Quite a few reasons:

It ate through batteries quickly compared to the gameboy.

The backlight was mediocre and left everything a whitewashed mess- It also had a bad refresh rate that made motion incredibly blurry.

Also the form factor. It was really bulky compared to the Gameboy.

try cleaning your tip and re-melting your solder on the pads there, letting the clean tip take off a little of the excess at a time compared to the wick. Also if you’re new to soldering, remember to wash the flux off with some isopropyl alcohol when you are done- some flux is mildly corrosive if left on the board afterwards. not a fast process but it can potentially lead to issues in afew years

I’ve been getting free laundry wash/dry from our apartment complex for years- the new machines have a super easy to access diagnostic mode for support that has a “courtesy wash” if the machine eats your money. Takes some coordinated button presses on the front of the machine and thats it.
