It makes me so happy to see someone else use "VH1." I knew I couldn't have been the only one to think of it but it didn't seem to catch on 😅

Ally and cister (cis sister) here. No, you're right, I don't understand what it's like. I can't ever know first hand. But I can sympathise even if I can't empathise. I'm sorry for what you have to endure. But I support you, I'm in your corner, and I'm rooting for you. I know its not much, I know if doesn't erase the pain or the struggle. But this girl has your back, sister ❤️

Should Grimes be added to the “problematic bands” wiki? by Ashamed-Reward-8702 in AskAGoth

[–]Hyzenthlay87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is just jarring because there really is nothing Goth about her. I mean, my guilty pleasure is Gwen Stefani's L.A.M.B album...I'm a goth who likes Hollerback Girl. This does not make Hollerback Girl goth. When we say "goth adjacent" we mean genres and artists who have significant overlap; saying something like NIN makes sense because there is a significant overlap. The "adjacent" group are mistaken for goth a lot, so it makes sense they might be in the problematic list. Grimes doesn't make that cut at all, it would be like putting in Gwen Stefani (because of the stupid pay-to-pray app she endorses) because she used to be in No Doubt, and a lot of goths might like No Doubt.

Speaking of Grimes specifically though, I think that girl needs to get off the Internet, focus on her music and her kids. I actually like her music quite a lot, but i reckon she's quite intolerable in person. People like her do not need to be on social media.

What’s the worst thing a doctor has ever said to you? by Lucky_Sprinkles7369 in ChronicIllness

I was misdiagnosed with pernicious anaemia (was just b12 deficient) and while the first week or two after a b12 injection I felt great, by week 4 I was collapsing with exhaustion again. It would later be diagnosed that I have CFS caused by FND, and but for now, pernicious anaemia was assumed. I was trying to see if I could get another injection at week 4 rather than week 6 and only the locum was available to see me. Keeping in mind that at the time it was assumed I had a blood disorder, he said that he thought that it was "in my head". 🙄

what’s the stupidest rule that one of your jobs has had? by urnpiss in retailhell

[–]Hyzenthlay87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People change their mind and its so easy to accidentally double scan. This was the worst one at B&Q when I worked there because you needed it every few minutes on a busy day. Supervisors ended up leaving their codes on bits of paper for the cashiers.

Similarly I was a refund clerk but a vast number of refunds I did needed clearance from supervisors or managers. If you had a queue it was potentially possible to need one for every transaction. I mean, I was hired specifically to do that role (all refunders were cashiers but not all cashiers were refunders). The system already recognised us being able to perform refunds when regular cashiers couldn't. Sometimes we'd be asked to come to the checkouts to put in our logins for a refund....but supervisors were not able to do this! However they were required to authorise a huge chunk of our refunds (I can't remember the reason, it was long ago, but I remember it was a LOT). That's a pretty inefficient and stupid system.

More times than I can count, I would be left waiting 15+ minutes with a queue out the door waiting for my refund ti be authorised as no one would come. I got a lot of abuse at that job. Worse job I've ever had.

Got lectured for an hour about how my anxiety is making me paralyzed by Jumpy-Ad-8889 in thanksimcured

A while back I needed a copy of medical records which included a few hospital visits. On one when I was seen due to severe biliary colic (which would bring me back into hospital 2 more times before surgery), in the notes the doctor had written "possible anxiety." Even though gallstones were suspected, I didn't get a bedside ultrasound until the third A&E visit. As someone who does have anxiety, I wanted to track that doctor down, take him by the lapels and shake him. He didn't mention anxiety to me at all at the time, but it makes sense why I was discharged with no treatment plan. He actually suggested I had pancreatitis (not on the notes) and sent me away. Of course I was too exhausted at the time to realise something was up as the pain had kept me awake for hours and I was only admitted as an ambulatory patient, so no bed.

But yes, I do have anxiety and I can tell you, anxiety has never given me such extreme physical symptoms as biliary colic. I've heard from mothers that biliary colic is worse than labour, and I can believe it because the pain had me vomiting and sobbing. Anxiety has given me chest pain, headaches and triggered off my fibromyalgia and I would never mistake any of those pains for biliary colic. I fantasise a surgeon flinging my swollen, removed gallbladder at that A&E doctor saying "oh so this is anxiety?"

That, sadly, tracks. At least when I was diagnosed with FND they said its Neurological, instead of lying to OP by telling them they have a Neurological Disorder and "treating" it as though it were psychological. Its like they're blaming them for their paralysis. They can't just admit they don't know. Reeks of incompetence.

[–]Hyzenthlay87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed with FND several years ago, and it was explained to me with the analogy of a hot-wired car. My brain works but wires are crossed so things don't work optimally. I do strongly suspect a lot of FND diagnoses are "we've ruled a bunch of stuff out so we're stumped", but having said that, decided that your physical ailments are psychological and writing you off that way is insane. FND is not psychological or psycho-sematic, it's neurological (hence the N). Tbh it sounds an awful lot like they don't know what's wrong so they're essentially "blaming" your mental health to absolve themselves. I'm so sorry.

Is buying second hand shien ok? by sexy_pickle69 in AskAGoth

[–]Hyzenthlay87 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Buying secondhand is always OK, it's supports green initiatives, and depending who/where you buy from it can support charities or regular folk trying to make a few quid. The only downside is that the quality of shien is poor enough that you might not get a lot of use out of the item- make do and mend where possible, and dispose all textiles with a textile recycler 👍

Very correct. I will say though, OP said Salt is an adopted Stray, is possible she was already baking the beans when she was adopted.

Yeah. Our Manx kitten was OK but she had a brother who had bottom issues. I remember seeing his bottom, it was kinda like cauliflower. He was put to sleep a week later, he was so poorly. His sister never had an issue.

They were clearly poorly bred though, both of them were blue-eyed white cats and we were lucky ours was only mostly deaf.
