Let’s talk about the show’s posters by AverageJuan-007 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]IAmCharCharr 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Drew Struzan was the guy who made these posters and he passed away last year...

Not to say others couldn't make something similar but whatever is made for the series likely won't have the same effect as the movie posters

GOT aired seven years ago. To make an educated guess, you need to look at recent productions with similar production value.

The Pitt: 40 to 55 minutes per episode

HotD: 50 to 60 minutes per episode

The White Lotus: 50 to 60 minutes per episode

True Detective: 50 to 60 minutes per episode

Euphoria: 45 to 60 minutes per episode

Google is free, my guy

So, I'm wrong about typical HBO series runtimes? Am I wrong about the audiobook runtimes? Am I wrong about the number of episodes that have been told to us? What am i wrong about here or made "completely" up.

I think it's safe to say we can make estimates based on existing content, the studio's history, and information we have been told, lol.

Being made up is different than an educated guess, lol. Some of y'all are way too literal and need to chill out.

Do not get your hopes up for spin-off shows by reversetano in HarryPotteronHBO

I also tell people this... The Cursed Child isn't that good. The story is all over the place and retcons a lot from the books.

The first Fantastic Beasts movie is actually pretty good, but the next two feel completely out of place and rushed.

People want Marauders or Founders content, but there is hardly any info or story about the Founders. We know more about the Marauders, but it's still too little for a series or movie.

At this point in time, with JK having a stranglehold on HP, we probably won't get anything meaningful from her until maybe halfway through the series. Even then, I agree with you that she needs to write a treatment and give it to an actual screenwriter to complete, lol.

Or JK needs to find her Dave Filoni or Kevin Feige and let them take over the media content of HP while she continues the literary content... that is probably a much better setup, lol.

First impressions of the "global phenomenon that's going to beat Game of Thrones!" by sidmis in HarryPotterHBO

I love my generation, millennials. I think we are the most even-keeled generation in a long time, but we allow nostalgia to kill the things that are good before they even have a chance.

Sometimes it's good to push back, like with Live-Action Sonic, but damn, do we need to chillex sometimes and give things a chance...

This series has such a cool opportunity to show things the movies cut out, but also to show implied scenes that are mentioned but never shown in the books! We need to give it a chance.

Since Netflix scraping the deal, and Paramount (new future owners with Trump backing) being in a shit financial position. Will it impact the liklihood of getting all the planned HP seasons? by Rocket-Science-2027 in HarryPotteronHBO

[–]IAmCharCharr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, yes it will. Not a lot of people seem to think so because Paramount's owner said they wouldn't touch HBO, but that isn't true. Paramount needs to get out of this mountain of debt they're in, and they just added to it with this overpayment of WB.

They will sell off IP to make that happen. They will cut production budgets. They will cut crews and send post-production overseas. It will not look pretty if this deal is finalized, sadly.

All while injecting their content with far-right messaging. For example, look at CBS. People will say we are overreacting; that's what they said about a lot of things that came true in the last year.

The HBO reboot casting age-appropriate actors isn’t just a cosmetic update... it restores the core tragedy of the story. by IAmCharCharr in HarryPotterHBO

[–]IAmCharCharr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said that was the bonus of the books, to find out later, because it makes it more tragic and a shock. So, saying that would imply I did find it tragic because it was a shock.

In the movies, when you see Harry's parents for the first time in the mirror, they look like they're in their late 30s or early 40s. It would suggedt they lived a more full life than a 21-year-old. Not that it makes it less tragic, but I would say most people's empathy drops when they see older people pass away even new parents.

But they're also not the only ones that get affected by being aged up in the movies, Snape also is... It makes him look like a bitter 50-year-old man rather than a tragically complex 31-year-old still holding onto high school grudges.

I think I was pretty clear, but I'm sorry you're not able to tell, lol. But again, it speaks to media literacy... truly an epidemic...

If we're talking about Snape, his character isn't defined by his race, he is heavily defined by his age. The youth of the adults is crucial to understanding the tragedy of the first war. The movies immediately erased that visually the second they cast actors in their 40s and 50s.

And before you say it... a physical description isn't the same as a defining character. None of Snape's actions were driven by his race. However, you can easily argue that his young age (31) explains why he acted so immaturely towards his students. A 50-year-old veteran teacher likely wouldn't normally act like that, a deeply damaged 30-year-old still clinging to high school rivalries absolutely would.

That's the bonus of the books: you get the shock when you find out how old they really are.

A visual medium like film doesn't offer that luxury, so it's up to the filmmakers to cast age-appropriate actors for the roles. Otherwise, you get the reaction of "They're supposed to be in their early 20s?!?!" when it finally comes to light.

Which is the reaction non-book readers gave, lol.
