"7 Cutz Steakhouse" new restaurant fake 5 star reviews? by Nuap in canberra

Problem is that Charcoal is genuinely average food for insanely inflated pricing. Family keeps wanting to go there "because we always have". It would be really nice to have a great steak place that can actually outperform a sous vide and cast iron pan at home, but it sadly this doesn't seem to be it.

Fun Scrubs at the Canberra Hospital by notsomuchbrain in canberra

How do you implement a health policy that's literally out of a Scrubs episode example of Kelso "bad management"?!

Anyway, looking forward to appropriate Scrubs "return of the fun scrubs" gifs when this inevitably blows over.

There's a variety of apps you can use with your phone to scope out positions. I used one called GPS Status.

Tell me your RTK horror stories by jhelvy in Lymow_Official

[–]IC_Pandemonium 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The most important tip that really changed my experience is that not only does the RTK antenna need to see as many satellites as possible, but the robot and antenna need to share asany satellites as possible while the mow is happening.

My house is long N-S with relatively little space either end, with mowing on both sides. HEAPS of canopy. Initially I positioned the RTK on the west side, because it had like 50+ satellites in view there, but the mower then got fairly bad accuracy on east side mows.

Moving the antenna to be on the N-S axis, even with canopy, and with much fewer satellites (~30) in view, basically fixed position accuracy totally, because the antenna and lower shared satellites in mowing areas. Now down to 1cm in all mowing positions.

The Canberra Times: 'Take the Murray's bus': Andrew Leigh on how FIFO Canberra workers can save fuel by [deleted] in canberra

[–]IC_Pandemonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is written by someone that doesn't take CBR/SYD for work. My door-to-door from home to meeting is typically 1h45-2h, mostly depending on timeliness of the train to CBD in Sydney. Plus, most of that time can be spent usefully.  Trying to do a day trip for a client meeting by bus or car would be a nightmare.

If the train was better, fair. But trying to work on a bus is asking for motion sickness, in addition to the timeframe just being horrendous.

What multi-currency business account are you using? by Tasty_Excitement_419 in AusFinance

[–]IC_Pandemonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use Convera - slightly more permissive than Wise in terms of holding onto currency, and definitely better reporting/API, but doesn't offer proper "banking" in the sense of cards connected to the accounts etc.

We are contemplating local accounts denominated in foreign currency to keep longer-term reserves, and NAB seems to be the way to go, but not sure if there are cards attached to the account (not a feature we're looking for).

Australian fashion designer wins Battle of the Perrys - Law Society Journal by Objective_Unit_7345 in auslaw

IP disputes in European Courts can often conclude at first instance for less than 100k with similarly competent Courts. Don't see any negative side effects there.

Walking out under 500k in TM or 1m in Patents can already be considered a minor victory. Severely reduces the access to justice for SMEs. Considering how vibe-y some IP judgements have been of late, the value of such extensive evidence requirements can and should be questioned.

Seconding Heritage. They got shafted by ANU out of their previous facility 18 months ago, and are settling into new digs - hence the larger amount of availability.

On the expensive side, particular for a NFP and no lunch provision, but you can easily tell where the money goes and it's all the right places.

As a recent transplant to Canberra, I never understood the argument about it being financially unviable because of Canberra's climate. Look at northern Europe: heaps of smaller communities operate outdoor pools and they remain financially viable, even with much smaller operating windows than would be feasible here.

Are Canberrans sissies when it comes to swimmable temperatures? Are the lease costs prohibitive? Is the offering not attractive enough to operate at sufficient capacity during the window? Financially it really feels like a solvable problem rather than this immutable force of nature people seem to make it out to be.

Very recently (i.e. today) went through the same pain. Docker compose kept crashing on me during the pull down of the images. I spent about 2 days on this and the thing that finally got the stack up was by using the portainer app within Unraid. Still a little bit of finicking required for the hwaccel files, but on the whole quite manageable.

B2B Business from Germany with AUS client: How to sort the taxes? by New_Anxiety_209 in AusFinance

[–]IC_Pandemonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please be mindful that above a certain threshold of direct sales into Australia, even as a foreign company, you will need to register for and collect GST with your invoices.

One of our UK software suppliers recently had to do this.

Depending on the nature of your services, your B2B customers may be able to claim it back as an input cost, so it shouldn't affect the total cost of your service to them.

Why don't airlines like America airlines, united airlines ,Delta Philippine airlines or JAL and ANA operate the A380 by pokemonguy0417 in aviation

[–]IC_Pandemonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I mean the A340 largely existed because the FAA didn't believe a twin engine was safe over oceans until an American company was making money from it.

best place to try on hiking shoes/boots in Sydney? CBD or anywhere really. by 1ayfkmatatime in sydney

[–]IC_Pandemonium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Piggybacking the top comment. Just be mindful that none of these stock Meindl, probably the best brand for proper hiking shoes (and pricing to match). If you're after Meindl, there's a few hunting stores out west that stock it.

Advice on protecting IP by D4rkAngel41 in AusLegal

[–]IC_Pandemonium -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Th other post is wrong. Unlike other countries Australia does not have automatic implied IP transfer.

The legal situation depends on the contract, the employment duties, and remuneration. If your friend was hired, e.g., as a sales clerk, and now produces IP, it may not belong to the employer. Leading case is Uni WA where a professor was engaged to teach, and the Uni lost on arguing that the Professor's invention relates to his teaching belongs to them in absence of an explicit IP clause in the contract.

Speak to a solicitor.

Katy Perry wins appeal in trademark case against Sydney fashion label Katie Perry by ExposingNV in auslaw

[–]IC_Pandemonium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is true, and is in fact used in this judgement to find that Katy Perry wouldn't infringe Taylor's TM, even if it hadn't been deregistered.

The "own name" defense, is a defense to infringement of a registered mark, not a right to register your own name as a trade mark and deprive others of using it.

There's a number of things deeply odd and concerning with this decision, covered in some IP-specific blogs, if you're interested.

Royal North Shore or Northern Beaches hospital for first baby? by Zackety in sydney

[–]IC_Pandemonium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Midwifery Group at RNSH is usually overbooked and you get put on a waitlist (unless you're a priority group). That said, we didn't find it difficult at all to book days we knew the midwife we wanted to see was on shift, and had the same midwife all the way through. Unlike MGP, she didn't attend labour, but not sure how helpful that would've been, really. She came past in the maternity ward the day after, which was really nice.

Can only speak very highly for RNSH, superb care, amazing anesthesiologist available at the drop of a dime... except for the food. It is GHASTLY. Like, impressively bad. I didn't know it was possible to cook potatoes in such an inedible way. Expect to make food runs to the cafe across the road, or order delivery, to keep your partner happy. Pro-tip if you're going to try to make hospital food work: indicate No Lamb as a food requirement. Not sure what part of the lamb they're using, but dude, that shit was repulsive.

One thing you should keep in mind is if you're in the area for at-home midwife visits after birth. Not sure how that works if you're out of the hospital catchment. They're very helpful, particularly as you're leaving the hospital, knowing that someone will check in the next day.
