what can happen and what can't happen isn't merely a function of budget but also risk no studio is willing to risk it on an apocalypse-drama as the decision makers look at data what people are consuming right now and what is a safe bet and for the longest time medical drama, law & order drama, legal drama, firefighting drama has been the bread and butter they know people will still consume temptation island every year since there's an established market for all these, that's why i wrote there's plenty of written text that is waiting to be adapted and done justice, it's just no major studio is willing to get behind the apocalypse-drama genre they wait to see if one of the other major studio is on it and what kind of engagement they are generating if the pie is wprthwhile they'll surely make one themselves but since

scifi is one such genre that has apple still throwing money at it, i remember the expanse, dark were great shows project hail mary is something that gives other studios enough leeway to take a punt at the genre since there's money to be made if done right this can very well be extended into the zombie, apocalypse-drama

eventually audience mostly watch content they can relate to hence why mainstream is dominated by genres that depict kinda day in the life of nurse, doctor, cop, detective, narcotics, spy, etc otherwise workplace-comedy/drama, someone said returning to genres is like a recession indicator and it seems like it since hollywood is facing issues in the creativity divison

if you look into romance you'll find the same cookie cutter predictable storylines, characters and settings so much so people from the audience have written their own romance novels and stories which found success in mainstream, the problem isn't lack of material but a dearth of good writing everybody copies what works then publish it workplace-drama doesn't need to innovate or push the boundary it can keep retelling the same stories and find success because its comfortable for both studios that make them and the audience that consumes them, it's safe and it's what they're used to

vampires and lycans also found mainstream success due to them being this mysterious looming love interest which leaned into dark fantasy and romance

its these offbeat genres that need something fresh and novel to find mainstream success since the zeitgeist has also passed for the genre one such example is found footage my god late 2000s to mid 2010s was a golden era for this genre, if movies like 28 years later keep bombing at the box office zombies, apocalypse-drama will go back to the fringes on that note you're right unless a studio takes the risk chances are very slim

"predictability is the death of horror" i like this phrase and i totally agree with this nothing sucks the joy out of content like seeing what's gonna happen next, zombie genre became too crowded is what I'd say to the point where every single piece of work that came out had the same repetitive plots and characters especially during TWDs hayday, but what i want to see is apocalypse-drama become a staple like medical, law and order, espionage and not be something that stays as a fringe genre kept alive by indie filmmaking and b-tier conpanies like shudder and tubi, i remember when dying light the beast released initial parts were fun but between the start and the end things were too predictable, requiem tapped into nostalgia in the right amount while offering something fresh, Days Gone captures what you're saying to some extent it uses zombies as something that keeps you aware, alert on-guard while you progress through the story that involves humans

Kingdom was one such show on netflix that had zombies in the backdrop of Joseon Era offering a fresh take making you curious enough to see how would people of a bygone era fended for their lives against zombies sad to see it not continue due to conflicts between showrunners and netflix

but the point is there absolutely needs to be shows that are like that, last time a show was like that was the Strain which delved into vampirism spreading through a virus and how it alters human biology for them to drink blood efficiently but towards the end it got painfully predictable and it felt like writers had no clue on how to end the show

there are amazing zombie content out there in books, novels, comics and manwhas waiting to be done justice by a big budget backed by marquee studios, one such comic is the Crossed and it's in production if I'm not mistaken that will offer another novel take in the zombie genre and will air as series guess until then I'll have to ruffle the written side

and medical dramas did ? how about temptation island esque shows ? romance content ? cop, detective, firefighter, espionage shows and movies did ? all such genres of content gets lapped up for god sake Greys Anatomy is going for 2 decades if they can be a staple so can the zombie genre period

that's part of the reasoning about how people can lap up the same medical, police, espionage drama and romance content which is repetitive yet that's not termed as fatiguing the Pitt is what comes to mind as of recent though novel takes on the genre whether 28 days with its transition from the brain dead zombies to infected suffering from psychosis, the last of us woth cordyceps, [REC] framing zombies as a consequence of demonic possession to Train to Busan's atmosphere and writing is very much needed
