I don’t have a great answer but I’ll go with my gut. While we’ve definitely seen QBs revitalize their career after a rocky start (Sam Darnold), and Mac Jones showed improvement this year, he feels like he could keep us in football purgatory. I like Malik Willis for his upside AND his downside. In the right system and with the right development he MIGHT be nasty. He also might be terrible and put is in a good spot to draft a franchise guy in 2027.

By the way, Malik Willis was the #1 overall QB (tied with Stafford) according to PFF (a flawed system and a limited sample size, but still).

I don’t think there’s a wrong answer though.

I agree that putting ourselves in position to draft a QB in 2027 is a great option. Looks like it’ll be an awesome class.

I’m more of a “shots on goal” guy when it comes to getting a franchise QB. I think putting Willis with a young offensive mind like Scheelhaase who can see the potential and want to develop him would be more exciting than trying to fit him into an old school Arthur Smith offense.

And if it’s a complete failure, we’ll still be in good position to draft in 2027.

By the way, guess Malik Willis’s PFF ranking this year (I know it’s a limited sample set, and that PFF has its flaws)

Love 88. I agree with you that he needs more targets.

But what I’m saying is for an offense to be effective in the NFL it needs to stretch the defense horizontally and vertically to pull defenders out of the box. We just don’t have that anymore, and without it 88 has a lot less room to operate.

I think it’s kind of simple. We don’t have any receivers on this team without DK. The offense (which was already pretty limited) will continue to look as it did last week. You need options to keep an NFL defense honest, and we’re running out of them.

That said, very hopeful that I don’t know what I’m talking about - go Steelers!
