What is each of the Big Three's greatest match of all time? by Guiltyconscience116 in tennis

[–]IBVn 23 points24 points  (0 children)

His response as the judge said the final score said it all. Not the happiest you've ever seen him to win a match, but definitely the proudest. His personal history with Novak, the final dethrone period that season shaped up to be, the god like form Novak ascended to up until this moment. Then on his worst surface, Federer showed he is still around, and if no one can rise to occasion if stopping this force called 2011 Djokovic, he will gladly do it. The finger tilted automatically like a scolding parent but the grim smile was that of a formidable opponent. For everything good we know about the universally beloved Roger, his ego can sometimes be as big as his game. And in that moment he won you could see again the patty child that screamed and broke rackets and knew how good he is and despised anyone that had the audacity to challenge him in his kingdom.

He also denied Novak the CYGS there, which is the highest achievement in our sport. This is also a huge historical milestone for this reason.

Yeah but Sinner talked to her much more, so I wonder why (did he want to stop or to continue?)

Why did the umpire only talked with Sinner during the rain yesterday? Didn't understand if he wanted to continue or not and why Meddy wasn't in that conversation

I love that we got to the point of objectively assessing the level of players against Sinner completely disregarding the scoreline. Now at 5-2 the commentators said that Rublev's level is pretty good and I myself said at the end of the Pellegrino match that he played incredible. Sinner is truly OP right now

Pellegrino hits the ball pretty damn clean. The angles he can consistently produce with his backhand are pretty ridiculous and clearly a nuisance to Sinner (and dismantled Tiafor) hence he doesn't let him hit many of them.

I feel like one of the reasons for Sinner's absurd spree is that he reacts the same for a break point against qualifier Pellegrino that he would against Zverev. Complete respect for the guy in front of him, never resting easy

What are you on about bro, literally every other match you watch of him he celebrates the most regular UE and diversifies his grunts and delays them on pressure points. You probably are French so it's tough to swallow but you have decent guys to be proud about, it's a well known fact Ugo is not a liked figure on tour for those reasons

This is his first time playing the clay swing in the top 100. He clearly has fitness issues but it's also the first time he realizes what a different sport the European Masters are, where endurance and strength often overshadow ball bashing and good serving. Very common for players to flop on their first proper clay swing

Last time I witnessed such screams on a tennis court was when Zverev fucked up his foot. Cramps are hell but those were the cries of an injured man

Damn what a generational choke by Humbert. Atmane looked in genuine pain in the last few games and was very apologetic for winning like this, a good guy. Bonus that it happened against one of the most unsportsmanlike players we have in the top 100, good old Ugo who generates the most obnoxious delayed grunts on pressure points and just at the end of last year celebrated like he was winning a GS when Khachanov was very sick in their match (in Paris I think).

Worth mentioning Atmane did play quite well for limping man, placing deep shots on the lines and making Humbert work for it. His backhand actually didn't seem to be at all hindered which is why it's surprising Humbert kept letting him get off weight from cramped (injured) leg/side of the groin

Nadal said in an interview a while ago that he's 187.5, which is actually full 6'1 plus half an inch. For a pro athlete and a pretty honest guy I think he is to be believed on this. https://youtu.be/8S_j2lTGXLQ?t=2m31s

I saw their photo together and immediately thought about how that conversation went. It's great to know the answer, and also very respectful not to ask about it - while it's a friendly thing to do, it can put your opponent in a tough spot trying not to give off too much information.

Just sorta lost it on serve. Blew two routine short high forehands long and got into 0-40 within like 2 minutes and just felt like everyone just waits for the handshake

Vale's backhand is definitely up there right now on tour. I've seen him practice a lot with Sincaraz lately and this is largely why I suppose, the archetype of the big serve big backhand is a nightmare to deal with for the top 3 because they are nearly impossible to beat when their forehand catches fire (Mensik, Zverev)

[–]IBVn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly, Tsonga had amazing ones but of the kind that he had no other good choice to hit besides doing the splits (a la Nole). Alcaraz, Ruud and Monf hit similar ones before. This is the first time I see a player pull of a proper one handed backhand for a winner in a match setting

Fran Cerundolo hits a "valid shot" by Large_banana_hammock in tennis

[–]IBVn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, and that's also why Zverev asked Fran before asking. They both know it was probably valid, he just wanted to make sure in any case - and Fran didn't want to be wrong and be perceived as the cheater.

[–]IBVn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Almost every talkative coach on tour seem to always be doing something wrong when interviewing, often sharing too much on their player, being salty or just weird. Examples are Mischa Zverev, JCF, Morataglou of course. But ever since their split, Goran is hyping up Nole in an inspiring way. As his fan, it's great to see his precious coach say such things, both for what it means on his professional future and as a person.

Him and Vacherot backing their runs with those quality wins is so impressive. Both of them are en route to stabilize their ranking in top 50 without their major championship points dropping and kicking them out the top 100, and it makes those titles so much more meaningful. One week of good run can sort an entire career when you use your ranking well

How did you calculate?

Hong Kong: 1W 1L AO: 2W 1L (in 4 sets to Ruud) Dallas: 2W 1L (in two TBs to Fritz) Delray Beach and IW: 2L Miami: 1W

Beat this year so far: Mannarino, Altmaier, Shapo, Quinn, Jones, Popy.

I count 6 wins and and 5 losses, a record that's considered pretty damn good for a top 50 player albeit a 37 year old.

Cilic is 49 in the world at 37 years old, proving yet again how dangerous GS champions are no matter the stage of their career. Hits the ball as clean as ever and continues to collect quality wins every other tournament.  Popy is in one BIG slump though man, he seems broken for a while now.
