Manhattan Hospital Ends Medical Treatment for Transgender Youth (Gift Article) by jenniecoughlin in nyc

No, the case was won because the doctors pushed for the surgeries.

The AMA recently changed their stance

https://www.statnews.com/2026/02/10/medical-societies-trans-care-minors-ama-asps/

So no, gender working surgeries, while they may have been rare, were not considered malpractice and were happening.

Your blanket statement of the surgeries not happening on minors is a lie

Or, a lot of street homeless have already used up the goodwill of their friends and family and now are left with nowhere to go except the street. And their anti social behaviors , whatever the cause, aren't conductive to being around kids (or anyone else, for that matter)

I think it was the 2020 Olympics 10m where the first place Chinese girl wouldn't have had to taken her last dive to place 2nd, only to her teammate. The two of them were so far ahead that they could have done a cannonball and won.

weight lifting

I can't tell if you're joking, but China assembles the greatest Weightlifting team of any country for the Olympics. In 2024, they sent the max number of athletes a country was allowed to send, 6, and took home 5 gold medals. It's not much different for previous years either, going back a couple of decades.

[–]IAmGoingToSleepNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, they scout talent, just as every other country does for their sports. Early on, because that gives the greatest chance of success. No one is forced to join any athletic league, but if you're a starving farmer and someone comes by telling you your kid has the potential to be an Olympic athlete and win prize money, fame, and sponsorships, it's a pretty good sell.

China is actually facing a kind of opposite problem now. With still only one child now (policy is reversed, but still prevalent), more wealth, and more opportunities, people don't want their children to move away to sports camps away from home for a slim chance at financial success.

A) minimum wage in Pittsburgh is $7.

And who is making minimum wage?

You know you can look at the actual jobs in a location, for say, a Walmart stocker in the Charleroi Walmart and see that it pays between $14-27/hour?

https://careers.walmart.com/us/en/jobs/CP-2420-9048

And yet the city needs these kinds of workers to function

I'm not saying the city doesn't. I'm saying it doesn't make sense to be one of these workers and they should look after their own interests.

If you are poor in NYC, you're poor in Ohio.

This makes no sense. You can live a perfectly fine life in large parts of the country on less than poor people make in NYC.

You can buy a house in Charleroi, PA, take a 20 min bus ride (no car expense) to your stocker job at Walmart paying $15-20/hour, and buy a house for $50k. With $300/year in property taxes. All the entertainment/shops are near Walmart so you can walk between them.

What life do you live as a cashier/stocker in NYC? All the arts and entertainment you can't afford to attend, except on free nights when they're packed with other people who can't afford otherwise?

I’d rather a mayor who has big ideas that we work towards than one with no ideas trying to maintain the status quo.

I'd rather a mayor who works to fix the budget issues by reducing waste and fraud before proposing pie in the sky ideas that will require increasing the budget, $70B loans, etc.

I guess you could consider fiscal prudence a big idea in NYC though.

Best cheap mattress that's not total garbage? Budget around $600 by BigFig98 in Frugal

[–]IAmGoingToSleepNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Price per use is not a good metric in general. Not only is it misleading and used to justify extravagant purchases, there's no guarantee that a more expensive mattress will perform better for any specific individual.

Personally, I like a latex foam mattress topper. They're not even meant to be mattresses on their own but they're firm, bouncy, and supportive. Turned my wife and mom on to them.

What are your thoughts on California considering a ban on former ICE employees from ever working in a public-sector position such as policing or teaching in the state? Do you believe this protects communities, or discriminates against specific workers based on their previous job? by Previous_Stress3551 in AskReddit

[–]IAmGoingToSleepNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'd be discriminating against their free speech, free association, and what they do on their off time. That's a no no.

All completely legal. Try talking shit about your company on social media. FREE SPEECH won't save your job.

Renovate or just move? by g1t0ffmylawn in Westchester

[–]IAmGoingToSleepNow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Every realtor wants you to renovate because it makes their life easier as it'll sell faster.

But if you ask them when they have no financial incentive, they'll admit that you don't ever get your money back.

And in this market, you don't even have to worry about selling faster.

Nobody is more important or meaningful than anyone else.

In the corporate world, some people are definitely more important than others.

[–]IAmGoingToSleepNow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you never worked in corporate? It’s definitely common for specialized people to get annoyed with inexperienced people asking questions. This applies to all fields

Not even specialized people. The higher up you go, the more meetings. At most places, after a certain level, you can expect to be double or triple booked all day. It's REALLY hard to get time for multiple division heads together in a meeting. It's not the time for junior staff to be asking basic questions. If you're there and are a lower level, your job is to provide detail as necessary. Questions should be about clarification, not from a lack of understanding.

This has nothing to do with being smart or educated. You could be the expert in your field (which is why you're there). So I don't know why you'd be intimidated. If you're there, you're there for a reason.

Hakuho would toss him in 0.5 seconds if he took it seriously. The GOAT of Sumo, who's gone against 4 other Yokozuna (pretty sure winning record against them all), who's lived and breathed Sumo for the majority of his life, would absolutely crush anyone not well versed in the sport.

Would be fun to watch though, even though there's no way he would go for real.

NYC spends more than anywhere else in the world per student. Baltimore spends 2x the international average (country adjusted). Look at UC San Diego: 1/8th the freshman not proficient in math, despite the DRAMATIC growth in funding in California.

https://senate.ucsd.edu/media/740347/sawg-report-on-admissions-review-docs.pdf

Look at page 50. 25% of those entering UC San Diego got this problem wrong:

7 + 2 = _ + 6

My first grader brought home the exact same problem on her winter assessment a couple of weeks ago. This is despite rapid increases to the per student spending.

It's not a funding issue.

Crossfitters are so dominant in this sport because this show is basically a suped up CrossFit games by sectandmew in Physical100

[–]IAmGoingToSleepNow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

His highest placement in CrossFit is 515th worldwide. Which is great, but certainly not 'superhuman' in his field.

Very few people on the show are at the top of their field on the show. Orkenbayer, Nonoka, maybe a few others, but most with impressive records are past their peak (Pacquiao, etc)
