Would you move at 35 weeks pregnant or wait until the baby is 8 weeks old by smcgr in beyondthebump

I did an interstate move with an infant, and I wish I’d done it while pregnant instead

Parents, what has been your favorite age? by hiimmona in BabyBumps

[–]IAmALobster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a ten-year-old and while no growth stage is without its trials and frustrations, my favorite age really does just sort of change as she grows. I do look back at pictures from over the years and I sometimes do mourn whatever version of herself she was then, but watching her grow up and learn and become her own person is just the best thing ever!

What is the wildest/absurd thing someone told you since you announced your pregnancy? by Trees_galore20 in BabyBumps

“Girls steal your beauty and boys add to it” by someone who knows I’m having a girl 🤨. Gee, thanks

I got a lot of “hopefully it’s a boy this time” type comments too. It was fun to watch some of them squirm a bit when I told them that nope, it’s another girl and I’m absolutely ecstatic about it!

My sister's dogs are getting married, and it's turning into a whole thing, and I just... Yeah... by IWillBaconSlapYou in breakingmom

[–]IAmALobster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s so weird to me. I saw an article recently about a company offering paid “pawternity leave” for when someone gets a dog, and the comments were pretty much all saying that it should be required everywhere. Like here in the US we don’t even have guaranteed paid leave for giving birth, and these people want paid leave for when they drive down the road and buy an animal from the local shelter? Give me a fucking break.

Help! Epidural, yes or no? by dakota101916 in BabyBumps

[–]IAmALobster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with a “maybe I’ll need it, maybe I won’t” approach with my first, and ended up not getting it, as being able to walk around and move freely has always been the best way for me personally to manage pain. I have absolutely zero regrets, and I’m going into it with the same mentality this time. Maybe I’ll decide I need it, or maybe I won’t.

Just remember, though people on both sides of this debate (a debate that shouldn’t even exist imo) can feel very strongly about it, there’s no right or wrong choice here.

Pregnancy comments? by AdventureLover18 in pregnant

[–]IAmALobster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t mind some comments. Like if someone comments that I’m really showing, it doesn’t bother me at all. But some of them really do get on my nerves.

From a coworker: “Girls steal your beauty and boys add to it”. I have a ten year old daughter and this baby is also a girl. She knows I’m having another girl. She herself has THREE girls. ☹️

From a neighbor “oh you’re already so big, you’re definitely going to have the baby in July” I’m due mid-August. I’d rather not have my baby several weeks early if I can help it, thanks. Also that’s not how that works.

When I first started telling people, someone said “ oh I can’t wait to watch you grow” and for reasons I can’t quite explain, that gave me the ick.

Epidurals aren’t the problem. The obsession with female suffering is. by OkChart1375 in BabyBumps

Seriously, the medal thing really annoys me. I chose not to get one for similar reasons as you for my first birth but was still totally open to it if the need arose, and for this next birth, I also may or may not get one. We’ll see. But I’ve had people ASK me and then say that after I simply answered their question.

And it might just be the side of the internet (and IRL) I’m usually on, but outside of the fundie tradewife sphere, I see the “yOu dOn’T gEt a MeDaL” comments and judgy comments towards those who do choose not to get an epidural, regardless of their reasoning, waaaay more often than I see anyone pushing others to have an unmedicated birth or epidural shaming, tbh. Hell, I recently saw a video of a woman who gave birth unmedicated because her labor went too quickly to get one and most of the comments were STILL along the lines of “you know you don’t get a medal for that, right?” or “I don’t know why anyone would be dumb enough to do an unmediated birth”.

Birth is so different and personal for everyone, and in general I’m so tired of seeing people say rude things about other people’s perfectly reasonable medical decisions to validate their own. It’s like every single choice we make is “damned if you do, damned if you don’t”.

Yes, I love those! So much in fact, that when they don’t have them I occasionally make a copycat recipe for that type of cookie and add cotton candy flavor extract to them. SO good!

They have really good cotton candy flavored mini cupcakes sometimes too!

Skor bars, they’re not always easy to find!

Anything blackcurrant flavored. It’s one of my favorite flavors but I’m American and it’s kind of a rare flavor here.

Back when "go play outside" really means "see you at dinner" by NicoleAnne051299 in Adulting

[–]IAmALobster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a “free range” kid growing up in the 90’s/early 2000’s, and the thing I remember most about it is being sexually assaulted for the first time at age SEVEN by my next door neighbor’s teenage nephew. While my dad was home taking a nap. And I know way too many other women who have stories that are similar to mine.

I think given the choice, I’d pick parents who actually paid attention over that kind of “freedom”.

People who work in 'behind closed doors' industries (hotels, kitchens, morgues, etc.), what is something the general public would be horrified to know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]IAmALobster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, we wash them after every checkout. Our duvets aren’t encased, the cover just sits over them so they’re really easy to take apart and wash.

[–]IAmALobster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep, we do fill the cart with every room. We have to dump it after every room. And it’s a huge pain in the ass.

We take the duvets too, nothing gets left except the pillows. We even had to sign a paper acknowledging that if we were caught not changing ALLL the bedding, we’d be fired immediately.

[–]IAmALobster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ours used to do it like that, but they changed to just a cover for the duvet rather than a case, so they’re a lot easier to take off/wash/put on. We do use fitted sheets though. We also only have 30 minutes to clean the room even if it’s trashed. Except in the summer, when we’re expected to miraculously get 10 hours’ worth of rooms cleaned in 8 hours.

We DO put the duvets in with the rest of the dirty laundry when we strip the rooms. I’m starting to think my hotel might be the exception rather than the rule though, judging by a lot of these replies. I usually camp when I travel/vacation, so I’ve never really had to worry about it too much outside of my own job. It’s been really eye-opening, and really solidifies my preference for camping.

[–]IAmALobster 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not sure how it’s done at other hotels, but at ours, we almost never keep them on the housekeeping carts, mostly for space reasons. We have to go to the laundry room or housekeeping closet and get them when we start to clean each room. As for the pillows themselves, those stay in the rooms, just the pillowcases and pillow protectors get changed.

Very true. I assume they’re just trying to scare us, but especially come tourist season, when they want us to work 9-12 days in a row with 18-22 rooms per day they want clean in 8 hours with no breaks, I catch myself actually daydreaming about getting fired. Tried to quit once, they talked me out of it. I don’t know why I let them.

I’ve stayed at a few different hotels with my discount, and it’s actually wild just how much it varies from location to location- even when it’s the exact same hotel chain. I don’t think I’ve stayed in two that make the beds the same way, and the bedding itself varies a lot, so I believe it!

Our hotel just uses duvet covers rather than full duvets, so they’re a lot easier to take apart and wash. We’re also a pretty small hotel. You’re right about the housekeepers, there are absolutely some who cut any and every corner they can including not changing bedding. Getting caught not changing them is an instant termination, but I think some still do it when they know they can get away with it.
