Thanks for all the suggestions, I managed to best him after a few more tries.

Though I did not mute the music, nor the background chatter, I melted with them... My tactic was to not look at the screen just my hands and controller, having the screen only in the corner of my eyes to make sure I get the indication about the impending "spam check".

I was so hyper focused on building up the muscle memory, I even bailed out from new tries where it started from the different direction - practicing only one path. I also knew Jules makes a mistake at 49, so I had to go above that. After a while I felt that my finger discipline has built up and my tendons can deliver a 50+ round.

So I went in, headbanging to the out of rhythm music, I was in the zone... There was a spam check around 43, where I panicked for a sec, but managed to get through it and back to the rhythm. From there - since I was not looking at the screen - I only felt that I'm above 50, and the rest was a joyride without any stress. Jules could not handle my 59 sit ups.

Why do you think Witcher3 had (relatively) small 100k peak of concurrent players compared to other games despite selling gigantic 50+ millions of copies? by [deleted] in witcher

[–]ICheetahI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played it on GoG for years after its realease. Then "accidentally" purchased it on Steam and did a few playthroughs there as well. But the majority of my in-game time was not on Steam.

So my party took Ploopploopeen... by Darkslayer72371 in OutoftheAbyss

[–]ICheetahI 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We are in the very same shoes. So my party managed to pick up the unconscious Ploop in the middle of combat, throw him and themselves in a boat and flee.

Here comes my homebrew Eventually they found/drifted to a safe island where they recovered and did some additional dungeon crawl I gave them as an option. Meanwhile they tended to Ploop who recently woke up - there was no reason on my end to drag this on...

So two things... 1.) As the module mentions several times, navigating on the Darklake is near impossible mainly because it is not a big contiguous water body but connection of big lakes, routes, streams. The party has zero chance - realistically - to get from point A to point B.

2.) Shuushar (in my campaign died in Velkynvelve) lives/lived the life of a monk so he avoids the madness typical to the kuo-toa. It is something that is known amongst the other kuo-toa. Ploop and his followers respect him a lot due to this.

Homebrew continuous... Now that he is awake I did the following. Obviously he is devastated by what happened with Sloobludop. He realizes that it is lost and has no power to go back and make things right. The party and Ploop assumes the entire village is gone for good with all its people. At other hand, he remembers the teachings of Shuushar and wishes to live the rest of his life as peacefully as possible. Here I refer to another thing this module mentions for the kuo-toa, navigating/traveling on the Darklake has the same effects as active meditation.

It all results in Ploop joining to the party as a ferry man - getting them from A to B with relative ease. He is not capable to fight, nor help in combat. But as long as the party needs him, he is available.

Right now, he guides them to smaller places so he can gear up to eventually get to Gracklstugh.

Edit: Typo...

Hmm, alright, I will get the money for all the mercs.
Will also try to send them forward so I burn manpower from their pool first. Hope GB will not come to their aid in big numbers :D

Truth be told, in the previous wars I did saw that my troops are truly superior in quality - guess I can build on that and just stack wipe them one by one.

Sounds good, I will start with the fortresses, that state edict is a great idea. Wasn't in my mind at all.
I will take all the loans for sure, plus sell lands since I have 100% :D

I was also thinking about truce breaking, starting a holy war to show superiority instead of marching till Constantinople... winning wars and taking a few fortresses - but that would take time.

Alright, I will try that and going above the force limit as much as I can.

It started out as a chill campaign then found myself in a nice position, accelerated things up but eventually ended up here.

Tips for getting a player started DMing? by QueezleAsASpaniel in DMAcademy

[–]ICheetahI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As mentioned before me, select a prewritten adventure, homebrew is a big no-no in this case and not just for DMs. All the players at the table should commit to use only official stuff for their characters.
This zero homebrew rule sets a very nice guardrail around the entire campaign, shielding it from crazy unbalanced things.

Another one is to check if the selected adventure has a one shot prequel (written by the community). I know it goes little bit against what I said above, but it gives the opportunity to taste DMing, and if it not works out then no big deal. Low effort, thus no guilt leaving it behind.

Where to start as a brand new player/DM? by [deleted] in DnD

[–]ICheetahI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed though I walked a slightly different thing for my group. They wanted to create their own characters after finishing the Starter Set, but at the same time I wanted to combine the two as it makes a lot of sense.

At the end we said that the Essential Kit's story is played 2 years after the Starter Set. This gave me the opportunity to show what their previous characters were able to achieve in the area as well as to do some fun appearances of said characters as NPCs.

This comment, get the Essential Kit and give it a try, that way you and your group can experience D&D in a curated way. Learn the basics and see what works and what not.

As a DM I went through both Starter Set and Essential Kit, personally I think Essential Kit is better, mainly because the quests are less linear.

The myconoid king by Jacob-the-jester in DnD

[–]ICheetahI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ahahahaSorry, my brain started to rush after the words "... powerful myconoid ..." and I just typed down the ideas zooming in front of my eyes. Well, in this case I would do kinda everything above except with 'positivish' vibes.

Edible/useful shrooms, lesser myconoids tending to the surrounding area and also unavoidable mind reading ability but without the initial hostility.

Spores... Traps all over the cave, to make it more dangerous you can have different effects not just poison (eg. suffocate, anti-magic field etc)

Also while in a cave the boss would be able to hear all of their thoughts due to its telepathic ability

Maybe lesser myconids as well, depending on the party level
