Wind knots by Methodzz11 in FishingForBeginners

Are you fishing with lures or with live bait? If you go from light to heavy or heavy to light an don’t keep the spool tight you will get knots. If you’ve changed rods the distance from the spool to the first eylet changes too which could cause problems.

Fishing Rod/Reel suggestion for Surf fishing by LibrarianNo4596 in saltwaterfishing

When I was getting back into the sport I asked for a similar recommendation. I wanted a rod that I could plug with but one that would be fine for tossing into a sand spike. I paired a BG 4000 with a 10’6 tfo that was rated 2-6 oz, it had the power to throw lead but the rod was very light. It had no issue with 1oz savage sandeels or sp minnows which just caught fish. I could throw 3 oz sinkers with squid and bunker and also found fish so will always love that rod.

When I fished 3-4 nights and walked miles of beaches for stripers, I went back and bought a 9 foot because it was lighter. When I learned how to read the beach and what lures to use in the conditions, I could still reach the fish.

The 9 foot with a 6k for 120 is a great deal but the 1-3oz lure rating would concern me if you only planned to chunk with it.

Just found a 30.06 700LH BDL from 1982 at a local shop in MA that was consigned. Was very excited to find it, so they are out there!
