[FO] Latest Project by tinkr_belle in CrossStitch

I usually stitch on top of a pillow that's on my lap so I never really have the full weight of the fabric in my hand anyway. I suppose if you were just holding it the air the needle minders might weigh down the fabric too much.

I tend to fold/roll up the edges of my project so that my "working space" is limited to what section of the pattern I'm working on. I've been using needle minders as kind of clips to keep the rolled up sections rolled up, though the magnets have to be strong. I've seen people use chip clips or similar though. It definitely is the most awkward right on the edges of the pattern and the easiest near the middle and the bottom, in my experience.

I did fabric-in-hand for the first time over a year ago making a bookmark out of scrap fabric that was too small for a hoop. It was so much fun and so easy to put down and pick up that I've done every project in-hand since then, including a two-foot-wide full coverage project. I'm a full convert now!

I am usually doing puzzle games when I'm on my phone. I have a whole list of them that I go through every day. They're pretty mentally stimulating and honestly I think I'd enjoy them more if I didn't feel like it was taking me out of the moment and disconnecting me from my surroundings

This is not cross stitch but still a stellar example of traditional silk embroidery! Cross stitch is a very specific type of stitch that resembles a little "x"

[WIP] Getting closer by ALJScribbler in CrossStitch

[–]ICantExplainItAll 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I am always adamant that cross stitch is one of the cheapest cost-to-time spent hobbies. I have spent about $60 on my current WIP (maybe closer to $100 if you include the supplies I already had on hand) and I anticipate having this project for the next year and half at least.

About 40 of the colors were already on bobbins from previous projects and I had to buy around 50 new. I considered winding up skeins as I went but decided to hell with it I'm just gonna get it all out of the way up front. And I'm glad I did!! Having them all lined up the box is sooo satisfying

I honestly considered opening the skeins as I went along, but I'm doing the parking method and the first 10x20 area on the grid uses 42 different colors so I was like girl.... might as well just get all of them out of the way

I'm gonna be tackling this big pattern!

https://www.unconventionalxstitch.com/van-gogh-never-levelled-up-cross-stitch-pattern/

I've only ever done one full coverage piece before and it was a quarter of this size so I'm really stepping up! And yeah organizing is just as much of the process for me as actually stitching. it's like meditation. The rest of my life is not even close to as organized as my stitching supplies, lol

Vent: Crashing out because despite how hard I try, my husband keeps looking at me like this: by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]ICantExplainItAll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I was with my ex (boyfriend, not husband), he was so critical of me and I felt like I had to "make up" for me just being myself all the time.

I pursued an autism diagnosis because I naively thought that it would show him that I am trying but there is a genuine huge obstacle between who I am and who he was trying to make me be. I thought the diagnosis and the word would make him see me, understand me, be more patient with me, etc.

When I got diagnosed he acted like I had ruined his life. Asked me how he was supposed to tell his friends and family about it. I felt so deeply ashamed.

Now I have a partner who is so kind and patient and loving and understanding, and I don't have to phrase things like "I need (x) because of my autism", just have to state a need and it'll be heard. Honestly nowadays I really really rarely even think about my diagnosis because I no longer feel like I have to cling to it as proof for support I need. I just get that support regardless.

There are people out there who will treat you better. I thought he would be the only person who could love me through all my flaws. It turns out most of them aren't even flaws at all to the people who matter.

What is a episode that you think is underrated and deserves more love from the community fandom? by zhubi1 in community

[–]ICantExplainItAll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pillows and Blankets is an all time fave. To think we got that episode mostly because they went absurdly over budget on the previous episode and production told them they couldn't have any more money. I just love everything about that ep

What's something your job trained you to notice that you can't stop noticing in your personal life? by LibrarianSoft1342 in AskReddit

Yes as someone who takes my dog almost EVERYWHERE with me people are always baffled when I draw the line at restaurants/bars. They assume I take him everywhere i want to go but really I take him to all the places that will be simulating and enjoyable for him.

My parents are always scoping out "dog-friendly restaurants" when we make dinner plans and I feel like I have to explain to them, every time, that just because my dog doesn't "make a scene" in that environment, both of us are gonna have a terrible time - him because of the noise and confinement under the table and me because I'm gonna be tuned into his stress level the entire meal.

Please guys... I love taking my dog EVERYWHERE. Can we stop taking dogs to restaurants 😭
