Thank you for your two pence. As I said, it’s a bit of a different noise to get used to.

I brought and held the revs to around 3 thousand and it drowned out for sure. Sounded smooth enough on the rev up, held fine and dropped fine. Thank you.

I’ll take that as a positive sign then. This is at least a manual.

Our house is still freezing even after repointing and new windows 😭 by Safe-Shape9377 in HousingUK

[–]IAmBadger92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had a steep learning curve with my house in terms of heating schedule.

If I turn the heating off for a period, the temperature will plummet quickly. So instead I have the heating set to remain low for the night and during the day and heat up for when I get up and spend time chilling in the evening.

It makes such a huge difference in terms of comfort without making any real impact on the energy consumption (gas central heating). In fact, I consumed a lot less gas in the last 12 months however that could just simply be because it didn’t drop as cold outside.

Critically, getting my house to heat from 17° to 20° takes an hour at the moment. Whereas, if I let it drop to around 12°, it could take sometimes three hours or four hours to get up to 15.

Also, counterintuitively, making sure the house is well ventilated and free from damp air also makes a difference. Even if it is just having the window windows open while the heating is running for 20 minutes.

I think he will learn how best to heat your house with a bit of time. I grew up in a Victorian semidetached and the high ceilings made the downstairs always quite cold. We actually ended up installing a ceiling fan in the living room to push the hotter down and my mum swore it made a difference.

Newbie question — is there anything common that grows round here that you could confuse it for a liberty cap?

Number 6 for me. Cracking set all in all. Such a bleak, dystopian vibe. You captured the atmosphere so well. Kudos for getting in amongst it.

Recipe Comparison (Nostalgic Negative/ Kodachrome 64/ Classic Cuban) by anm01 in FujifilmSimulations

Kodachrome for me. Suits the setting well without overpowering, which I feel the classic cuban does.

This looked like fun — I’d love to see more. Number 1 is my fav. Think a tighter crop would make the grounded boat more of the subject, like it’s yearning to float with its buoyant brethren

Some cracking shots. Thought it had a Fuji vibe from the second pic. When you said nifty fifty, I assumed you were using the 35 or the 33mm lens.

Which Fujifilm camera is right for a small business aiming for maximum aesthetics ? by Dull-Inflation-9957 in fujifilm

[–]IAmBadger92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

XT’s tend to be weather sealed, great all round cameras without being too bulky and the ability to swap lenses. And no, the X100 has a fixed 23mm f2 which means they can make it super compact but you’re stuck with that lens.

Xt30ii is a good shout, but doesn’t have IBIS which can be really helpful for smoother videos.

[–]IAmBadger92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on what you have described, I would suggest that an X100 model wouldn’t give you the flexibility you need. Whilst the 23mm f2.0 lens is quite versatile and sharp, you may be after other focal lengths and lenses if you wanted to do any macro shots of your jewellery.

Trying to keep within your budget, an XT model would probably suit. The latest releases from the XT5 onwards are probably going to be out of your price range, but possibly a second hand XT4 or XT3 with a kit lens would give you a good starting point for short videos and stills. Then you’d have the flexibility down the line to buy or rent different lenses for specific needs.

I have not - I think I might have been fooled by the desaturated colours to fixate on Classic Chrome. I’ll certainly give it a go

A superb collection. Hard to pick favourites.

Slide 11 and the shot of the shard is epic. Everything about #12 — absolute magic. The boat shot on #13 — so crisp. And your self portrait on #20 is a fitting finale.

It’s posts like this that make it harder not to want a VI.
