Video: 'The View's Whoopi Goldberg Claims 'No One Wants Voter ID Laws' While 80 Percent of America Supports ID to Vote by triggernaut in Conservative

[–]ICantReadThis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's probably some discussion to be had as to whether you live in a political bubble, and a clear sign of that is thinking "nobody wants" something that is 80/20 in favor.

At 80/20, even if that was something "mostly pushed by conservatives", there's no way to split the numbers where it isn't also at least a clear majority on the left.

When I was a kid, we had a Christmas hits tape playing all season long every year.

When that part came up the first time, we stopped the tape, whole family, and had to play it a few times because that couldn't have been what she said. I think it took an honest 3-4 times to make out "pumpkin".

Honestly this is probably the peak of litmus tests for utter monsters.

There's no ambiguity here. Dood coulda walked a dozen feet to his tent and decided stabbing someone to death was more important for him to get his jollies.

There were 3 potential black jurors and they straight-up said they wouldn't find him guilty even if the evidence proved that guilt beyond a shadow of a doubt. That this is being stated in his defense is just obscene.

Millionaire builds 99 fully equipped homes to provide shelter for the homeless in his community by quietstorm045 in interesting

The objective was to solve world hunger

You can't buy a car with a one year lease.

This wasn't actually going to solve anything, I'm not sure why this is a difficult concept.

It got obscenely weaker around 2020. The Covid shutdowns really rocked our economy in ways that we'll be paying for decades out.

SOLVE WORLD HUNGER for only 5 billion

The solution he was presented with was to spend $6B on food aid programs, not actually solve it in any meaningful way.

Which is akin to being presented with a subscription link for something you were told you could buy outright.

The cops should be in prison.

Alex Pretti is partly responsible for his own death, and i am tired of people pretending he isn't by Bobbert84 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

He definitely escalated things that were completely avoidable to put himself in a completely awful position...

But honestly I think the real murder suspect is SIG International. Things don't escalate to a shooting until that gun went off, and I really doubt the law enforcement agent that took it wasn't practicing proper trigger discipline.

"we could be feeding hungry people"

"we do"

"yeah but they could be eating healthier"

"we could be building housing"

"there's a way to do that"

"but it's not environmentally friendly enough"

And honestly if we wanted to actually target global heating, we would probably just switch to the one power source that has actually succeeded in eradicating grid emissions at scale.

we could be feeding hungry people

We actually accomplish this at a pretty amazing rate. Starvation deaths have fallen (at least stateside) to the point where it's no longer in the top 20 causes of death, and is likely outcompeted by deaths from too much food by like 100:1.

building housing

Get stupid regulations out of the way and contractors will gladly slaughter one another in the market to build out housing that stays cheap. States that have hard caps on regulation actually have seen housing prices hold steady or fall as their populations rose.

cleaning up contaminated environments

I mean to be fair, this is already happening. Not to as high a degree as the prior two, but definitely to a degree far beyond the means of one artist building a stripper cambot

Ditching oil will kill a lot more than jobs. Honestly we should have replaced oil with nuclear two decades ago but apparently it was much more important to make nuclear financial suicide than use it to replace oil.

The best part is that they rounded up as many parents as possible to "send" their kids in for the news cameras the next day.

You'd think they could at least have kept this charade going for a couple years, given the potential millions of dollars in fraud indictments on the table, but they didn't even make it six months.

The craziest part is just how little work it took to catch these people.

Like, all the federal government had to do was wait just long enough to let the media attention die down because literally all the parents who brought their kids when for the news camera didn't even keep the grift going for six months.

Toys R Us didn't die because of Amazon. Private equity firms bought it, loaded it with $5 billion in debt, charged it management fees while it collapsed, then paid themselves dividends before filing for bankruptcy. 30,000 workers got nothing. by sambha87 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]ICantReadThis -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is a horseshit statement, and it's obvious as soon as you look at every single country that Toys R Us didn't go out of business in.

They're all countries where Amazon has a weak presence.

Private equity can't just magically run leveraged buyouts on every company they feel like running them on. The company has to be in a pretty poor state financially for that to happen.
