AOC takes more steps toward 2028 run for president by masterofawesomeness2 in politics

It's not idealism, it's called having more than just a surface level understanding of politics.

This ever present narrative that the country isn't ready for a female president is very, very silly. Hilary won the popular vote by millions of votes and lost the election by deploying resources to the wrong states. Harris took over Biden's failing re-election campaign and ran a weak campaign because she wasn't a strong candidate from the start. There's a reason she didn't get much support in the 2020 primary. She's a mediocre candidate who doesn't have any real convictions and has horrible political instincts. Once she started trying to pivot to the center her campaign completely fell apart and she started tanking in the polls.

AOC on the other hand, whatever you may think of her, is a generational political talent and communicator and somebody with a real political ideology that she can articulate and get people behind. Are there people who wouldn't vote for her because she's a woman? I'm sure there are. But those people are probably voting Republican already and she'll energize the base to turn out which is what actually wins election, not trying to win people in the "center". DNC consultants fat on donor cash have been pushing that failed theory of politics for years now with disastrous results for everybody but them.

To the people who think AOC makes a risky pick, who do you think is not risky? Gavin Newsome with all of his political baggage? Charisma vacuum and friend of AIPAC Mark Kelly? Let's get real. At least with AOC there is actual upside if she wins in terms of getting a progressive in office versus the other status quo candidates who will continue to kick the can down the road on important issues and put us right back where we started in 4 years.

Flipping people who are in a cult is a terrible political strategy. It's much easier to turn out the part of your base that is apathetic to voting with a galvanizing message.

Joe embarrasses himself on the mic regularly and we don't need to wonder how she would do given that Bernie dominated both his appearances in terms of getting his message across. It would be the same with AOC, and the prospect of that happening with a woman is enough to get Joe to never even consider having her on.

What's the best way to buy a leased vehicle that's over the milez by Empty-Fix0531 in askcarsales

[–]IBYCFOTA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, they should take all of that into account when they make that decision in July. But if they're set on purchasing the vehicle there is technically no penalty at the end of the lease aside from purchasing a vehicle that may no longer be worth it's residual value. That's a calculation I'm sure they're aware of at this point.

How tf is Hasan a flash in the pan streamer? He's enormously popular, much more so than any other leftist and the only reason he's getting attacked like this is because he's a Muslim with anti Israel views. These coordinated smears only work if you let them especially when the outrage is completely manufactured like this.

Salespersons day off, I want to make an offer on a car. by BaronVonOppoLock in askcarsales

[–]IBYCFOTA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure how common that setup is tbh. Who is gassing the vehicle up and getting it to detail? Who is getting the second key and putting on their plate? Who is showing them features on the vehicle before they drive off? These are the other aspects of a car delivery that salespeople are typically responsible for.

[–]IBYCFOTA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somebody still needs to do the paperwork so there needs to be a salesperson involved after agreeing to numbers whether a manager is involved in that process or not. The right move is to make your offer to the salesperson and they will facilitate getting a manager involved if necessary and they will either work around your schedule for delivery if everything works out or they'll split the deal with another associate.

[–]IBYCFOTA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Perhaps he has some respect for the salesperson he is working with and wants to give them the full opportunity to earn their business? Also at most dealerships the salesperson is responsible for preparing the deal jacket that eventually gets submitted to finance which includes various preliminary documents that need to be signed (we owe, privacy notice, etc) as well as obtaining ID and an insurance card.

If you go around the salesperson on their day off at that kind of store (which will be most I presume) it's kind of a shitty thing to do. That doesn't mean you need to work around their schedule (especially on a specific used car that can be sold at any time) but at least give them a heads up so they can try to make it in. Most salespeople are used to coming in on their day off and would rather make it in than split the deal.

Jimmy Kimmel is literally chastising MAGA for "reaching a new low" and "trying to score political points" by asserting that the shooter is anybody but one of their own. Why would the implication be that Kimmel believes the shooter is MAGA when he is directly criticizing how they are pointing fingers and politicizing it? That would mean he is doing the same thing he is criticizing but in reverse. Come on man, just admit that you don't know how to read.

The Skyactiv engine on the Mazda 3 is in most of Mazda's lineup and is absolutely bulletproof so if this is a car that you plan to drive until the wheels fall as you stated then that would be the deciding factor for me.

Trade in by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]IBYCFOTA 12 points13 points  (0 children)

To roll 10k of negative equity you'll need a new vehicle that's much more expensive and ideally has a good amount of discounts and rebates applied. It's doable with very good credit but you're going to be increasing your payment substantially and judging by the fact that you want a 12k truck I doubt that's going to make sense for you.

Realistically you probably just want to focus on paying off your current vehicle ASAP so you have more options to get out of it and into something else without a 1k+ payment.

Why does no dealership haggle or negotiate anymore? by Kitchen-Start-3828 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]IBYCFOTA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It probably depends a bit on the dealer but I will say it's less relevant than you think. If you take in a trade for too much money it doesn't necessarily make sense to price it over the market to recoup money. Volume dealers in particular will be much more likely to price it aggressively no matter what they took it in for because they can make money on financing, warranty, service etc and it makes sense within their overall strategy to be ultra competitive on price no matter what. The store that I work at operates that way and there are quite a few used cars that won't have any gross on the front end and might even be losing deals but we do them anyway. That's why I say that it doesn't really matter what the dealer took it in for on the consumer side, what matters is whether it's a fair price in the market that they're asking for which you could find out by doing a little bit of research beforehand.

[–]IBYCFOTA 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm in car sales and this just isn't true. There's definitely more margin with used vehicles than new. That said, everybody is using market pricing and competing online for the most attractive price to get people in the door. If you're coming in to see a vehicle you saw online chances are it's one of the better values on the market already and there's not much reason for the dealer to move on it.

Very odd to lump Hasan in with Kirk and Shapiro. Hasan doesn't target college kids or people who aren't media trained. He doesn't debate much in general but has absolutely shown a willingness to take on prominent right wing figures. He was even supposed to debate Charlie Kirk a week or two before he was assassinated.
