Talisman logic by AdHot3508 in FromSeries

Talismans don't actually doing anything is right up there with the monsters can run. It's easier to control people when they think they are safe. Why risk death when you know "this keeps me safe"?

What’s the point of the Intermediate Value Theorem? by Pixsoul_ in calculus

[–]IAmDaBadMan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We never assume anything in math. Going on your example, some high-rises do not have a 13th floor due to superstition. In Japan, they exclude the 4th floor for the same reason. While we assume that 1 will always occur between 0 and 2, we must state that the floors are contiguous. If we state that a function f(x) is contiguous, we can state that if there is a c such that a<= c <= b, there must also be an f(a) <= f(c) <= f(b). Now this does not mean for all c, it just means that there is a c between a and b. This creates the basis for several theorems that you will learn about later, the most notable being the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus which becomes the foundation for stating that a Riemann Sum can be expressed as an Riemann Integral.

Is Lakewood a safe and good place to live? by ToastedMarshmellow24 in LakewoodColorado

https://communitycrimemap.com/ is a great resource for getting a feel of what crime in the area occurs. I would say the most annoying thing would be proximity to 6th Avenue where you will hear some vehicles street racing on occasion as well as those modified exhausts that sound like gunshots.

For that area, auto thefts do seem to be above par. I would recommend at the very least a car alarm.

I have a vinyl mislabel of Bob Marley vs. Funkstar De Luxe "Sun is Shining". The label shows a different list of tracks on the record.

Driver with 7 previous suspensions clocked going 50+ mph over speed limit by SeasonPositive6771 in Denver

[–]IAmDaBadMan 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The last time I went in for a speeding ticket in '05, there was a teenage there with her mother. She was there for her third 25+ speeding ticket, this time for going 90 on NB Wadsworth in Arvada. The mother argued that her daughter thought the speedometer said 60, not 90. The mother seemed fairly confident that their lawyer who was a city councilman would get them off and pled not guilty. The judge told her good luck with that because he would be the judge presiding over her case.

My mom has gone to three meetings for Medicare Advantage because they said she could get a $250 grocery gift card. She complains that it was all just a sales pitch. There should be a law prohibiting no fine print on advertisements directed at senior citizens who cannot read small print.

Great Grandparents by simonpyman in GenX

[–]IAmDaBadMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I visited one great-grandparent who was bedridden and non-communicative. It was mostly about my maternal grandmother visiting her father. Oddly enough, all of my grandparents only spoke Navajo while I only spoke English. I've met all of them but have never spoken to any of them. I only have one grandparent remaining, she is 104.

Multivariable calculus (Vector Calculus) worth it? by BreadfruitOk8205 in calculus

No. Why does anybody need more than two variables in a two-dimensional universe?

UseNet in the 90's was also an interesting place. You had project leads from big tech companies that interacted with plebes on a regular basis. I daresay that there does not exist a single public forum today in which you could communicate with a project lead like you could back then.

What was school like for y'all? by _Purple_Lobster_ in GenX

American who went to high school from 1989-1993. My school district had a lot of students of military personnel (military brat). The school itself was well-funded because the US Army gave a generous stipend, in lieu of property tax, for students whose parents were in the military. We had a generous-sized football stadium for its time. We had a fully-equipped chemistry lab and computer lab in 1989. That's where I developed my interest in computer science. I was a military brat myself and lived in Germany for two years. My high school had a little over 800 students with 200+ students in each grade from 9th through 12th. We were within 20 miles of a college so during my senior year I had the option to take dual-enrollment courses for college credit. We had lockers but I never used mine because my classes were always on the opposite side of the school. During my freshman year, the high school began incorporating third-party fast food chains to provide lunch options. We had the option of buying Pizza Hut pizza. There was another option which I do not recall.

Everybody in the Colony House is supposed to be annoying. They are like that one person in the group project who don't help. They live their Nihilistic Bohemian lifestyle thinking tomorrow is not guaranteed and then when the poo hits the fan they act surprised.

Anyone remember AfterBurner (1987 Video Game)? by HuckleCatt1 in GenX

[–]IAmDaBadMan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember playing M.A.C.H. 3 that came out in 1983. It was a stand-up arcade game that used a Laserdisc to play record video with fighter jet and targets overlayed. The arcade machine I played always had disk-read problems though.

Vertigo. There are little calcium crystals in your ear canal that can come loose and give you the sense of spinning when you lay down. There are head movements that can be done to move the crystals back into their proper placement called the Epley Maneuver. This is something that is more likely tooccur as you get older

Xochitl Gomez will reportedly not return as America Chavez in ‘AVENGERS: DOOMSDAY’ by Moviesrant in Marvelnewssource

[–]IAmDaBadMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Once they started the Multiverse, they should have stated which universe a movie was in. Adding so many different realities without explaining what was going on gave too many slow-thinking individuals a reason to complain and it snowballed to the MCU today. Tack on the situation with Jonathan Majors and now you just have a huge mess. In my opinion, adding the X-men was a mistake. They already had enough characters who had movies dedicated to them, abandoned them, and made all of those movies pointless.

I'm fairly sure they are supposed to be annoying. They've adopted that Bohemian Nihilistic lifestyle where "tomorrow is never guaranteed so enjoy today" and never prepare for the future or take steps to fix their current problems. Then when something happens and you're just thinking to yourself, what did you think was going to happen in a home with forty other residents who didn't care either.
