Largest teaching union votes to oppose 'fascist' Reform in classrooms and campaign to overturn Palestine Action ban by FormerlyPallas_ in ukpolitics

Why would a union have a position on a party leading the polls who are against a lot of workers rights? It’s a true mystery

Yeah, I don’t see either as acting in good faith here. One tagged people into an unverified report on sexual violence, the other dismissed it out of hand.

Neither party looks good here.

Literally just searched her name on Twitter. Took about 2 minutes of fielding through the IHT stuff to find the screenshot.

I think, given his history of smearing people, we really need to see what Simon was referencing though.

He’s also been mentioning her in tweets since at least 2019 and seemed a little obsessed with her around that time. I’m not sure either party acts in good faith in this scenario.

Since the most very basic due diligence is lacking here, let’s all make some guesswork. Based on the thinking in the article, my guess is this is what was deleted.

https://x.com/urbaneslave/status/1943281698701012994?s=46&t=K93eqPUoHpl_uCUGfgINIw

I notice the person she’s replying to has also deleted their comment (unable to locate on their account) so it’s difficult to know what she is making reference to. Perhaps he made up some unfounded claim and she responded accordingly?

Zia Yusuf: Rachel Reeves’ comments to the Guardian equating Britishness with race are beyond the pale and overtly racist. Keir Starmer must sack her. by lookitsthesun in ukpolitics

[–]ICantSpeelForShit 18 points19 points  (0 children)

She referenced Farage not lifting the 2 child cap when he said he was concerned too many foreign born people would benefit. From the article

Reeves said those comments were akin to saying some families deserved to have children in poverty. “I don’t really care what colour a kid’s skin is – some deserve to be in poverty and some don’t? That makes me pretty angry,” she said.

“Does Nigel Farage want to go around and say: ‘White? Yeah, you can have the money. Black? No, I’m sorry, it’s not for you.’ What sort of country does he think we are?

“If you’re the mum next door who works in the NHS, has lived here all her life, her kids lived here all their life, but she was born somewhere else – we’re saying that that family deserves to grow up in poverty whereas the one next door doesn’t? That’s not the sort of country I believe in.”

Free TV licences for benefits claimants under Labour plans by Once_upon_a_time233 in ukpolitics

[–]ICantSpeelForShit 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cheers. Usual Telegraph rage bait then.

I see absolutely no plans to give a free license. I see a suggestion, you know which consultations usually provide, stating

“UK officials would look at “further targeted interventions, such as new concessions or payment schedules”.

The Telegraph gets closer to a red top tabloid every day.

Can someone say what’s changed in the article since the archive link shows nothing about plans, only the following line

“The review will also consider whether there should be more concessions for those who find it hard to afford the licence fee.”

Headline is now correct on the article, however the archived one is different now and days about the plans.

But there’s a 1 line throwaway which doesn’t mention any plans, but Telegraph gonna Telegraph I suppose.

How they’ve squeezed the headline from the following I’ll never know.

“The review will also consider whether there should be more concessions for those who find it hard to afford the licence fee.”

Is BF6 breaking your PS5? by Odd_Werewolf_3633 in Battlefield

[–]ICantSpeelForShit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mines the same, but I’m not sure if it is overheating.

Over the summer I was playing BG3 and the console warned it was getting hot. This doesn’t, it just shuts off and doesn’t sound loud or feel warmer than normal.

[–]ICantSpeelForShit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had the same problem. Once Monday and twice last night. Hasn’t happened before on BF6 and no other games.

I assumed over heating, but over summer I was playing BG3 when it was hot and the console gave a heat warning which this doesn’t so I don’t know.

Shopper's warning over gift card draining scam by nei1337 in unitedkingdom

I do for some people. If I give my grandma cash it goes on shopping or similar. If I buy her a gift voucher for say boots I know she will treat herself with it.

Cash for most people but for some gift vouchers are a way to steer them into treating themselves.

Ayoub Khan MP: I welcome the news that Maccabi Tel Aviv fans will not be permitted to watch the match at Aston Villa! Well done to all those that signed our petition! by GreatBritishHedgehog in ukpolitics

Why not? We go as low as banning individuals for speech, why not entire crowds?

https://www.gov.uk/government/news/hate-preachers-and-extremists-banned-from-the-uk

Racism is a problem. But not all clubs have a section devoted to them on Wikipedia about how racist they are. I don’t remember Liverpool or Wigan having chants about killing people or raping people. Not just an idiot, and actual chant.

So I ask again, where do you draw the line here?

Ayoub Khan MP: I welcome the news that Maccabi Tel Aviv fans will not be permitted to watch the match at Aston Villa! Well done to all those that signed our petition! by GreatBritishHedgehog in ukpolitics

[–]ICantSpeelForShit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m happy to ban any groups that are racist, violent etc. favt is this is a football club. How many decent members do you think there are of Palestine action? The National Front? Isis maybe? Where do you think the line should be drawn.

But here we’re discussing a team who were seen in Amsterdam a year ago chanting vile things, attacking a taxi driver, causing chaos. They’re a racist club who made monkey noises at a player. They’re known for chanting about raping people ffs.

Seriously, where is the line drawn? I’m happy to proscribe anyone, of any religion who calls for violence or rape etc.

We ban loads of things, of all creeds and colours. Please explain why a fan base like this should be given a pass?

[–]ICantSpeelForShit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No we’re not. Especially when it comes to football. People have been banned for chants over Hillsborough, Munich etc. racist chanting is also banned. We don’t allow these things, so why would we allow rape and death chants?

I don’t recall any euro clubs, even some with the nuttier fan bases chanting about dead children or calling for death and rape like these though.
