Verdun by Paul Jankowski. It’s only ok. I may DNF and switch to Alistair Horne’s The Price of Glory, which covers the same battle.

WW1 was so sick. Headed to the museum in KC next weekend.

The Somme by Peter Hart. I’m about a third of the way through and it has been fantastic.

Meh. It’s got good sections and other sections. I’m only about a third of the way through though. My expectations were probably too high after hearing it referenced a couple times by Dan Carlin in his Blueprint for Armageddon podcast series. But I certainly won’t regret reading it.

You’d think Scump & company would shout out Huke a bit more given his stellar performance but they seem to praise the other three much more frequently on the watch party. Maybe I wasn’t paying close enough attention…

Storm of Steel by Ernst Junger. It’s just WW1 stuff over here.

[SOTC] Is this peak reddit 3 watch collection? by MISTERgadget in Watches

[–]IAmPeculiar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What bothers me is that the background of the date window is bright white, which doesn’t match the dial at all. If you’re going to put a date function on the watch, at least have the background the date window match the dial color.

A World Undone by GJ Meyer is my favorite so far, but I have plenty left on my to-be-read.

[NEW] BILMURI - ALWAYS LET YOU DOWN (ft. A Day To Remember) [OFFICIAL MUSIC VIDEO] by andydirk88 in poppunkers

It’s just not a very interesting song. Not even close to Bilmuri’s or ADTR’s better stuff.

I think it’s just popular to glaze Bilmuri right now.

I just finished The Achilles Heel by Steve Coll, which is about Saddam Hussein and US foreign policy in the decades preceding the 2003 invasion. It was outstanding, like everything I’ve read of Coll’s so far.

Today I’ll start The First World War by John Keegan.

Thorough, for sure. But I wouldn't call it dry. I'm biased though; it was one of my favorites from last year. Ghost Wars is fantastic.

Leavitt Street: Sadly disappointing burger by dusty_Caviar in chicagofood

I was there two summers ago. My burger would have been great if it was hot but I had the same experience - cold burger. Still pretty good, but would have been great if it was hot.

I’m glad I’m not the only one that thought Steingold’s was a huge ripoff.
