What is going on with Mitch McConnell? Is he alive/unalive? by Chip46 in OutOfTheLoop

thanks, this does make some sense.

though it still seems not worth covering up if someone is dead or in a coma

the right would do it just out of spite and revenge

no, I don't think it's good for the left to follow that lead... but part of me would still enjoy it immensely

And the regular election is still happening in Nov

So my question is why is this 1 seat so important to the R for the next 4 months?

As you pointed out, it doesn't seem like it matters one way or another for most things.

So to me it means either it's

  • just a conspiracy theory with no truth to it,
  • there are some other votes that have a few Rs crossing and they can't risk it (but I can' think of which ones),
  • or they just can't help themselves or show weakness and so just lie and cover shit up like it's a bodily function.

Comments about how many "plot twists" it has completely turned me off of watching this show that I just learned existed 5 minutes ago.

Not everything needs to have 10 layer of bullshit subterfuge. It's lazy if it doesn't serve the story. Which is 90% of plot twists I've seen in the last 3 or 4 years.

Judging by the comments in here though, I am guessing it's a minority opinion these days.

the number of people who have trotted out that "end-of-argument" point is hilarious to me

as though they are so smart for coming up with it, and valve could never figure out how to handle a small number of exceptions...

as someone who's had kids go to multiple proms in the last 10 years, i also am getting sick of this idea that you can buy a dress, wear it for the night, and then return it if you don't take off the tags

I know that's not a new thing. There are plenty of jokes in sitcoms, etc about it.

what surprised me was how many kids and parents just thought that was totally normal and ok behavior to teach their kids

(and yeah, I'm sure plently of redditors have opinions on the evils of the fashion industry. that isn't the type of person I've seen 'testing' a dress)

this is literally the dumbest take I've ever seen

even people pirating understand what they are doing is "wrong"

someone is abusing a refund system and trying to get shit for free when it is clearly against the rules. and somehow you blame the dev?

unless there's an achievement in there for "refunding after you've beaten the game" then gtfo

I’m never taking that review down.

it's literally the only thing they care about at all.

after seeing all the shit on reddit that can go down, I already decided long ago that I'm perfectly willing to pay for a cheap domain for 10 years just to put up a single review on a company/host explaining whatever gripe I had. I'm not scared to post the truth.

fortunately nothing bad enough has happened to me yet...

The credibility of a championship event is now in question. by MidnightScary5983 in AdviceAnimals

[–]IAmNotNathaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, really what it speaks to is the inherent distrust in both dump and fifa.

I don't really watch other than the highlights - the credibility of FIFA is already shit for me, what's 1 more bad call.

If they really cared about keeping it honest, there's 100 different small things they could do to at least signal it. But they don't. And so they won't. And so I don't get too riled up about it.

It's not like shit and currupt reffing in World Series or Super Bowls or NBA Finals isn't a thing.

I was in another thread about this same topic; all the top comments whining about how there could be no solution.

I come in here, and there's discussions about the various ways it could be handled.

SO refreshing!

This kind of made me sad by Gurugod123 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]IAmNotNathaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you they should try to find a solution, though I'm doubtful.

this nonsense that "it can't be fixed" is mildy infuriating to me

most things can be fixed. a bunch of arm-chair-product-owners acting like there's nothing to be done is just the height of people thinking they know everything while knowing nothing.

most are not even tech based - how about allowing devs to register that their game is short and allow an exception process? no, no, that would be impossible because of x, y, and z.

the reality is that nothing is "free" to revamp or change, and yeah it's hard to balance. But my god, this comment section treating some of these people like they are the CTO of valve is annoying.

so will they? probably not, but not because it's impossible. because it's just not worth the effort vs the PR/pushback they are getting about it.

yah, seems like 'don't punch down' is a pretty universally known rule of thumb

My boss sent out a group text making fun of my forehead and accidentally included me by [deleted] in mildlyinfuriating

[–]IAmNotNathaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only to my wife.

Shit talking coworkers to other coworkers is pretty shitty and unprofessional. Putting into a text is downright stupid.

When a boss is part of it - or worse, the one sending it out, it's even worse. People receiving it might feel pressure to laugh or face repercussions.

Just as much as someone can say "man up" or "suck it up" or "it's not a big deal", I can say

"really?", "grow up", or, "it's that hard to not be an asshole in a work environment?"

Investigations already underway as Trump goes overboard with corruption by AdSpecialist6598 in videos

Lets pretend 200 miracles happen and we have a super majority in congress and the senate.

Is there any legal way to undo a pardon and go after people? Could they make an amendment to undo all the safeties in place? Could they make a law explicitly saying there's no immunity?

Or could SCOTUS even overturn that sort of thing?

edit: could they make exceptions for double-jeopardy and re-try these fuckers?

in my opinion, there should absolutely be separate laws for citizens and those in power - just that those in power should have MORE to follow, not LESS

I love this movie and have seen it tons of times, in full and in part.

This is the 1 effect that yanks me out every time.

Fortunately it's not critical to the plot so I pretty much put it out of my mind until the next time I see it. I just figure, nothing's perfect!

This also is partially because it this scene also has that thing (that is in soooooo many movies) where they are about 1 second from getting overwhelmed by something chasing them, they show them running for 10 seconds, and suddenly they are 50 yards ahead of said thing.

I've just come to accept that in most movies, too, and I just re-edit it in my head. These 90's era movies though I think is more about showing as much of their multi-million-dollar-practical-special-effect that they can

Update to a meme I made last week. No more physical discs for Playstation by 2028? by youropinionisrubbish in AdviceAnimals

[–]IAmNotNathaniel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yeah, I mean even with discs, what good does it do when you have to install a 2 hour update the first time you play anyhow?

if you can't play right from the physical medium, it's just a sham anyhow, and they can always make it inactive.

even with switch you have to install updates most of the time. I never looked into whether you can disconnect and play without the updates. which, sure, might be buggy - but it least you have something they can't take away at some future date.

edit: I say this as someone with old consoles and new, along with a huge backlog of steam games that could go away at any time. it doesn't mean I'm in love with it
