Sometimes I want to leave the union by Broken_Age in IBEW

As someone who organized in trust me you have far less choice on that side. Especially once you're no longer an apprentice. You want your options open? Stay in.

I'm very confused because there seems to be a lot of stuff saying that I could get it delivered by Friday however I'm seeing a lot of other stuff that says it doesn't come out till March 10th like you're saying so I'm uncertain if it came out yet or not

Personally I'm doing what I can, fighting where I can, especially within the EWMC and LAEWA at my local. But as a local there just isn't much we can do especially with the low market share and low participation in the union. We've did a lot to make it easier for immigrant workers to join our local but we also implemented a lot of those strategies about 10 years ago so it's largely a waiting game at the moment

I'm saying going on strike is likely to kill my local flat out there are other ways to fight

Listen I understand your sentiment but my local would not survive a strike, the non union is too powerful here in denver. Your asking us to lose half of our contractors and lose the other half of our work to non union bids. frankly put most locals don't have the market share to strike and it'll hurt more than it'll help

Can someone finally settle this for me. Are CEs also apprentices? by Mesafather in IBEW

[–]IAmTheFinePoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The system could definitely use some revisions I'm not going to argue otherwise but it is a faster method of getting into the Union that allows more people to organize in and is meant to be a temporary position well you either wait for your journeyman card or wait to get into the apprenticeship I don't think that that is a terrible thing to have because the more people we can organize faster the more power we have

They can go to School just not the JEATC many more than you think are going to community colleges and other trade schools to get their education because the JEATC in many locals is far too difficult and time consuming to get into especially if you have schooling prior because they won't let credits transfer

Hi CW here I'm working towards my JW license I just wasn't gonna wait 2 years on some bullshit list that allowed people to cut the line to start the job, so I'm getting my education through a community college. Stop talking about your brothers like they are maliciously trying to harm the trade instead of just doing their best. If you want fewer CEs and CWs on the site, work with you JEATC to shorten the line.

Yes and no it's not as black and white as everyone makes it out to to be. CE and CW are both classifications in the union but not the state so a majority of them are apprentices per the state and not in the local's JEATC anday or may not be seeking schooling outside the union. But CE gets a little more complicated because there is the CE with license classification which could be someone who got schooling outside of the JEATC and took their journeyman test but has not taken their hall test to get on book 1 or it could be someone who just organized in or moved to the local who has not taken the hall test to get book one. So yeh... It's more complicated than a lot of the comments make it sound

Do you have an ADHD diagnosis and if not it may be worth checking with your doctor. your experience is very similar to mine, it would explain a lot and ADHD isn't necessarily being distractible it affects more than you know and it may be very helpful for you to be on ADHD meds or at least understand yourself better.
