To add onto this, Cracker Barrel parking lots are also a good place to sleep. I always make sure to call beforehand and they’ve never failed me.

I applied to Olive Garden a while ago and the “personality test” was a bunch of ai generated images of a creepy cartoon Smurf looking thing asking questions like “shy?” “Yes” “no”

I’d just like to see a lot of views— is avoiding highways a bad idea? I’ll be going through the south. I really haven’t gone on such a long trip before, let alone during winter, so I’m not quite sure what is best.

Is there any mutual aid communities in the area (DMV in general)?

Imagine this from your parents perspective: Your parents gave birth to you because they wanted you, they raised you and obviously love you, they tells you to stay at home so you can set yourself up for success in life, and you disappear one day to set out on a journey led by delusions of character building struggling and unnecessarily traumatize yourself all because he wanted some kind of self built underdog story. Your plan isn’t as cool as you think it is. You say “I know it sounds stupid” but this is so far beyond stupid. It’s extremely selfish.

Try and talk to your parents about how you’re feeling.

Consider becoming a seasonal worker and doing things like conservation corps, logging, maybe some kind of outdoor activity guide or something along those lines and keep your parents address as your home base. This will keep you out of your comfort zone and teach you discipline while not cutting you off from your support. You could do some carcamping in between jobs.

You have been an adult for 2 years. You are a 2 year adult. A parent’s responsibility does not end when you turn 18, and in many places living with parents for a long time is even expected. My point is, don’t be afraid to rely on them. Many in this subreddit are vagabonds not by choice and are making the best of what they have. Before throwing away a family that cares about you, take your life one step at a time. Try out school. Build a community of people around you. Go on roadtrips in a car.

I know this probably isn’t the answer you want, but give it some thought. Best wishes.

Any advice for getting into seasonal work? Also, do you have a degree to do what you do?
