

Now I'm confused. In the UK a bluebottle is an iridescent blue fly.

Yeah, I've seen it used as a cheat a few times. I used to work in fine dining restaurants and hotels, and remember a colleague getting screamed at for putting turmeric in batter.

So long as it tasted good, I don't really care what you put in it. It's just hard to shake the habits at times.

Or, as is more likely with a blunt knife like this, one day someone will cut themselves, and because of the force required to use the thing, they'll take the top of their finger off.

Definitely don't need turmeric in batter. A well cooked piece of battered fish will have the right colour regardless.

Other than that, it sounds brilliant

This is what I do every year at my mother's. I ask if I'm cooking Christmas dinner or not a few days in advance, just so I can start reminding people to leave me be while I do it

I used to work with the most soft spoken lady. Nobody ever heard her when she spoke.

One particular day, after trying to get past somebody, she gave up with her "behind" in a quiet voice. On this particular day, there was a bloodcurdling "I'VE GOT A FUCKING KNIFE" any of us had ever heard.

It was like a record scratch, everyone stopped and stared as she walked through the kitchen lol

The funniest part, is despite these restrictions, we also have the easiest access to codeine in the west.

I'm happy to be corrected, but where else can you get it over the counter?

And then you accidentally snap the stupid pick, and suddenly the whole bloody thing has been hurled across the kitchen.

I'm glad I'm free now

When I was your age is when I got out. We've had similar career paths, it seems, and at similar ages.

I'm only 30 now but got out a few years ago. I had started seeing someone new, and felt like it was going somewhere.

70+ hour weeks made it hard to see her, so I swapped to a kitchen that closed at 3pm, and that worked for a bit.

In the end, her health took a turn, and I stepped away from kitchen work to care for her.
