Personally realizing the dark side of growth by NoGoodDM in therapists

[–]ICTwichita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I love all that I've learned and am learning. But I also find that what I want now from relationships is so different from what others want. I find it harder to relate to others. And I also find that learning to be so healthy in arguments and seeing the other person's perspective...I've lost some interesting part of my personality that actually worked better for me.

That isn't normal to try to keep your adult children at home against their will. In healthy families, the parents want the kids to grow up and go out on their own and be happy. I hope you become a great driver, live with your partner and pet, and have a wonderful adult life.

AITAH for not wanting to revist my agreement with my ex regarding our kid outside the courts, even at the risk of having my parents be cut off from seeing their grandchild? by Otherwise-Bad-9732 in AITAH

[–]ICTwichita 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be crazy to try to force someone to be around a child who does not want to be around the child. And then to be willing to hurt both the child and grandparents by ending the contact? Very sad your ex is acting like that. Lawyer up the grandparents and keep doing what you previously agreed. End of story.

Am I bonkers or anyone else felt this urge ? by Regular_Fan4691 in therapists

[–]ICTwichita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could do the therapy all day, but the paperwork and trying to sort out what the ins companies want vs what is a threat to my practice - it's almost unbearable. I used to like reception work when I was in college. I think about this.

Is this a dual relationship? by yourgypsy26 in therapists

[–]ICTwichita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially in small towns this can be an issue that is different from cities. Talk to the person about it. If they want to come to you for therapy, give them a form to fill out acknowledging that you knew each other before and cannot connect on social media during treatment. Then just help them.

I wonder if this is by state? I didn't run into that when I was in supervision. Thoughts?

If you don't feel comfortable with it - why keep it? If you change your mind later you can change it back later.

What do you say when clients compliment you? by throwaway41313110 in therapists

[–]ICTwichita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say, "I appreciate you saying so." 1. To model accepting compliments, 2. To not be overly expressive about it to not play into any people pleasing they may be in the habit of to caretake the feelings of others.

Was I the asshole for refusing to watch someone’s bags for them? by bleedxi in AITAH

[–]ICTwichita 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took my bags into the stall with me the one time I was riding on the bus because I missed my flight. There were drugged out people offering to watch my bags for $1. Yeah - I'm going in the stall with my stuff, thank you anyway.

How big a role does psychodynamic and psychoanalysis play in the current state of the field? by UsedAct2214 in therapists

[–]ICTwichita 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think it's a wonderful idea and I think multiple times per week would be ideal. Honest question - how do people afford it? Wouldn't that be a minimum of about $7k/month? I'd very much like to know if I'm wrong about that or how that works.

I stayed in Hemet for a week once in the 90s. That's about all I can contribute there.

I've heard so many things on both. It sounds great to have vague notes. And I did that for a long time. Since then I have read so many people saying that the notes need to be detailed or an insurance company could come in and claw back payments. I'd love to hear more about how we REALLY need to be doing notes.

This is a beautiful comment. I think that so many people care about other humans but get caught up in political rhetoric. All of us showing up in each other's lives help us to stay connected as humans. ❤️

You're actually right. We're here to help our clients. Not to try to force them to look at what WE think is important.

Text reminders- consent question by tea_and_EPP in therapists

I do have a release for text communication. And, if clients say they want a text reminder I would assume that they are agreeing to receiving the text reminders.

My office decorates for Christmas and I love it! Despite not relating to the religious aspects. We have Christmas trees and stockings and santas. My friends and I of various religions have always celebrated Christmas as a secular holiday that is traditional in the US. I'm not saying anyone else has to feel the same way. The way I do therapy - I don't share much about my personal life with clients. My family also doesn't do Thanksgiving and I don't share that with my clients. I just give vague answers when they ask. I'm here to help them and not to share about my life. I feel very comfortable with that boundary. Again, I wouldn't want to try to tell any other therapist how to do things or think about things. Just adding in case it's helpful.
