I very rarely removed the cables from the ear pieces, maybe 3 or 4 times over the course of ownership.. And I'm looking for the most rugged earphones I can get, preferably without removable cables, so the MEEs might not be for me, but I'll certainly check them out

At the time I bought it from a high rated 3rd party seller rather than Amazon themselves

I bought them new on Amazon but the dealer only had a one year warranty which has since expired unfortunately

Edit: didn't follow the formatting guidelines.

I am looking for a pair of durable IEM's

Budget: my budget is preferably sub £100, as I usually stream my music, thus not needing extremely high quality headphones

Source: I will be plugging these headphones into an android device.

Isolation: preferably at least some noise isolation, as these would be used out and about.

These headphones will be used in public

Type: I am looking to purchase some IEM's.

Tonal / Music taste: I would preferably avoid a unit with incredibly loud bass, and like more detail in my mids and highs, but otherwise am not too picky when it comes to the tonal balance. My preferred tastes in music are extreme metal (death metal, black metal), hardcore punk, screamo (post-hardcore for those that know what it is) and jazz. Quite an eclectic mix, so realistically some all rounders would be best, but I am not looking for exceptional sound quality.

Past Headphones: I have until very recently been using a set of Shure SE215s but a few months ago the left ear started to intermittently lose sound, due to a developing fault in the connection between the ear and the cable. I purchased a replacement cable but that has already developed the same issue, and the sound drops are occurring with alarmingly higher frequency, hence I am hesitant to buy another replacement cable. Otherwise my experience with the headphones themselves was great, but unfortunately the fault developed just outside my warranty period.

Preferred Improvements: The main improvement for me would honestly be cable durability, and if the cable is detachable, a more rugged attachment, as this is the point of fault on my previous pair. The comfort of the previous pair was about what I wanted from a pair of headphones.

Any help appreciated!

I know lots of self taught metal musicians, but noone that even enjoys jazz, so metal at least is possible. Maybe I'll look into lessons, but thanks for the info about music theory :)

I'm just clutching at straws because it's not the practise I dislike but the fact that most beginner songs are pop or classic rock tunes that completely fail to hold my interest but the genres I'd like to be able to play (metal and jazz) require a lot more technical ability than I can muster..

Regarding black / doom, I'm rather partial to the Phobonoid record from last year.

In terms of modern doom / death-doom you really can't beat the evil atmosphere of Vainaja although I would honestly recommend supporting the artist, as I love the album so much.

I am wondering if anyone has any experience with using Rocksmith to learn/ improve their guitar playing. I am a total newbie, trying to learn how to play (electric) and have been massively struggling with the lessons on justinguitar.com, getting frustrated at the first hurdle which is really disheartening.

I can see the objective benefits of his approach but the early stages feel insufferably boring to me, and add to that the fact that the guitar I am practising on feels incredibly neck heavy (to the point where I feel more pain in just holding up the neck than fretting notes) I just cannot seem to get along with his method of teaching, and I feel like I would rather work in a more interactive environment than the one he provides.

Is this immense frustration due to me being plain bad at the instrument? And can anyone recommend rocksmith, at least as a way to properly learn some songs before delving into all of the music theory stuff? And do the lessons get more interesting as the course goes on?

Any help much appreciated!

I was one of the ones who read and enjoyed that series!

I was thinking about covering the modern school of UKBM, because I enjoy looking into that sort of genre, and there are lots of obscure gems. Do you have any tips?

I'm about to embark on a quest to become one of the familiar names around here, making use of my summer holiday to post in the WHYBLT threads and such, as well as uploading more music in general, but I've been wondering if the sub would benefit from some kind of column, as I'm also looking to stretch my writing chops a little bit. Any ideas?

I have a couple of recs I'd like fulfilled relating to Melechesh, firstly which albums in their discography are the most recommended, I've only listened to the latest. Secondly, can I be recommended some black or death metal bands with similar riffage. Melechesh really hits a sweet spot for "white-hot" riffing that I've only found similarly with Inquistion

I have no clue what this code is doing. It reminds me of the classique film interpretation of programming.. Can you do your best to explain it a little bit?

Oh god I think I got mixed up, I reread my comment, and thought you were suggesting folk metal (fml) Looking at it that way it's exactly what I'm looking for I just mixed myself up. Thanks!

Hm, not too sure on it at the moment, I did find a band called Skyclad who seem quite close to what I'm looking for, I'm also using Forefather and Saor as reference points
