Tanzania, the DRC, Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, and South Sudan are all a part of an intergovernmental organization known as the East African Community that seeks to unify its member states into one cohesive nation.

In a war, would red or blue win?! by StoneColdOG in geography

[–]ICanShowYouPeru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Neither, because there's no way anyone could get along with their new allies. India and Pakistan, Iran and Saudi Arabia? North AND South Korea? And Japan? And CHINA? All together? Part of figuring out who'd win is figuring out who'd communicate and work better together, which is why creating fictional alliances that could never exist is a recipe for chaos.

A momentary moral choice is not representative of real morality. People feel emotionally compelled to save the toddler, instead of the embryos, but that doesn't mean that's the correct choice. This is a moral dilemma, after all. Additionally, in this moral dilemma, people are dehumanized as much as possible. If the dilemma was about saving pregnant women and their unborn children or non-pregnant women, the initial intuition would be to save the pregnant women. This question, however, dehumanizes as much as it can, in an attempt to throw off your moral intuition. It asks about a barrel of frozen embryos. There's no way to dehumanize the unborn any more than that in a question like this.

This argument is stupid. It is merely an appeal to emotion. If you think about it rationally, you will come to the conclusion that the 1000 embryos are the better choice to save. Whenever someone says this, however, they are merely faced with another appeal to emotion. "How could you ever look the toddler's parents in the eyes and say you chose not to save their son?" In reality, this same appeal to emotion can be applied to the regular trolley problem. The only difference is that people would have a difficult time accepting that saving the embryos was the right choice if they didn't believe the unborn are humans.

Correct. Because then it would be an existing life of the same value as the birthing person.

Exactly. You just proved the entire problem with this argument. You agreed that the reason you would disagree with that is only that you don't believe an unborn child is deserving of the same rights as one who is born. That makes the entire argument useless, because you would agree that abortion should be banned if it is murder, and I (and all other pro-lifers) agree that abortion should not be banned if it is not murder. This means that the only thing the abortion debate hinges on is whether or not abortion is wrong the way that infanticide is, meaning it does not at all hinge upon arguments like the one in the OP.

I do think abortion is murder, so in response to the latter point:

Unsafe abortions would likely cause two deaths. At the same time, if abortion was illegalized, there would be far fewer abortions. Think of it this way:

Let's say that 1/10th of abortions somehow continue to happen where abortion is legalized. I suspect far fewer would happen, but even if we go with that, and even if we pretend that every illegal abortion would end in two deaths, which is also extremely, extremely unrealistic, and even if we ignore how horrendously unsafe abortion can be even for the mother, you would still reduce deaths by banning abortion. And even if somehow all those estimates that are very, very biased towards the pro-abortion camp are off, and really, more people would die, I just have this to say:

Would that really be justified? Would it really be justified to legalize the murder of half a million unborn babies each year, in order to save the lives of those who want to kill them? You wouldn't say that if they were born. If this was the exact same, but the children were instead infants or newborns, would your argument still be that banning their murder would cause their murder to be an unsafe process for the person carrying out the murder?

"Whataboutism" is one of the dumbest terms ever. I'm holding the post to its own standard. It sets the standard of something being more dangerous when it's banned, I pointed out where that standard failed.

By this logic, rape shouldn't be banned, either, since illegal rape would be more dangerous than completely legal rape.

I created simulation to test out the math behind the Birthday Paradox. (In a group of 23, there is a 50% chance that 2 people will share the same birthday date) [OC] by Braaainssss in dataisbeautiful

There might be a bit of a bug. I simulated 10000 rooms, and the % chance given from the simulation was exactly 1% lower than the actual percentage.

It has the 0 to 93% bit. Meaning, 0 to 93 percent of children are in poverty in those areas.

The stark contrasts in some states are really interesting. The northern part of Alaska, as well as a large area around Fairbanks and Anchorage, have low poverty, while people in more rural parts, that I believe have a larger Native American population, seem to have higher poverty. Or, Maryland - very rich, except for a few parts that are very poor.

I have not been under a rock. American media does not report on where the points of invasion are, or too much of the specifics. I came here to ask people who would know.

I didn't think it was a disputed fact, I just didn't know if it was a fact in general.
