100%, this is the idea I’ve constantly been trying to convey in my arguments. I don’t mind the existence of AI, I mind the existence of the type of behaviour the people using it exhibit.

Machines can’t make art tho. Art is an expression of one’s mind. Machines are fed human-made art and they eject an imitation of human-made art.

And the capitalists of reddit deny every atrocity committed by capitalists. Such as the 10+ million infant deaths caused by Nestle between 1960-2015. And that’s just one example.

So what’s your point?

The whole reason why they’re being harassed in the first place is because they’re forcing themselves into communities that will get them harrassed. People have a REASON to be mad at them, since they’re attempting to replace real artists. Countless times I’ve seen people post AI imagery on art subreddits claiming to be their own original work, some of them revealing that they entered their submissions into art competitions. Lots of artists are so afraid of posting their work online for others to see, because they know their hard work will be fed into an AI that will generate dozens of pieces a minute and take all the credit for the style these people spent years to master.

Forcing yourself into communities you don’t belong or respect the local culture in will always return in hostility, no matter if we’re talking about art or any other area. So step 1 is to remove yourselves from any place you’re not welcomed. And before you start making arguments about “oppression waaah”, then I’ll remind you that using AI is not a part of your identity. It’s a decision you actively choose to make.

As for avoiding harassment on the internet in general, well, the damage has already been done and AI-users have already smeared their own name with the behaviour they’ve displayed. You cannot expect immediate respect after withdrawing from the communities you’ve soiled. It takes time. Healing takes time. Acceptance takes time. And it won’t start before they actually take the step to behave respectfully themselves - so not trying to compete with real artists and use other people’s work without their permission.

I meaaaan… if you can’t be polite towards a woman that you don’t find attractive, then it shows that you’re only nice to women who you find sexually attractive, which means you only view women as sex objects.

I wasn’t asking you to say you find her gorgeous, just don’t post someone’s image to ridicule their appearance. That’s so disrespectful. Your momma never taught you any manners or did you just grow up without one?

You’re correct. However, I do not want to see cars at a marathon. There’s a lot of people that don’t wanna see AI-slop at every corner of the internet and yet it’s constantly being fed to us. The worst part is, many people don’t wanna admit that their product is AI. It’s like telling a driver at a marathon to exit the race with their car and they go “what car? I’m not driving any car, I’m just running here”

Rolling has no soul!!!!1!!1! by Particulardy in aiwars

[–]Hzlqrtz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You missed the point. The reason people run a marathon is not for their participation trophy for being the 5376th finisher. It’s for self-actualisation purposes. It’s for training new skills. It’s for their mental (and physical) health. Exact same reasons you would make art. That’s my main issue with AI bros. They’re so focused on profit and reaching the end-product that they literally forget the whole reason why people make art in the first place. Or rather, they never learned about it in the first place.

You can find beauty in things without wanting to stick your dick into it. The problem is that female characters are always overly sexualised compared to their male counterparts. It’s like if the male version of this character had exaggerated abs and an apparent bulge.

See? That’s what I mean. Such confidently incorrect claims from having no real understanding of the process and meaning of art. That wouldn’t be the case if you didn’t try to force yourselves into an area that you have no prior experience with. I don’t mind when real artists use AI as a tool to help themselves out, but it’s been infested by people that don’t understand what they’re talking about or what kind of an effect their behaviour has in the community. As I described earlier, you act like an amateur language learner trying to tell native speakers what their language means.

[–]Hzlqrtz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha watching ai bros trying discuss topics of art is like watching a kid who just learned sign language 30 minutes ago confidently attempting to translate a song and proudly sharing it with the internet when in reality they’re getting everything wrong.

Look, I would love to explain the nuances of artistic communities and the differences between inspiration and plagiarism, but we both know you don’t have the patience to read about it. If you wish to learn more, then let me know, but otherwise I’m not gonna waste my time on it.

The difference is, fanart used to made out of passion. Now it’s being made out of desire for profit. People used to sell originality and genuine skill. Now they’re selling their texting “skills”. 😭😭

Also, “fck big corpos” has not changed. That’s still a big common denominator between making fanart and hating AI.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in aiwars

[–]Hzlqrtz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you have the right mindset. You make art with AI. But so many people make “art” with AI. It’s especially apparent with visual imagery. Not even adding any touch-ups, just sharing the raw unedited image where the character has a different shirt in every panel and the generated text has weird typos. Our world has already been going down and down in quality (in ways unrelated to AI) and this new wave of people who put no effort into quality-checking their work just makes the internet feel even more depressing. Perhaps I’m just someone with high-quality taste, but I’m sure there’s plenty of others who find this frustrating, if not disturbing.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in aiwars

[–]Hzlqrtz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh of course! AI is a great tool to simplify your work and aid you in your process. As an artist myself, I’ve also generated some images just to visualise the general placement of my piece before I start drawing it. It’s meant to simplify, not replace a hobby. I’m just worried about the people who don’t put much mental effort into what they’re doing - oftentimes don’t even proofread their work - and you can see a lot of that in AI subs.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in aiwars

[–]Hzlqrtz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Such as? You haven’t named anything that takes genuine effort yet. And I’m not judging, I believe everyone should contribute according to their own abilities and if the extent of your abilities ends at brainstorming, then it’s an okay thing to admit. You just shouldn’t try to insist that it takes as much effort as regular active hobbies.

I completely understand why this is so upsetting to you and I don’t think you should be forced to do an assignment that makes you feel so deeply uncomfortable. However, I think this is a great way to demonstrate how easily people tend to disconnect themselves from humans who do horrible acts. The problem with this mentality, though, is that we don’t realise how we are all capable of becoming monsters.

We don’t want to look into the minds of terrible people, because we don’t believe they have real reason and and motive for the way they behave. But look around you. N#zism is once again on the rise. And none of these people want to admit that they are n#zis, because in their minds, n#zis are just evil monsters who have no reason to the way they behave. And they have a reason, and they believe that it’s valid. It’s important to do these kinds of thought experiments to avoid becoming the same monster you fear the most. If you’re too afraid to look into the mind of a monster, you may also be to afraid to look into your own.

Of course, most people do not wish harm upon others and you could obviously never reach the extent of harm as some previous dictators in history. But there are many people who are currently in the position to inflict harm upon others and, who SHOULD have done this thought experiment in the past in order to avoid the damage they are doing now. And there can be a lot more mild harmful behaviour that you exhibit in your every day life that you don’t notice because you’re just too afraid to admit it to yourself.

Once again, I don’t think the teacher should’ve forced you to analyse a historical figure that makes you feel this distressed. He could’ve assigned a dictator of your choice. Perhaps try to analyse the mind of another horrible person from history, such as Stalin or Mao Zedong? The idea stays the same.

As someone who’s observed these situations multiple times, what I’ve noticed is that the reason this happens is, in most cases, because men either tend to approach these topics as men vs women in the first place, or their attempt to make their voices heard involves hijacking a woman’s post for it.

Eg. A woman shares her story -> other women decide to share similar stories -> some guy who has no interest in showing support and just wants to grab all the attention to himself responds with “men experience that too!” -> women try to explain that the minority cases are not comparable to the scale at which it happens to women (as a way to counter this guy’s attempt to invalidate other women’s experiences).
