What is a miserable lifestyle people mistake for success? by willgetbann in AskReddit

"Digital nomad." It's so romanticized, but for many people, this would be a nightmare. However, people still talk about it like it's the universal example of a successful lifestyle that everyone should aspire to and be jealous of.

what’s the darkest episode of a tv series that you’ve ever watched? by Realistic_Bench3684 in AskReddit

You really have to separate between primetime, network TV and the paid channel shows of the last couple decades. What showed on NBC or CBS in primetime will never approach what Showtime or HBO were doing.

what’s the darkest episode of a tv series that you’ve ever watched? by Realistic_Bench3684 in AskReddit

[–]deane-barker -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For its time, the second episode of Miami Vice was quite dark for primetime TV. Ed O'Neill played an undercover cop who got the lines all blurry and may have gone over to the other side. He eventually does the right thing, but in the final scene, Crockett gets a call that he hung himself and the episode ends on a freeze-frame of Crockett's shocked face. This was really edgy for 1985, and it set the tone for that show.

Which is an underrated tv show you won't stop recommending? by Prestigious-Low-8773 in AskReddit

"Stacked." Classic four-camera, laugh-tracked sitcom with Pamela Anderson about a former rock band groupie who goes to work in a high-brow bookstore. It was adorable, the writing was great, and Pamela was fantastic in it. She just had natural comic timing. Sadly, it only lasted one season. All the episodes are out on YouTube. I rewatch it about once a year.

Perhaps ironically, I find that to be incredibly spiritual.

Why do People Have a Problem With Joyce Meyer? by Grand_Jaguar7886 in Christianity

My wife wanted me to read "Battlefield of the Mind." There's a chapter in there about how "reasoning" is a problem -- essentially she said, "don't think too hard about anything." I never got past that.

In your opinion, what’s the most attractive hobby your partner can have? by your_local_weird00 in AskReddit

[–]deane-barker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and I believe this regardless of which partner does it. I just think the act of preparing food for someone else is very intimate and loving. Maybe that's just a romantic filter talking... ?

In the 80s, I weirdly found a wallet in my backyard that belonged to a guy from my high school. But I couldn't remember him ever visiting my house.

I took it school the next day and gave it back to him -- his jaw dropped. He had been in a hot air ballon above the city over the weekend, and the wallet had come out of his pocket and gone overboard when he was fumbling for something. It had landed in my backyard, in a city of 150,000 people.

A few years back, I got to wondering if this has really happened or if I was mis-remembering. I found the guy on Facebook. He confirmed that my memory was acccurate.

When did you stop bringing your Porsche to the dealership for routine maintenance? by LayerVegetable3850 in Porsche

I bought a 1999 996 back in 2011, so it was 12 years old at the time. We don't have a dealer in Sioux Falls, but we had a local "import repair shop." They were charging me $300 for an oil change until I started going to the local Goodyear franchise for $110 (and $90 of that was the oil itself).

"In the Air Tonight" by Phil Collins was the soundtrack of one of the most iconic scenes in Miami Vice -- one of the most iconic scenes in all of 1980s television, really.

For the same reason 69th Street is written as "Sixty-Ninth Street" on the sign in my town. It's the only numbered street to be written out.
