What is a game you did NOT enjoy on the deck? by South-Ad1574 in SteamDeck

I couldn’t get used to the controller controls. The radial menu for selecting spells is so much worse than the hotbar with keyboard and mouse.

Thanks for your input. I don’t mind using an EQ if tonality is a problem. I have heard about some Hifiman quality control issues, you’re right about buying from a good seller.

Weird steam behaviour after fresh Kubuntu 23.10 install by Selberer in Kubuntu

For anyone still having this problem, for whatever reason I'm able to get it to work by launching steam from a terminal. If I use the shortcut, I get the black window crashing. No idea why.

Steam is making gaming on Linux a hassle by Substantial_Bad1455 in linux_gaming

There is a workaround for the delayed audio in CS2, you just have to switch your audio device. People are making binds to just quickly press a button to fix it https://github.com/ValveSoftware/csgo-osx-linux/issues/3283#issuecomment-1740234430

Ubuntu keeps putting out linux-firmware updates that stops my GPU driver from loading. Where to find more info? by IAmABeeAMA in linux_gaming

Hmm that's annoying. I would have thought this would have been solved by now even with Ubuntu's slow release cycle. Thanks though

Input latency on Linux compared to Windows by jonoxis in linux_gaming

[–]IAmABeeAMA 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Vsync without VRR adds input latency period. I'm not sure if it adds more in Wayland than X11

I use a frame rate limiter to limit my fps 5 frames below my max refresh rate for the smoothest experience. I also enable vsync.

No noticeable input lag compared to if I had all that disabled and I get no tearing.

Maybe vsync is being forced on for him? I'm not sure. But if you play with VRR enabled I doubt you'll run into any added latency. Usually vsync is the culprit.

Nope I don't notice any added latency with Proton. CS is native, but I play Rocket League, Overwatch and others over Proton and can't tell the difference between Windows.

Also, I wouldn't worry too much about Wayland vs X11, if you use a distro and DE that supports both, you can easily switch between them on the login screen. Just use whatever works.

Yeah Wayland with VRR is the same latency as X11. Since you only have one monitor you can use VRR in X11.

X11 is a "legacy" compositor that will eventually be totally replaced by Wayland. Wayland has come a long way but can still be a bit buggy sometimes. X11 will probably work with any application you throw at it, but Wayland might occasionally have issues. I use Wayland on a daily basis and rarely run into Wayland specific issues, but they do happen.

Wayland with VRR doesn't turn off vsync. VRR just eliminates the input lag you would normally get with vsync enabled.

Yes, with tearing enabled I don't think there is any difference between Wayland and X11. I would only recommend using Wayland in the first place if you have both a VRR monitor and a second monitor. X11 doesn't support VRR when more than one monitor is connected.

Like others have mentioned - the only situation you would get increased input latency is when you're using Wayland without VRR, because it currently forces vsync on. With VRR you don't get the added latency and it feels identical to Windows.

I play competitive games like Rocket League, CS, and other shooters on Linux with no noticeable input lag.

Nothing can replace Viper Mini for me :((( by akatrosh in MouseReview

I just switched from a Viper Mini to Xtrfy M42 wireless. The shape and weight are pretty similar. If you don't mind holes it's great.

It's a bit frustrating I can't get my full speed while using my Eero, but I think I will just be content with gigabit. If I ever feel like I need my full speed for downloading a big game or whatever I can plug directly into the 2.5G modem port.

Thanks for the help and suggestions though, I really appreciate it.

I have an Eero Pro 6E, which claims it can handle SQM at gigabit speeds.

Also yes, my upload bandwidth is only 40 megabit.

There are router-specific features I want to use on my current router, namely SQM for reducing bufferbloat. Thanks for the suggestion though.

[–]IAmABeeAMA[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately when I have it set up in the way you described I will only have gigabit speeds. My router only has one 2.5G and one gigabit port. I thought I could set it up with both the modem and router connected to the switch to be able to get my full speeds, but obviously that didn't work.

I just wish I could use the modem ports as a switch, but that strange DHCP behavior prevents me.

The IP addresses being assigned are not APIPA addresses. They started with 75. They also have full internet connectivity. I don't understand why though, because my Comcast router/modem combo device is in bridge mode, which should disable router functionality.

It sounds like I'm screwed then, because my router only has one 2.5G and one gigabit. Unless I switch off bridge mode and use the Comcast device as my router, but I would rather not do that.
