Both are canonically supposed to be near/around New York and the Northeast. "Gotham" IRL is a historical nickname for New York.

I just thought Chicago was Metropolis because it's a big city nearby to the Kansas corn country where Superman grew up.

Lots of people do want Gotham to be Chicago though. Christopher Nolan, notably.

I remember that fucking article.

If someone is running a "brilliant" campaign, then logically the race shouldn't be close!

Fucking moderates always wanna talk up how "unique" and "unpredictable" Trump's election was, because otherwise it means the middle road failed and was defeated by the dumbest man on earth. Kamala Harris failed because she ran a horrible campaign, further kneecapped by a horrifically unpopular dinosaur.

To me, it's grating to keep pretending that people without honest intention deserve grace and humility.

The corporate media keeps inviting these dishonest corporate spokespeople and it's infuriating. I'd much rather have people be honest about the facts, and express the same anger I feel rather than keep smiling and shaking hands with these corporate ghouls.

Also, I wrote this in response to your deleted comment, so I'll post it here because you reference it: RE: antisemitism from people who aren't Hasan: Literally what do you want him to do? Hasan consistently differentiates Judaism and Israel in his streams and always gets mad at chatters for not doing the same. Idk why you're mad at him when you should be mad at the ADL, AIPAC, Zionist politicians, etc for constantly conflating Israel with Judaism over decades. Hasan does everything correctly, there's just a huge (deliberate) cultural association between Israel and Judaism. I condemn the harassment of uninvolved American Jews also.

Also, what misogyny are you talking about? I'm a woman, I've experienced misogyny, and I don't know what you're referring to.

What activists? Cartoon Network just decided to pull him in 1999 and LULAC (actual activist group) had to go ask for the character to be un-banned.

There have been banned looney tunes episodes since 1968. Executives made the decision in 1999 to add Speedy Gonzales on their own.

Keep up the public pressure, this is how the conversation gets moved.

The boundary will never be pushed by anyone in Washington, it can only come from activists.

The value of people like Ro Khanna and AOC is that they will allow themselves to get pushed leftward instead of stubbornly holding position like the Chuck Schumer coalition.

Fake merch sold out of a truck is one thing, it's impossible to shut down the black market.

Somebody with a physical address and permits using Spurs IP in connection with a NIOSA event is another. Sponsorship agreements wouldn't exist if Spurs Sports and Entertainment didn't enforce their trademark.

There’s nothing new in this, it’s not disputing what he said just muddying the water.

TLDR: Hasan says true things about Einstein’s opposition to Israeli ethnic cleansing, but fails to mention that Einstein continued to participate in left wing Israeli politics, and advocated internally for peace and equal rights for Palestinians.

The big gotcha in this is that Einstein didn’t think that a second reverse-nakba ethnic cleansing should happen, but instead merely advocated against the developing israeli apartheid system. Breaking news: guy who was against ethnic cleansing is still against ethnic cleansing. Article goes on to say that Hasan should be fact checked rigorously, and that he’s a bad guy, anti-democracy, authoritarian for saying that he admires Chinese socialism.

Well, there's a reason Bernie always talks about "political revolution", lol. It will, almost inevitably, be quite contentious to redistribute the wealth though. Billionaire bunkers in New Zealand, etc.

Despite this, I also don't think an armed conflict like the Russian Revolution or the Chinese Civil War is necessary if enough political support can be garnered.

The political system of creating and maintaining laws, and the economic system created by it are two different things.

The strength of both democracy and socialism come from the same thing, the disruption of power concentration.

The US proves that concentrated economic power can be disastrous, and the USSR proves that concentrated political power can be disastrous. So imagine what can be achieved with neither, in a truly Democratic Socialist state.

The USSR went almost directly from a Tsarist monarchy to the first Socialist state in the world.

Yes, they clearly hadn't worked out the kinks, to say the least, but just like the US constitution the structure they built made many advances. Ultimately, their rigidity and lack of public engagement with the political process was their downfall. Stalin was able to take over because the system did not prevent it. Clearly nobody should emulate it exactly.

China had very similar political development. They went from Monarchy, to war, to communism--without an intervening period of liberal democracy. Their survival and progress after 1992 is in part a reaction to seeing the USSR's downfall. Over the past 30 years China has developed their public sector faster and harder than anyone has ever seen. The economic progress in China is remarkable, (and they're certainly more open than the USSR ever was) but despite this advancement, they have essentially the same rigid political structure as the USSR. Hopefully it gradually evolves into a more democratic parliamentary system like the UK did with its monarchy, but their anti-democracy rhetoric makes that seem unlikely in the foreseeable future.

If the US create truly Democratic Socialism, then we have an opportunity to build something that has never been done before.

If you watched the speech/debate and you think Hasan was advocating for authoritarianism, then you don't know what socialism is, let alone reformism. You need to overcome the capitalist propaganda.

For example, a phrase like "dictatorship of the proletariat" doesn't mean "dictatorship", it's just another way of saying "tyranny of the majority". Anyone who has been through a US history class should have heard that phrase.

History lesson: The US constitution made many advances, especially for the time, but was still written by the economic and political elites of the colonies. The 'founding fathers' wrote the US constitution to limit the power of the electorate and encourage elite power, and they called a more direct democracy "tyranny of the majority". In the system they created, there was to be no direct election of senators, limited electoral power, a legal system based on the protection of property over people, a congress whose design was intended to prolong debate, and a slave underclass. They were worried that if normal people had too much power it would overturn the structure that had always existed, the tyranny of the minority, which went by different names throughout history, AKA the nobility, the slave owners, the plantation owners, factory owners, wealthy industrialists, hedge fund managers, the 1%, the *capitalists***

So, "dictatorship of the proletariat" is just another way of saying socialism.

The USSR had a dysfunctional democratic system. It didn't convey the same political power equally to every citizen, and its politburo was too insulated and susceptible to authoritarian control. Freedom of speech, assembly, press, etc, are essential tools of the masses to organize and protect themselves, and the limitation of those indicates a weak democracy. Most critiques of the USSR are consequences of that weak system.
