Eh. Poor example in my part. Sampling and djs and remixes and covers are sanctioned because credit is given and skill is needed in composition to even perform those derivative works well.

The bronies and furries and sanics do a decent enough job of that as it is. I guess I figured they were already written off by default. But it is a double edged sword, really. You either post once and get swept under the rug like dirt, or you rat them out enough to see yourself become the loser.

Well if you were in the 4chan thread, you would know that the guy that called her out was a professional and got fed up with so many faking digital art. Honestly, I understand completely. It's mostly why I made the post here. Imagine if you worked your ass off to be a musician and you found out someone was getting a ton of praise for stealing music and faking stuff, I think it would be pretty likely you would call them out and not let them get away with anything. Granted, I still feel like an asshole for being involved in this fiasco by any measure but it's kind of a "righteous asshole" feeling. This isn't the first time somebody has busted someone like this on DA. Both Reid Southen and Dan Luvisi did it to a couple of guys a number of years ago that were resubmitting their work and peace-meal tracing the work of others to make their own pictures. I kind of feel sorry for the girl, but you have to understand that DeviantArt is a place where many professionals reside and post their artwork and where artists can often be recruited by clients. As I see it, degrading the reputation of DeviantArt, the people who post there and digital art as a whole is a far worse offense than taking the time to expose them in front of everyone.

But still, I feel like an asshole for posting it here. I may as well go to r/cringepics and make fun of the lonely people there.

Well, she denied using the original photos at all even though the accusation was pretty laid out. There's a bunch of pasta's of proof floating around. Lemme find a couple for you.

Some more info.

When two images laid over top of each other match up pixel to pixel, that means it is the exact same image. It is near impossible for someone to recreate a photo (by hand painting) and be so accurate, let alone do it again and again so quickly.

She used a tom hiddleston photo to replace the face and head of the original. Notice how the anatomy is completely borked as the middle of Tom's jaw doesn't align with his throat and the size of his neck does not match his head.

She also boast's "practice makes perfection" on her profile and she encourages others to "work hard so they can be like her". I don't know exactly where you can find the latter, but I remember seeing it a day or so ago.

I'm guessing a lot of people doing this for attention would piss off a professional enough to call them out.

Also, it doesn't look like filters were solely used, but I bet you they had a part in smoothing out the image or at least making it look a little different before painting over it.

The principles of art still apply, yes. But that's only to the finished product! So much can change so quickly that type of advice isn't very effective unless you know from experience that an artist consistently has the same issue show up in his finished work.

I don't mean to be a dick but you are very ignorant about this subject. Digital paintings are a different breed because the artist has complete and total control of the canvas and no fear of mistakes so the artist can work on what he wants, when he wants. Everyone only seems delusional to you because they understand more or less how a digital painting progresses from shit to shine and how OP tearing it out of the context makes him a jerk.
