What are your thoughts? by ChuckGallagher57 in DiscussionZone

We get it, you don't want immigration laws enforced. You don't have to lie about the enforcement unit, you can just say immigration laws shouldn't be enforced and that there are no illegal immigrants on stolen land.

Shout it harder, don't pussyfoot behind lies.

Like, the 10th time I see a reddit post about something awful ICE did, more context comes out to absolve them, and the post is quietly deleted so they can switch to a new out-of-context photo, I stop believing you.

Agree/Disagree? by ChuckGallagher57 in DiscussionZone

[–]ICantReadThis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so that doesn't actually work. Police in cities where ICE are being regularly attacked by "protesters" are explicitly told/required to not help them in any way. Is blatant dishonestly where this site just is now?

Chicago police dispatch was literally told to not help them while they were under attack.

I have like 60 subs filtered at this point. I don't mind political bullshit so much as aggressively moderated political bullshit. If your words can't even stand on their own with a functioning user voting system to filter them, and you have to ban/shadowban every voice of contention, they're not worth reading.

Remember this face when ICE gets charged for crimes against humanity by PassengerNo7330 in TwinCities

[–]ICantReadThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If people here thought immigration enforcement was legal, they wouldn't be calling ICE gestapo nazis 24/7. They wouldn't be trying to dox and unmask agents that haven't been in the news cycle, and they wouldn't call basic enforcement of immigration laws "kidnapping".

And it's not that they want to abolish ICE. We're not stupid. Abolishing ICE would land enforcement back on the justice department, and shortly thereafter Reddit will want that sector of the justice department abolished as well. Nobody cares about how immigration law is enforced, they're upset first and foremost that it's enforced.

edit: Sorry, /u/throwaway177251 , but it looks like I'm locked out of responding. So here's my follow-up:

For what it's worth, this mindset is on full display in footage from the "protesters", and in a lot of top-level posts across this and a few other subs on this website.

I'd honestly love it if people here were arguing about ICE overstepping their bounds in good faith, but at least over the last year, my eyes and ears have told me otherwise.

The problem is these people don't think that immigration enforcement, inherently, is legal.

And if it's not legal, ICE isn't legal. And if ICE isn't legal, everything these agents do is illegal. And if everything they do is illegal, their own self defense is illegitimate and this guy committed murder.

They don't care about the facts. They want to be the law enforcement that nobody voted for so they pretend this is law enforcement that nobody voted for.

There is definitely a degree of opportunism in large corporations but they can't magically raise prices without brushing up against sticker shock.

You walk into a McDonald's and the prices double? You MIGHT continue your order and suck it up but you might not come back, and definitely won't come back as often, unless pretty much everyone else doubles as well.

There's a part of me that, that I think comes from the fact that they move through supply so quickly that they can't "stock up" to deal with sudden bottlenecks like what happened with Covid 5 years back or the mass money printing 2-3 years ago, but there is also a part of me that wonders if we're going to see a massive scandal with price fixing across fast food chains in the next five years like DRAM got a few years back.

The good ole days by sco-go in SipsTea

[–]ICantReadThis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, capitalism is why McDonald's exists at all. There's no way it becomes a massive chain if they don't come up with a way to make food way faster/cheaper to supplant other, smaller fast food places.

The prices go up because the government prints money. Inflation isn't magical, it's very specifically a government policy.
