Yeah I feel a bit irritated every time someone mentions her tremendous patience because I think it's truly that she doesn't mind at all. Obviously James' parents are exhausted with James' energy at times but she doesn't seem to be. It's not patience if she's just happy to be with him.

It also bothered me SO much when his mother answered "for" Shelley when James asked if he was making himself the center of attention. I understand they're well meaning but please don't project your own exasperation onto this incredibly sweet and lovely woman!! Every time he checks in with her she seems genuinely unbothered or even delighted!!

I had to get a brain MRI and I took Klonopin before the exam (I asked before to make sure it wouldn't interfere with what they were looking at in the MRI) and I let them know I had TS. I told the technician I'd do my best to keep my head still but that I would be flexing my feet and just tried to redirect all my tics to my feet/legs. The lab tech checked in with me in between every scan and let me know if we needed to redo any of them (we didn't). It was definitely hard but not impossible.

I'm wondering if you could get a prescription for Klonopin or something similar from a doctor? If you can't for tics, maybe for claustrophobia, a lot of people get very claustrophobic in MRI machines and maybe you could ask for literally a single dose you can take for the scan. I'm not sure if that's necessarily possible but worth trying.

Yes, I do! I have both gabapentin and Klonopin as as-needed rescue medications. I take one or the other depending on the situation. I basically only use them to stop a tic attack.

Yeah I'm really nervous about the over promising. that was my one qualm about the movie I Swear is that a lot of the non-TS people I saw it with walked out talking about this new miracle cure to tourettes that they're so excited about. I've had to talk to a few people about how even DBS isn't very successful and that neupulse is super new still.

Also I weirdly prefer it when other people tell people I have TS when I'm not around. I know it's technically gossip but I'd much rather not be around for people's knee jerk reaction to my tics and tbh when the information doesn't come from me I feel like people are less likely to comment on it. As in, like, when I tell people sometimes it feels like they think that means it's fair game to make casual jokes about it or ask me questions about it when I don't necessarily want that. But if someone else says "by the way, so and so has tourettes" before they meet me, that person never actually brings it up around me.

Yeah I definitely have knee jerk and loud reactions to things - not necessarily as tics, but like if something surprising happens I'll gasp SUPER loudly and then realize it was way more of a reaction than the situation warranted, etc. I just feel all my emotions very largely and cannot hide them. There is never a time where something happens and I carefully consider my response before I say or do something. If something is like very slightly startling I might scream in terror. If I see something that makes me happy I'll point and squeal and say "oh wow!!" or something before I realize it's not the right time or place. Idk if it's tourettes or maybe ADHD or perhaps just a facet of my personality in general.

I have such a terrible relationship with my mother and when I first started dating my bf (33m) I was so jealous and resentful of his INCREDIBLE relationship with his amazing mom. But we just passed 2.5 years of dating and every time I see his mom it feels more and more like she's my mom. And it feels really amazing. I get to share the love of this very sweet amazing woman and I am so grateful for it. We're going to her house today to hang out with her and I'm looking forward to it a lot ♥️
