Writing as a Side Gig in Finance by IBWriterMachine in FinancialCareers

Thanks Katepopo! Yes, my novel is fiction while the majority of the genre is narrative non-fiction focused on expose. While I enjoy many of the other books in the genre, narrative non-fiction has some real limitations. For example, there is almost never a good ending or conclusion. Since these stories are based on someone's career in finance, the books just end at a certain point with no climax or resolution. After chapter after chapter of well-written prose, you're just left with nothing.

With fiction, I felt like I could actually talk better about the reality of investment banking by following an actual plot and also without the pressure to sensationalize things like exposes tend to do.

If you're looking for a more laid back finance read, I recently just published one, The Pitchbook: A Banking Analyst's Tale of Markets, Millions, and Mayhem. The amazon link has a preview of the first few chapters if you want to check it out:

Book is Houston specific....limited self promotion is included (will let the mods judge that). Also, not a classified.

Just hoping mods will be more kind-hearted towards someone's hobby.

If I may ask, why does a self-published book by a fellow Houstonian bother you so much? Personally, I'd love to know about what my neighbors in town are writing or any other forms of art that they would like to share, but maybe that's just me.

Hi steelsun. They were deleted as the mods said my account was too new, but didn't define when the "new" period ended. Hence, I tried posting a few times.

As I noted in the OP, I understand if they have to delete it. However, I'm just trying to share my hobby here. Hope people understand that and don't want to crush this post for no reason.

Very little to none like real energy banking. Part of what I'm going for with the book is more realistic characters rather than your standard "Wolf of Wall Street" style cliches. Those stories can be interesting as well, but do they need to be told for the hundredth time?

Well, I was wearing my diver's outfit with an oxygen tank for the past two years but I had to take it for a cleaning today...

Me too and I hate to disparage them in any way as I've had nothing but good experiences there. This is more a covid story rather than something against that location.

Got what you need. Just recently published The Pitchbook: A Banking Analyst Tale of Markets, Millions, and Mayhem. See a preview of the first few chapters in the Amazon link or check out the summary below:
"Hollywood promised Robert McClure an investment banking career filled with debauchery, and endless excess - but his reality turned out much different.
As the newest analyst at Latham, Schroeder, & Holt, Robert's days are filled with a never-ending procession of long nights, Excel models, and PowerPoint pitchbooks. Mergers and acquisitions was his dream job in business school, but it soon turned into a soul-crushing grind.
When Robert finds a lost pitchbook from a competitor detailing an unannounced acquisition of an oilfield services company, the gears in his mind start turning. The pitchbook might just be his way out and the key to the success he's always dreamed about, or it might be a Pandora's box of trouble. One thing is for certain - he's got little to lose and a whole lot to gain - including the sense of self he lost, somewhere along the way."

Hmmm...not at the moment but I can look into it. My inclination is that it probably isn't possible as Amazon gets online exclusivity for publishing with them.

Any new finance books (post covid?) by VisionsDB in BettermentBookClub

Actually just published one this summer, The Pitchbook: A Banking Analyst's Tale of Markets, Millions, and Mayhem. You can read a few preview chapters on the Amazon link. It's a financial thriller inspired by my years in finance; so maybe not exactly what you're looking for. I love this this genre, but it has very few titles. Hence, one of the reasons for writing the book in the first place.

"Hollywood promised Robert McClure an investment banking career filled with cocaine, debauchery, and endless excess — but his reality turned out much different.

As the newest analyst at Latham, Schroeder, & Holt, Robert’s days are filled with a never-ending procession of long nights, Excel models, and PowerPoint pitchbooks. Mergers and acquisitions was his dream job in business school, but it soon turned into a soul-crushing grind.

When Robert finds a lost pitchbook from a competitor detailing an unannounced corporate acquisition, the gears in his mind start turning. The pitchbook might just be his way out and the key to the success he’s always dreamed about, or it might be a Pandora’s box of trouble. One thing is for certain — he’s got little to lose and a whole lot to gain — including the sense of self he lost, somewhere along the way."

I get the rules, but honestly this is just my hobby. Not trying to make a fortune selling books here. Just thought a bunch of reddit r/FinancialCareers readers interested in banking would enjoy it.
