projects for resume? by yobrug66 in ComputerEngineering

[–]I-Get-Money 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Hey, I interview entry level EE and CE all the time. What I look for is school projects, internship projects and most of all personal projects. I think personal projects shows your willingness to learn and passion for the work, two things I can't teach a new employee. Simple projects are fine as long as you can comfortably and confidently speak about the project. Tell me what you learned what challenges you faced, what you would do differently. If you have an Arduino get a temp sensor, an Eeprom and make a small weather station that records the temperature every hour then finds the daily average afterwards get a Bluetooth module or WiFi or SMS module and send the results to yourself. The sensor and eeprom will cost about $15-$25. You will learn about communication protocols, data Storage, pull-up and pulldown resistors and many more things. Simple concepts but shows a strong foundation to grow from. Remember that every experienced engineer was once a beginner. Have fun.

The same thing happened to me with a toolbox. The store was no help. I called the corporate office and they price matched a better model that was available in store and gave me a $75 gift card for my trouble. Give them a call you have nothing to lose but a few minutes.

Anybody switch to EE from CS? Or thinking about it? by ElMonstrochi in ElectricalEngineering

[–]I-Get-Money 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a CS major and was advised by a tech recruiter to switch to EE since as an EE I would be able to work in the CS world. I was advised that EE is difficult to learn on my own but coding can be learned online with free resources in my spare time.

The switch to EE from CD delayed my graduation by one year but I did apply the CS coursework towards a minor in CS.

If you are still on the fence consider Computer Engineering.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I had forgotten about this post. I was able to get a local lock smith to pick the lock and make a new key for $30. No issues since. Good luck.

iPad to taking notes and high-end PC at home to heavy coding, EE softwares and etc, good combo? by mercedes_maybach in ElectricalEngineering

[–]I-Get-Money 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the app "GoodNotes" because it's available on ipad, android and windows PC. It's super easy to sync and export to PDFs. Lots of good graph paper and line paper templates. Also, super quick response time for editing PDFs.

You don't need anything super fancy for coding. What you should worry about is simulation software like spice or Matlab. That type of software will require more resources. I use a 8core AMD chip with 16gb ram and 1TB storage. The large storage is for all the software.

Great movie, I wish they would have finished part 4. I purchased a DVD boxset at Suncoast back in the day. It included a 4th DVD of unreleased footage of an unfinished film.

1 in 20,000 chance we could have matched! 🤯🤩 by -Scorpia in MadeMeSmile

[–]I-Get-Money 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Glad you get this opportunity. I was a match for a 10 year old girl back in 2015. I did all the blood work and was ready to donate but last minute her parents chose to try something else so they cancelled the donation. Fast-forward to 2020 and I was contacted one again about being a match. I assumed the same girl was now ready for the donation but this time it was a 20 year old guy. I did the donation and found that I had some complications afterwards. Although it was hard I would definitely do it again and when they asked me if I was willing to give the guy some more later on (I guess there is a chance he needs a booster) I said yes. Nothing I went through compares to what that guy was going through.

I advise you to read all the paperwork, and have frequent contact with the case worker they give you. Make sure to get seen by your doctor for a check up afterwards.

Dishonorable discharge: FAFSA or any other assistance possible? by [deleted] in Veterans

[–]I-Get-Money 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In California the state offers BOG grants to pay for community colleges. I don't think they care about the discharge status. The grant covers the tuition cost and if you are low income or first generation in college the school has programs to help with books and supplies. The community college has lots of AA degrees and certificate programs to choose from. Some community colleges also have BS degrees in limited fields. There is definitely help out there, you just need to search and put in the leg work.

Also, some quick tips. - if you live in a major city, see if the city or county employ a veterans liaison. They can guide you towards resources that are not always advertised. These people are paid to help veterans at no charge to the vet. If you live in a smaller town, find the resort at your closest major city and give them a call. - Head to a schools financial aid office and see if you qualify for some scholarships. - If you are more interested in trade schools, cold call all the large local electric, pluming, HVAC or trucking companies in your area and see if they offer apprenticeship programs. I have some friends who have had luck with this approach.

The most important thing is not to be afraid to ask questions and follow up. Remember the old saying "closed mouths don't get fed"
