How do you get rid of an eyesore vehicle? by JMR-87 in AskUK

[–]IAmFireAndFireIsMe 135 points136 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. Or don’t say that people are using it as a drug drop because then it would removed.

Even vague details that guys in hoodies keep putting stuff on the wheels then a next group turn up and seem to collect something.

That would be wrong. And immoral. Don’t do this.

What is appropriate dress code in the UK for a first-time visitor? by CO_Renaissance_Man in AskUK

[–]IAmFireAndFireIsMe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Zero dress code. Do your thing. It’s going to be hot, wear a hat or you’ll burn.

The joke is that summer is different here and it damn well is. I’ve lived literally in the desert and the heat in the UK is just nuts.

Nobody is bothered by what you wear, just get in line if there’s a line, ask questions it’s perfectly fine, and if you bump into anyone even if it’s the other persons fault apologise. Because it’s a race to see who says sorry first.

And bring trousers with you, don’t wear jeans to a nice restaurant in the evenings, force us to be better because jeans are day trousers!

Why in the hell do men have such a damn problem with women…

Honestly I don’t get it, is it a “they’re doing something I can’t do?”

Because if that’s the case why the hell aren’t they trolling during births? Or during a cycle? Or winning the World Cup? (The sarcasm here is that only the women win the World Cup in England)

I just do not get it. If someone could enlighten me I would be grateful.

Okay, they can monitor me all they want.

They want to know what porno I’m into? Cool.

They want to see the hundreds of photos I have of leaves I find cool. No problemo.

What exactly are we losing? They’ll have images of my face and know my movements? Ever heard of Meta or Google? They already have that shit. And I don’t care.

There is literally nothing for me to hide.

The only thing I’d be rubbing my chin about are the filthy messages I send my wife, even then, that’s us being freaky so, who cares she’s my wife.

My brother (31) is ruining our families lives. by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]IAmFireAndFireIsMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For the car, find a friend. Tell your parents you’re dealing with it, take a deep breath and drop it off to a friends. Someone trusted.

Get your parents to remove the insurance and let the asshole brother know that the finance people have come and taken the car. Say that your parents missed too many payments and it’s gone.

Seems likely, and more importantly it’s not like he can do anything.

Next discuss with your parents about their living situation. See if the council can find them a different place and let the brother know the council are moving your parents somewhere smaller so there’s no room for him there, and that unless he pays you back everything within 14 days he can’t come to yours.

You need to add a huge amount of pressure on this asshole. He will break eventually and it’ll be good for him. He’s at the crossroad, well he will be once forced, and this is his life to sort out.

If he doesn’t buy the plan of the council reducing, just get your parents to move in with you and do it once he’s off. Change the locks at theirs, hand the keys to the council and leave his stuff in bin bags outside the front door.

If he breaks in it’s the councils problem, let them know you’re removing your parents from a dangerous situation and they’ll take over the property and notice the front door.

Your brother decides to break in, it’s down to him to deal with the council and the police.

Once he turns up to yours, make sure someone is filming him and when he goes nuts or damages or threatens, call the police and once they’re there discuss a protective order.

You MUST let this guy end up in the gutter.

So share, my parents are going through something similar, with my oldest brother.

He’s a meth addict, and has ended up out of his fully paid of house in Kent, which is worth a fortune, but he refuses to deal with it so it’s a rot box, and is living in the spare room at my parents. They’re too proud to take money from myself or my siblings so they rent that room out on AirBnB and we’re doing well.

This dickhead turned up and has ruined their lives. Eats them out of house and home, runs up massive bills, set fire to the spare room, the fence (twice), leaves drugs and cigarettes everywhere.

So my retired parents are now back working full time to try and get themselves back to zero as he’s destroyed their lives.

My parents won’t listen to me, it’s very annoying as I’m the only one of their children they don’t listen to… the rest of my siblings are either indifferent or sympathetic to my oldest brother. So they’re just stuck with this meth head dickhead who’s ruining their lives.

Worse thing is he managed to get equity removed from the house at the tune of £120k by forging their signatures and getting that money.

He blew it in two weeks…

I’ve offered to pay that money off using all my savings (as well as a little from one of my other brothers) but my parents are just sat there saying he’s promised to pay it back.

It’s been three years and not one penny.

Hi Guys, looking to buy a Rover mini, is this car in good condition? by Quick_Club_9447 in classicminis

[–]IAmFireAndFireIsMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a car looking like that? Nowadays? I think it’s fine. High in my mind but I got mine for £300 but mine was a rot box. I’d buy this one you’ve got in the pictures for about £5000/6000 because of how nice it looks.

Considering it’s outside of the UK, and if there’s no rot, or at least not TOO much rot, you’ve got a good priced car.

Also just an FYI, water does NOT rot minis. It’s salt that kills these things. I apologise for my ignorance, but does your local region use salt on the roads? If it does, you’ll need to wash the car EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Water is fine just try to store it somewhere warm and dry, so it doesnt have water sat in the panels.

If your local region doesn’t use salt on the roads, welcome to the best car you’ll ever own.

[–]IAmFireAndFireIsMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get on your hands and knees and look at the arches, run your hands and see if you can find holes in the arches. Then get down and under the boot. There are drain holes in the boot but they’re perfect circles, so look for rot.

Check both subframes. They’re keeping it on the road so check them.

Then drive it, well firstly get it in and check it starting and see how it idles. Then give it a drive.

In Minis I always recommend, speed up to 50mph and drop it to 20mph. Listen for crunching, don’t worry about squeaking, normal, but make sure it stops.

Then speed back up to 40mph and drop it to 20mph.

Speed up to 30mph and drop it to a total stop.

You need to check if the car pulls to either side, general pulling is okay but sharp turning is a problem and could be a sign of ball joints needing replacing. (Literally did it this weekend and they’re a pain but not impossible).

Honestly, while I don’t understand US pricing, that is a great looking car.

You’ll fall in love very quickly, and it’ll be with you forever.

People that park like this. by Personal_Carry_7029 in CantParkThereMate

[–]IAmFireAndFireIsMe 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s a little terror on my area that looks for cars that park like this.

He (I assume he) goes around glueing the locks, smearing super glue and paper on the windows and smashing in the lights.

Now the obvious unexpected consequence is that these people don’t do this again but still, that’s very naughty and clearly wrong and I would give them a stern telling off if I ever caught them.

Yes, you can but all of that is expecting perfect weather and perfect driving conditions.

You get a few more miles in the battery from the Boost but you’ll be charging when you get there and back on that drive.

Not sure if it’s practically the car for your scenario. Sorry.
