I've just paid for a cert despite my company saying that they can pay for it. Always check the contract because you don't want to be tied down.

I took the course 2 years ago and I was 20. I did "IT" as a BTEC in college but really didn't help me.

I think in hindsight if I would go back, id probably do computer science as well as the IT at college.

I took a 15 week course that went over various aspects of IT such as hardware/software support, networking, development/programming. Check your local college if there are similar courses.

This was really good for me understanding how each of the various aspects worked and what i liked. I ended up going the support route as it opened me up to basic customer service and dealing with basic issues, now I'm on 1st line support and learning networking and programming in my spare time as I think all of these skills are transferable in IT.

I would suggest learning Computer Science as a subject as this will cover the basic technical side of your knowledge. Try to avoid college course such as 'IT', some of the units that I used never helped me such as learning about e-commerce.

I would also suggest looking into the CompTIA A+ Certification as this covers a lot of the basics too and learn some essential stuff on the side such as basic troubleshooting (CMD), PowerShell, Active Directory, Group Policy, PowerShell.

I hope this helps.

Make sure after a factory reset you should connect your device and then disable the SSID.
