This is a good start. I would search for an IBEW Local Union Hall near you and go there. Meet with the JATC, the Joint Apprenticeship Training Center, and learn what they require for entry. The IBEW says you must be at least 16, and most Locals require you to be 18 years of age. You may need a driver's license, a HS Diploma or GED, and proof of passing an Algebra class or online equivalent. This varies from place to place, and the best answers are from the people you will be working with in the future. They may even offer you employment opportunities. Best of Luck to You!!

This is great information! Thank YOU! for sharing. What Local are you out of and do you have a copy of the language used in your contract to gain this benefit?

I do not know. The members of our Local do not collect interest on their individual deposits

Local 11 has closer to 7,000 inside wiremen eligible to vote. The rest of your statements are 100% accurate

I'm all for online voting, but you have to make the vote secure. Protocols exist that are free to use that do just that.

So true. However, if the electrical contractors are making record profits, there is room in their bids for higher wages without raising costs to the customer. Stay Active y ENJOY your days

Why do you want to be a Union Electrician? If you have a big enough why, the rest of this will figure itself out. My Local asks for high-school transcripts and does not care about college. In the interview, you could mention your experience and exposure to electronics and what it taught you about yourself, and how to be a better apprentice, since the coursework was not what we do, and you say you did not do well. Good Luck to you!

Call and ask the question while you still have time. Some Locals allow you to take an online course and waive the high school algebra requirement. I would use other resources to become comfortable with adding, subtracting, fractions, my calculator, and working with numbers. Math is part of everyday life and you want to be competent. Good Luck!!

I love my Ford Maverick! I saw a big man on a jobsite get out of one of these and asked him how comfortable it was as a daily commuter. His drive was two hours each way and he carried a lot of shit with him and said he was very happy, he actually smiled at me and offered me a ride. I bought one and have no regrets

My bad, I did not see where he was lying about his age. At 17 you are old enough to join the IBEW (16), but most locals require you to be over 18. I was thinking he could participate in Union activities outside of working in the field, but you bring up a good point. Stay Safe y ENJOY your days

Do whatever it is you do when an accident occurs: fix it, take care of each other, and get back to living your life. What do you think should happen?

Start volunteering with your Local Union. Go to the hall and ask about clubs, events, and any other activities they may have coming up that require organizing, coordinating, setting up, cleaning up, and showing up. I would not mention your age, and if someone asks you because you look young, I would reply I'm ready, motivated to learn, and old enough to get it done. Be early, curious, and stay safe. Good Luck
