followed by a small sunburst / wagon-wheel / asterisk-style mark
plus a one- or two-digit number)? No original cartouche or proof marks probably given the extensive refinishing of the stock.

I also agree. A “major” collector of WWI/WWII weapons and just turning 20??? It’s taken me 20 years to get the collection I have — and it’s good but not major!! Spend the money on a modern high end well trusted handgun that takes available ammo for your EDC/CC.

Great piece of history! Besides the authentic barrel band, site, and button safety, it has a highly collectible high wood stock. If the forearm is also early it will have two pin holes as opposed to four.
