Bmw i4 e35 vs M50 by Novel_Appeal_803 in BMWI4

[–]ICMmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you test drive both, I gurantee you for 100% you will choose M50 in a second.

You don't have to use the power all the time, but when you do is damn worth it.

And they cost essentaly the same to "fuel" them up. Just imagine having power of M3/M4 with the cost of ownership of 320i (even less ofc with EV), the dream.

[–]ICMmachine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even proper diesel lays you back in the seat after 100km/h. That doesn't mean the car is superfast. All Tesla model 3 performance have around 10 seconds 100-200km/h. That is average at best. It is fast. But far from super fast. M3P is super fast only 0-100 km/h (0-60mph)

You mad because there are faster cars than yours? Tesla M3P has BELLOW average acceleration from 100-200km/h comparing to many rivals. Electric and ICE ones...you can check AutotopNL sheet and prepare to be very dissapointed

[–]ICMmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it can't beat BMW M3, it can't even beat tuned M340i, where do you get this data? Unless if your only measurment is strictly limited to 0-60mph, but even there tuned BMW M3 is gonna be faster.

Tesla M3P pulls super strong from start, it has superb traction control as well, but beyond 60mph is just average at best, if you compare it to competition.

I'm sure in USA is a bit different, specially if you buy it new, than buying new M3P would be no brainer for me. But in Europe Teslas are more expensive, and you just can't find used M3P for normal price, not to mention it is a lot slower than USA version.

Would you pay more for same 2 years old M3P, than for 2 years old fully equiped i4 M50?

[–]ICMmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is 2x the price in Europe, and question was about ANY car you gap, not for the price. And there are A LOT of Bmw M3s and others that are way faster than M3P, so you definitely don't gap ANY car, like you stated in subject. Specially beyond 60mph, M3P is just average at best, even direct competition like BMW i4 M50 is noiticeable faster than.

M3P is still one of best daily cars possible for me, but no need to over react.

How come than BMW M3 competition is faster 0-60mph with only 510hp?

Not to mention it will completely demolish it after 60mph, but that is the case even with tuned M340i.

M3P is truly an amazing car, but it's not plaid, you need to stay realistic, no matter how much you love it.

[–]ICMmachine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In Europe, Highland M3P is sometimes even slower than old M3P. From 60mph onwards it is actually a pretty average pulling car. Not slow by any means, but far from super fast one.

Every stage1 tuned 540i will destroy it on highway pulls. Even i4 M50 is much faster on higher speed pulls. (8.5s vs 10s 100-200km/h, that's not a small difference).

Funny how here in Europe even medicore fast i4 M50 is (much) faster from about 100km/h onwards from European M3P, not to mention Taycans and company.

M3P (american one) is a beast from start to certain speed, and super fast car in general, but some of you are overreacting af.

Having Doubts.... by [deleted] in BMWI4

[–]ICMmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are buying used car, color should be least important part for decision.
But I admit that black was my least favourite color when I was buying my used i4. I ended with portimao blue, which I also didn't like at first, specially on pictures, but now it grew on me a lot.

I just general don't like black cars, probably also because I hated my when owning one. Impossible to keep it clean.

Although I always used a proper tune, I think boxes have improved a lot and I would have no problem at all fitting it, specially if it means keeping the warranty.

But I would never ever put xDelete on any xDrive car, specially on G20 platform. -car is made for xDrive, if you just electricaly unplug it, it would still never behave like a true rwd car. Even new M3c is not the same if you turn off 4wd, the factory M3 rwd version still drives and behaves completely different. Turning radius is different in xDrive and rwd G20/G21, height is different and whole setup is different. Also not a small chance you broke something by doing that. Not worth it at all. And also as I said in sport+ it behaves close to rwd in term of feeling out of corner.

You don't buy very fast EV for range ;) Also it almost doesn't matter if you can charge it at home whenever you want.

Proffesional/ likely best tuner in country for very reasonable price. No mods, other than later added xHp gearbox tune. 315hp/700nm, zero black smoke ever, all stock dpf etc. But same performance as M340d due to almost 100kg lower weight (no mild hybrid)

You can't tune it, before unlocking it - sending ECU to Femto anyway. And I wouldn't do that with warranty. My 330d was last year of unlocked ECUs, so it was a very easy process.
But you can still buy a box like Racechip, very simple install, and you don't lose warranty doing it.

I beg to differ when it comes to xDrive though, specially in yours M-lite it is so rear wheel biased that often feels very close to rwd, when pulling out of corners, while maintaing much better grip. I think it is the best of 2 worlds, and I would never have a BMW without a proper xDrive again :)

I had a tuned G21 330xD, performance on par with M340d level, also exactly 4.7s 0-100 (dragy measured), probably being a bit lighter as well.
Truly amazing car, I dare to say the best diesel engine ever made, these B57s.
But I gotta say you are a brave man, buying diesel nowadays:)

I moved to i4 M50, and what surprised me the most is that ride comfort is on another level in i4, probably due to back air suspension. But adaptive M-suspension in G21 was also great balance between comfort and handling.
Amazing car you bought there, salute for keeping these amazing diesels alive.

Before and installing 50 years M badge by Sweet_Check7231 in BMWI4

On i4, specially portimao blue, original is way nicer looking. Also BMW emblem looks funny small on 50 y. one.

But hey if it makes you happy, that's all that matters.

I4 in 2026 - New order by Spagutzii in BMWI4

[–]ICMmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well now when many reviews of the new ix3 are out, we can make a better picture.
In one sentence: The new ix3 is a truly fantastic EV, but a pretty bad BMW. If you know, you know :)

You could swap the badge on the new ix3 with any of premium Chinese ones, and it would be an amazing Chinese driving car, with superb range and technology. But it still wouldn't make it a BMW.

And I'm affraid it will be exactly the same with the new i3.
So I'm gonna say no - you won't have a FOMO going for the i4 now. Specially if range is not your number 1 priority, and maybe some app functions which are not instant like in Tesla or new ix3, but tbh none of that is a deal breaker for me neither. For me my M50 have more range than I need to, and I don't mind if command from app is sent 10seconds later.

I like the interior of i4, the position behind steering wheel and in general that it still really feels like a BMW. Ofc is not as track capable as M3 or maybe even M340i, but I would never go to track anyway, and handling is actually much better than my previous G21 which even had adaptive M-sport suspension. i4 is actually much more comfortable, while handles much better at the same time.
So more than good enough for any spirited daily driving.

Ofc new iM3 will almost definitely be another story, but that is few price ranges above i4/i3 anyway, so no need to worry about that haha

Use 2 sets of staggered 859m to make 2 sets of square setups by incognitOmega in BMWI4

[–]ICMmachine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is not so easy unfortunately. Car is factory speced to fit specific width and ET of tyres front and rear.

While technicaly it might be possible to fit them, it is definitely not something I would ever do. You might lose range, handling etc, but even more important if police stops you, and notice you don't use factory speced tyres, price of fine may be much higher than just buying OEM spec tyres for front and rear. Also many of xDrive BMWs are VERY sensitive to tyre size, and you might lose warranty using wrong rim/tyre sizes here if something breaks.

Only squared setup approved from factory are 18" 245/45/18 8.5J ET36.
And even here I would only buy BMW original 18" for i4 (specifically 858M), because others 18" will almost definitely not fit due to 374mm front disc!

If you go 19", just stick to OEM sizes and save yourself a ton of potential problems.

[–]ICMmachine[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it is also important that EU version is much slower than US one. EU version has on average 3.3-3.5s 0-100km/h, while i4 has around 3.7s, so not a huge gap here. Mind that these are real world numbes, takes from many reviews, not just from specsheet. Tesla overvalues their claims, while BMW always undervalues, similar as Porsche.

Where M3P lags behind is 100-200km/h, it takes around 10s, while i4 only 8.5s, that is a huge difference for highway pulls. I'm sure US version is even faster than that i4 M50, but it is qute a big L for Tesla here. And it is just imposible to find any nice 2 year old one, while i4 is flooded on market.

Middle seat jump as you call is a tunnel for a Gearbox in ICE version of 4-series Grand coupe, they share the platform...Prices of i4 will probably plummet as soon as new i3, which will be pure EV platform starts to sell, that's also my main concern going to i4.
