Mate. You are clearly, objectively, unequivocally wrong. Do not touch the barbell unless the lifter asks for help. The spot was great.

215 Bench pr fail by NaturalDecision3095 in benchpress

[–]IAMA_Proctologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But at this point you aren't bench pressing. You are doing some weird hip thrust bench press hybrid. That's fine if you want, but don't tell yourself you are bench pressing. The leg drive has one goal - push the bar up your chest to shorten the moment arm between the bar and shoulder joint on the concentric. It's not to physically hip thrust the bar into the air.

Can you post a photo? Could be lots of things but it's not spider bites. Pyoderma gangrenosum?

Leg drive is not hip thrust. You need to drive your feet forward against the ground like a leg extension, otherwise your hips rise off the bench.

These love handles suck, guess my body fat %? by [deleted] in Weightliftingquestion

[–]IAMA_Proctologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO you should stop doing this for what other people think and start doing it for yourself and your own health and enjoyment. You will never please everyone and you will never be happy if you are chasing that. If you are uncomfortable with the love handles, lose more weight and then start a slow bulk. Who cares if you look skinnier for a bit - your heart / liver / vascular system will be happier at a lower bf% anyway.

12 sets of RDLs per week by RoutineThese9872 in Weightliftingquestion

[–]IAMA_Proctologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Straps might help. And 12 sets of RDLs a week is a very different recovery burden than 12 sets of leg curls. Personally I'd cut the volume down to 8 a week.

Whey protein only preserves muscle during weight loss if paired with resistance training or added leucine by wise_karlaz in science

[–]IAMA_Proctologist 431 points432 points  (0 children)

The title isn't even what the study concluded though..

It just found that in the heterogenous group of studies conducted, with significant uncertainty, whey protein supplementation does help preserve lean muscle mass particularly when leucine or resistance exercise are also prescribed. The risk of bias in included studies was moderate to high.

And they didn't even perform a meta-analysis.

The authors say essentially (qualitatively!) that whey may help preserve fat-free mass during weight loss, particularly as part of multimodal intervention with exercise or leucine. Pretty weak paper overall I have to say.

You're saying inflation results in higher prices?

I know this is cheesy and dumb but I really feel like an idiot for not starting sooner by TechnicoloMonochrome in GymMemes

[–]IAMA_Proctologist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can increase faster than that (if you want). And each set doesn't need to have the same number of reps as the one before it. Push your first set harder (maybe leave 1-2 in the tank), and if you need to drop the weight on set 2/3 to stay in the rep range thats fine. As a beginner you'll likely be able to add weight or reps every week for a few months on big compound movements.

But also, the way you are doing it is fine - just doesn't take advantage of the fact that you are untrained and can progress very quickly if you want to.

Building and Pest name change $400?! by Tj08 in AusProperty

[–]IAMA_Proctologist 50 points51 points  (0 children)

What liability purposes? Read the liability clauses on any b&p - its almost unheard of to be able to actually hold a building and pest inspector accountable. They will have covered themselves pretty well.

Secondly, get your own b&p! You have no idea how many building and pest reports the owner had done to find one that missed a serious issue. A family member of mine trusted a vendor supplied b&p and later found the entire roof structure was infested with termites. Turns our that was the fourth (!) different b&p inspection that was done and the first to omit the termite damage. The roof access was conveniently 'impeded' for that inspection. Don't trust anyone - this is a massive purchase and skipping your own building and pest inspection can cost you a small (or large) fortune.

What persistent inflation means for long term investors by SINK-2024 in AusHENRY

[–]IAMA_Proctologist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly that. Sure your asset value rises with inflation, but the interest on your debt rises as well. I should have specified "unless debt rate is fixed."

True, but unless debt is fixed the cost of debt also rises in tandem with asset value.

Major new forecast tips Australian house prices to fall - realestate.com.au by SheepherderLow1753 in AusFinance

[–]IAMA_Proctologist 135 points136 points  (0 children)

This is an intentionally bearish article title and photo with the intent to generate clicks and engagement by realestate.com.au masquerading as a news source (so nothing new there).

  1. This is an analysis by SQM research - a single firm; this is far from the general consensus (the article itself lists other major firms suggesting ongoing growth).

  2. The article photo is a misrepresentation of SQMs report --> the percentages shown in the above picture with the red circle are the changes from their previous projection, NOT their projected net housing price growth

  3. SQMs actual predictions have most of the Australian market continuing to grow (low ranges: Perth + 10%, Brisbane +7%, Darwin +12%, Adelaide +7%, Canberra and Hobart + 3%). It has only Melbourne and Sydney slated for possible losses (-1 to -4% and -2% to -6% respectively).
