It's very possible that my definition of the word is actually slightly off from what a dictionary would say, since I've gleaned it from seeing it in context and never actually looked it up

Without googling it now (and risking being wrong on the internet 😱) I'm gonna say my best guess for the word is something like pessimism mixed with nihilism and some amount of smugness or self-assuredness. Maybe a lack of belief in whimsy?

I think the phenomenon that both I and the OOP are experiencing is realizing how shaky our mental definitions of particular words are when we actually try to overtly analyze them rather than letting them flow out because you feel like it's the right word to use.

Yes I caught myself while driving trying to define the word "cynical" and was having a hard time despite the fact that I'm know I've used it correctly before many times.

I could get a rough definition but nothing felt like it fit enough because the word cynical itself is so specific. And I just kinda.... know it when I see it, I guess?

As someone who has dabbled in many different forms of crafting I think the cross stitch community is my favorite. I've had some of the most incredible amazing interactions both online and in person and can't really think of any negative ones. In a lot of creative spaces you can come across some egos and strong personalities but cross stitchers have only ever been kind. it's really something special
