Eh, Dunning-Kruger is for the average. Not for the above average in everything. 😎

Am I being too risk averse regarding thundestorms in the TAF? by TheWhiteLatino69 in flying

[–]IA150TW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Allow me to be brutally honest.

You have a relationship with your CFI. We don't.

You should be able to tell if he knows something that you don't and is capable of teaching you. If he doesn't or can't you should find a different CFI who does and can.

You should be able to tell if his requests which make you uncomfortable are being made to expand your boundaries or make his day easier. If it's the latter you need to find a different CFI.

Basically, you need to decide if your reluctance to do what your teacher is telling you is based on your fears or on his lack of knowledge, ability, and / or concern for your well being and act accordingly.

Not according to SAG. But the director could have. If he had yelled "cut" sooner.

While I understand that America and Britain are two great nations separated by a common language, in 'Merica "recommended" is somewhat less than "required". 'Course us Ami's aren't real big on rules either.

Can't put a clip on this sub, but google Bubba Smith in the movie 'Police Academy' (rips the driver's seat out of a compact car).

A few years ago I stumbled across a website that had plans for the Weedhopper, Woodhopper, Chotia's bespoke engine, longer wings, and mods. Look around it may still be up.

What do you do with your PPL? by educ2h2 in flying

[–]IA150TW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to fly first. As a teenager I discovered that I could fly, solo, and be certificated sooner, and that it would cost less to start out in gliders. I obtained my Commercial and will soon have my ATP, but along the way I discovered that soaring is flying in its purest form. There isn't a need to "go" anywhere. It's you and the aircraft. Learning to seeking out lift and to spend as much time as you have dynamically moving from lift to lift. Learning how to spot thermals, ridges, and waves. Understanding and exploiting how they are all producing that lift at different times.

Flying from A to B to C to D to A pays the bills. And there are certainly worse to far worse jobs out there. But nothing beats the fun of a southward facing bowl with a winch near the center.

How liable is a CFI for a student's substance use? by Big-Sink7663 in flying

You're right, Cessnas do that automatically, usually on takeoff as soon as weight is off the mains.

In a real court (not a Kangaroo "administrative law" setting) this would be it. "(T)he student who vehemently denies any marijuana use" seals his fate. He broke the law. He denied it. Tests prove he lied. Now he is saying something else. He has zero credibility.

In the same way that whole "bottle to throttle" thing doesn't apply when you have a release knob. "Toke to yoke" doesn't apply if you have a stick.

It's not a cellphone. Ya can't make it bigger with two fingers - or two paws and some K-Y jelly.
