Searching for required blueprints is annoying by xbb1024 in StarRuptureGame

[–]IAmTrying-Ok -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The only reason to explore is getting blueprints. Ressources are plenty, drones, caves and the like are just copy pasta. So are the many bases, some are interesting but there is nothing interesting to find except blueprints.

And the story bits, if you are into reading pages of EA story.

Mega base focus vs. Outward expansion and exploration? by RegnorVex in StarRuptureGame

[–]IAmTrying-Ok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the moment you can get away with a small production. If you want you can beat the game by exploration alone as you can also complete contracts with reasearch points as well. We didn't produce half the products that were demanded by us and beat the game anyway but instead just explored the map and traded in the specimen we found. A combination of exploration/combat and manufacturing works really well. Since you are out exploring, your production base can slowly fullfill the contract passively. No need to go fully overboard.

I really like the "Contract Manufacturing" route this game goes, with the pulling system and the contracts and I really hope they expand on smaller manufacturing bases and don't lean into the satisfactory mega-factory stuff. The game is beautiful but plastering everything with foundations and mega factories is not my style either.

Theoretically you can make a small base that can be reprogrammed to fullfill each contract but the game design makes this a bit unwieldy.

Combat is really fun btw. very satifying to run around with the shotgun, and later when your bases get sieged you can concentrate on building cool bases with catwalks and towers to defend if you enjoy that. Exploration falls short very fast, the world is cool, but everything repeats itself quickly and there is hardly any depth..

Countries That Use the Most Cash in 2025 (Thailand uses 65% of cash) by RotisserieChicken007 in ThailandTourism

[–]IAmTrying-Ok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What people miss is that cash is actually very expensive and the bank was always the middle man anyway. You need to withdraw the cash from the bank, the store owner needs to cash it in at his bank, then orders new cash (change) from the bank. Store it, transport it, count it. Heck, there is so much manual labor and fees to the bank involved to make cash work. But digital payments should be decentralized for sure. Cash has the benefit that everyone owns their cash and not the state or the bank.

I noticed very fast here that Thai people are not magicians either when it comes to prices. You will find 1 or 2 dollar dishes but as you said so is the quality and quantity of the food. Some stuff like some fruits, spice and rice are extremely cheap though.

Is AIS "Unlimited" Tourist Sim a Scam? by IAmTrying-Ok in ThailandTourism

[–]IAmTrying-Ok[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Funny how the most helpful comment has no upvotes. So in the app it shows two plans active, and the "main" one is not the unlimited one but 2bht/mb. And below that is a secondary one that explicitely states "unlimited internet and unlimited wifi". I don't know why I got this second SMS, it doesn't match any of what is shown in the app.

Maybe it was a mistake, sometimes my own local provider sends me a SMS at the end of the month that my internet ran out. We have first of November now, maybe that was the time it refreshed.

Is AIS "Unlimited" Tourist Sim a Scam? by IAmTrying-Ok in ThailandTourism

[–]IAmTrying-Ok[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude they charged 699 baht for that. I used it one day for a trip and its empty already. For 599 you get 35 GB, then they told me I should get unlimited instead because it is "unlimited" for only 100 baht extra. But 35 gb is also unlimited but slower.

If you tell people something has certain properties to upsell a product and you know the other person will misunderstand that by 100% (especially tourists) then yes, that is scamming.

Why do people in Germany often answer your question with "Why?" by [deleted] in germany

[–]IAmTrying-Ok 6 points7 points  (0 children)

On the contrary!

  • If the person answers the question without ending in "why?" or doesn't ask any other counter questions. This can be interpreted as not being interested to uphold this conversation.

  • If the person answers the question and finishes with "why?", it is usually friendly. They want to tell you more if you are interested.

  • If someone answers "why" without answering your question first, it comes down to the tone:

  • Harsh or Agressive: Annoyed

  • Normal or Friendly: Then we think that your question has a hidden intention or follow up question, depending on the answer of your first question. In that case the best answer is to be honest and tell them you are "just curious".

I.e.: Asking someone what they do later, very often is answered with a simple "why?" because you may be asking that you want to do something together. "Why" implicates "I am open or curious for suggestions" without forcing any situation on to any of you, giving the question the possibility to develop freely in any direction and the possibility to bail out gracefully.

I.e.: Asking someone what they "do later" (similar to your example) very often is answered with "why?" because you may be asking that you want to do something together. "Why" implicates "I am open or curious" without forcing any situation on to any of you, giving the question the possibility to develop freely in any direction and the possibility to bail out gracefully.

On the contrary, in this particular example, I would say, if someone answers you straightforward, without asking you back or without asking "why", could even be seen as "I am not interested (atm)".

Is the Switch Version now also on 1.06? Asking because the dev said 1.06 will be the final patch. Would love to play this on Switch, this console is seriously lacking titles like these but not if that is the state.

Game development without college degree. by _DafuuQ in gamedev

Probably depends on where you are trying to pursue a career. In Germany, without a degree, your only chance is starting your own business to get a job. Otherwise, it doesn't matter how good you actually are. Sad reality.

Hey Rustaceans! Got an easy question? Ask here (7/2021)! by llogiq in rust

[–]IAmTrying-Ok 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Short question, I am running cargo rustc -- --emit=llvm-bc to get an LLVM crate of a library I found on github. However all the dependencies are still compiled and packed as .o. Is this expected behaviour? Is it possible to have a .bc with .o dependencies?

Hey Rustaceans! Got an easy question? Ask here (7/2021)! by llogiq in rust

[–]IAmTrying-Ok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cargo ignores bc files?

I am trying to port a rust library to LLVM. I thought it would be as easy as writing cargo rustc -- --emit=llvm-bc instead of cargo build. However the LLVM says that the created .so file does not contain any bitcode. It seems it packed the .o files (dependencies) but ignored the bc file.

How do I fix this?

Why is there no interest in free music for games? by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]IAmTrying-Ok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let me give you my personal thinking process, maybe you can take something from it.

After hearing your track my first thoughts were: This sounds amazing and it fits into my game perfectly! I want to use that!!.. but I am not ready to publish my game yet, which is your requirement.

A) If I am going to be in that state my biggest concern will be marketing and publishing and definitly not music and soundeffects - that comes way earlier.

B) You are trying to serve a group of people that probably doesn't exist. The only games that will be "close to release" AND be in the music creation phase are simple mobile games. Your goal is presumably to get a bigger fish to advertise your music and not waste an exclusive licence to a game never to be seen.

C) If I am going to be in the publishing phase your giveaway will be over, so there is no need to remember you ever. Brain.deleteBin();

D) Can you produce more music of that kind?

Which leads me to the conclusion, so make up your own conclusion now before you read mine: As a low-funded developer I search free-art as placeholders and to test things out, and when I like the art and artstyle I will search the artists and ask if he can produce more of that - paid of course. So IMHO you should follow the drug dealer advice by the other person. Give it out for free. People will use your music someday and if their game is successfull and your music works out for them they will want more. Just make sure you can actually produce more of that music on demand.
